  • @fifi36 I started to go to Church. I had a dream of God telling me to read the bible, study the bible, tell him what I learned and to take my time. I started reading the bible where it says perfect love cast out fear. The mental facility where I started to get help turned around and gave me a part time job teaching class to lift the ones that need help. Then I bought me a bus pass and started getting out in 2010. Around December God used someone to tell me that I'm doing a great job :)

  • @fifi36 2011 has been a struggle but a great year for me. I'm using everything that I learned from God's word, from group therapy taking each day at a time to get me back on my feet from everything I went through. Rome wasn't built in a day, the frist step to recovery is Jesus Christ, accept him as your savior and he'll do two things deliver you or assist you. Forgive all who did you wrong so you can take the weight off shoulder, go to group therapy to talk about it get everything out of chect.

  • @fifi36 Go to Church a bible study to assist you to learn God's word. Volunteer at a place or find a part time job to work with people. You'll heal have faith and hope. its going to take time to heal. Never take your life, fight your battles through him who gives you strength God. I hope I help you. I am almost recovered I got problems using my mind I'm on disability but soon I'll be working a fulltime job soon just like everybody else.

  • @fifi36 Here to help you so you can heal and enjoy life just like everyone else. I'm 32 but at 27 in 2007 I cried out to Jesus Christ to become my lord and savior. He came and filled me up with his Holy Spirit, I had a strong peace and a strong love but he did not deliver me from my problems. At a young age I had emotions of hate and anger. Later I developed, fear, antisocial behavior and my thoughts and emotions spun out of control. So your reading from someone that went through some things

  • It hard to find sympathy for BPD. The scream at you and fight you and won't agree or compromise. The worst kind of mental illness.

  • @jackfortunato ..the sad thing about our illness is that we DIDN'T CHOOSE IT, and we don't choose to behave the way we do, we are unable to regulate our own emotions. Believe me, it hurts us, much more than it hurts those around us. I'm sorry you are unable to feel sympathy for sufferers of BPD. I, as a BPD sufferer, can at least say I sympathise with ANYONE with ANY illness. That part of myself, I like. Maybe if you understood the disorder a little better, you would find some compassion.

  • I would like to agree with you on 1 point. it is THE WORST kind of mental illness, FOR US as we are always misunderstood and badly judged. . If I could swap heads with you for just one hour, I know that you would sympathise with us. Imagine feeling EVERY SINGLE EMOTION, ALL AT ONCE, ALL OF THE TIME.. believe me, it is not fun. I empathise with partners of bpd sufferers but feel that if they love the person they are with, they would learn about the disorder and how they could actually help.

  • @ myslelf. I feel most people, but sometimes it is a challenge. My mother and an associate have BPD (IMO) or some variant of it like Narcissistic. They are essential second class citizens since they can't interact with society and get into all kinds of legal trouble.

  • To the people who search for information on BPD this is the one video that clearly explains symptomatic and problematic symptoms of BDP. Great video

  • ok i watched this and i started crying. this is me. everything you have said is me to a T. i have an appointment tomorrow and i am going to ask her about it. I also have ADHD and chronic manic depression

  • @xsarabearx1 don't be frightened, I am diagnosed with BPD, and severe depression. With the right type of treatment and medication, we can live manageable lives. I am new to my dbt therapy, but now I have hope for my future. You must get the right diagnosis, so that you are able to get the right help. Peace to you...x

  • Im still confused as to what BPD is, i have a clearer idea watching this but im still a little confused. The name of the disorder seems to apply to me but im still confused

  • @MichelleAlways Please don't self diagnose, that can be detrimental. I have been diagnosed with BPD and now am able to focus on my recovery. It took a long time for me to get the right diagnosis and because of that I went in and out of therapy for 20yrs, make sure you get a full psychiatric assessment before you GUESS that you have BPD. Good luck and hope you find your answers.

  • This description is impossibly broad. This woman just described approximately 50% of everybody at one time or another, & about 80% of adolescents.

  • sounds like me... i need help.

  • How do you differentiate BPD with Bipolar Disorder?

  • I have A.D.D, Borderline Personality Disorder and I'm Debressed :/

  • This definitely explains it better than some of the websites... I may show this to some of my family and my boyfriend to help them understand a little better. You look a lot like my psychiatrist, btw. :)

  • I have BPD and have been doing DBT for nearly a year now, and am coming to the end of the Therapy. It has helped loads, but my Individual Therapist has has not allowed me to discuss any of my feelings relating to abandonment etc and I feel that without these underlying issues being addressed i can't fully recover. Why is it that DBT only focuses on self harm and suiciadal tendancies, and to the root cause of the BPD.I would love an answer back or some extra assistance please. Thanks

  • Ok so i have a big quesion i have basically all of those symptoms but im never happy or overly happy just either anger frustration nd depressed...but ihad all da other symptoms...so wud i have this r not?

  • I have traits of BPD and i went to DBT and it helped sooo much, it was really hard to deal with everything so my parents signed me up for the class. I was a little skeptical at first and didn't know what to think but it really helped me deal with my emotions and everything else that was going on in my life at the time. I have not been diagnosed with BPD since you can't really diagnose someone with it before their 18 (thats when personality fully develops) its been hard but worth it

  • You make BPD's sound so benign...being married to a BPD was shear hell.

  • Look up the healing power of Neurofeedback....please spread the word it seems to be a secret and it is an answer to unlock the brain

  • i think that's me...am 45 years old and i think that is what i have....is there help for me....cause i think there will never be a normal for me....please let me know

  • Your video made me cringe and shutter of how accurate it applies to me. I've set up an appointment with a psychologists and I'm excited to be finally doing something about my BPD

  • Does BPD respond to rational emotive therapy ?

  • I have been BPD since I was a young child I had been through therapy dince I was 6 yo now in my 40's and I know how to deal with it I had spent 5 1/2 yrs in patient and intensive therapy married for 21 yrs life being BPD is fun actually because I see things differentally then others dio I am not medicated medication never helped me

  • Living with someone with borderline personality disorder will certainly reinforce a lot of that negative stuff you read on the internet.

  • Wow - you seem like a wonderful, knowledgable, compassionate therapist. I wish I could see you for DBT treatment!!!

  • I have so many questions please anyone help me my girlfriend blieves strongly she has bipolar disorder I am beginning to think it might be bpd all of these things sound so much like her. She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder but I don't believe this is correct not to mention all of the medicine she had to take had adverse effects making her throw up and become extremely depressed. we have gone out twice now she says she really likes me and that we really like eachother and we dated for four m

  • It's like she's talking to me. I read multiple articles online, and watched some videos, and I think I may have this. About addictions.. I am always on my laptop and never do my homework ever.

  • Thankyou, you explain this very well and better than anyone on You tube in my opinion. x

  • i think i have BPD O.O

  • Borderline Personality Disorder in two words: refer them...

  • im 13 and this really sounds like me. almost everyone i even used to cut- not anymore tho i started hating the pain i left my arm in. and your voice is just so calm and warming to listen to i usually hate the fact of having to go to a therapist because i hate the fact of telling smone about my life and depending on a stranger to help me with my problems..

  • I am indeed having some of the issues you mention early in the video but I don't have many of the symptoms you describe. I am hyper sensitive and hyper-vigilant but don't have many of the symptoms mentioned. Glad I am still perfect.

  • Thank you for this video. I have BDP and could never understand why I had consistently bad relationship outcomes in my life, at work and personally. Understanding it has really helped. I no longer view people in my life as purely good or bad, just people.

  • Everyone I know, has these symptoms. Without showing examples of clear cut case with this so-called disorder, you are opening up the possibility of people (like me) unnecessarily worrying about this problem. The description is so broad and so vague as to be meaningless. Why do mental health professionals cause so much harm? This is a stone's throw from burning witches.

  • @zeze40video If you really had BPD you wud not write these things,, So, you can stop worrying. And guess what? All the descriptions you may find are this vague,, cuz it IS a vague disorder,, and that's why its diagnosis take usually a long time.

  • @DollyPaprika92 Fair enough. I suspect that there are as many people prescribed WITH BPD who do NOT have as those who are saved by a diagnosis. There is a better diagnosis - Adult Child of an Alcoholic

  • @zeze40video You raise an interesting point as many children who are raised within families that contain an alcholic develop BPD. The subtly of the distinctions between the syptoms of BPD and "normal" feelings are the reason that mental health proffesionals (not the vocal and enthusiastic untrained amatuers with an interest in psychology that inhabit the internet) are needed to daignose BPD. BPD has a horrible sounding name, making people apprehensive about taking on that label to describe them.

  • @zeze40video I can't believe I wrote "prescribed with BPD" instead of diagnosed with. I am perfect and don't normally make mistakes.

  • Thank you for this video. I'm going to share it on fb. It helps to feel understood.

  • thanks alot Ms.

  • thank you

  • Is it possible to have BPD as a teen? I felt like you were talking about me the entire time.. I also have depression and ADD (which I hear is common among BPD) I know most teens feel this way at times, but I feel the symptoms so intensley, I know it can't be normal. I am very interested in becoming a psychologist. I purchased several abnormal psychology textbooks, including DSM-IV. Is it possible to become a psychologist and have psychological issues yourself? Please help.

  • @24bw24

Yes, it is possible to have BPD as a teen however, the hallmark symptoms are often seen as adolescent behavior so it is VERY important to get a good assessment by a mental health professional. If in fact you do have borderline personality traits, you can get the help you need to change your life around and be happy and fulfilled. That may very well include pursuing your dream to become a psychologist. Good luck to you!

  • @TheVideoTherapist please watch"RUN FROM THE CURE" it is uploaded on youtube...this is really helping my BPD......

  • @24bw24

no its not possible to become a psycholigist if your mind is unstable!

You have to deal with heavily emotional experiences from patients. A BPD person can't handle that. A BPD person isnt emotionaly strong en wize enough. Why you think its called a disorder? cauze ! you ! dont ! en Can;t Think ! RATTIONALY!!

sorry for the bad english.. i live in holland.

  • @24bw24 I'm seventeen, and at age fifteen my symptoms were noted as borderline in the mental hospital, specifically because a lot of my risky behavior happened when people abandoned me. I originally was diagnosed with bipolar and depression.

  • At least a clear and out of topics video about BPD. Its the very FIRST video I watch that can clearly describe and explain BPD. I would like her to explain a little more about DBT. Thank you.

  • can u have bpd and bipolar at the same time?

  • @letherit77 Yes, you can. It is often difficult to tease out as the mood fluctuations can be very similar. It takes a seasoned therapist or prescriber who can do a good assessment.

  • @letherit77 yes

  • @letherit77 i have both and it stinks

  • First, thank you for putting the video doc. I have a question, do you know if there is possible relationship between bulimia and Borderline? type fill emptiness with food ...? Thank u!

  • @mariaanasademj

Eating disorders often coexist with personality disorders. Food can be used for "control" or as another form of self-mutilation. Dr. Legge

  • MissAMLynch: Many of the symptoms of BPD mimic behaviors that are sometimes typical of adolescence. We try to tease that out and only make the diagnosis when it is truly warranted. When the "adolescent stuff" does not remit into adulthood, is seems more attached to issues of personality. Dr. Legge

  • do you have to be an adult to have BPD??

  • @MissAMLynch : No, adolescents can also get this diagnosis. However, it is important to get a thorough assessment by someone who specializes with children so they can tease it out from other possibilities.

  • @TheVideoTherapist Ok thanks :)

  • i was diagnosed today with bpd, with me im about 75 percent feeling depressed and 25 percent being litrally hyper, its so extreme.i love the highs, but the lows r just awful.good vid.

  • If I could, I'd give you a great big HUG for posting this video. It was clear, concise, easy to understand and most importantly, ENCOURAGING! I've been depressed for days since starting research on BPD for my daughter. It almost seemed hopeless because so many videos tell about the worst of it. Again, THANK YOU!

  • This sounds like every human being on the planet. It sounds like the human condition. I think NOT having uncertainty in the post post modern world is a sign of insanity.

  • Agreed. At some point in everyone's life, to one degree or another, I really believe everyone goes through this. It's such a "catch all" phrase for "you're having a hard time". I'm really tired of all this psychobabble for you "need to change your life, cuz it ain't working for ya". Whatever happened to everyone's different, and that's just that, or that person is just having a hard time? Do we really need all this labeling?

  • I accidentaly come across a video about Borderline Personality Disorder, trying to learn more about Anxiety.

Everything about Borderline Personality Disorder describes me, it is shocking, I watched a video about it and it made me cry, it hit home that hard.

I have only saw a Psychiatrist once, a few weeks ago, because my Doctor referred me, I am going back on March 3rd.

Should I tell the Psychiatrist I have researced Borderline Personality Disorder and think it relates to me?

  • I would encourage you to be open and honest with your psychiatrist. Good luck to you!

  • Thank you for being kind.

  • Nice to hear a Dr. who knows her stuff. thanks so much. There is so many misconceptions and false ideas about BPD.

  • haha me in a nutshell. this really helped me make sense of my BPD, thanks

  • I think I will go to therapy. Your soft voice makes me feel better about the horrors I should confront. I hope my therapist is a knowlegable about this disorder.

  • Good luck to you!

  • i was admitted to the hospital june 09

because my bf (ex) broke up with me because he couldn't handle me i cut myself and banged my head.I have a new bf and i pick fights with him i tell him i hate him then i apologize i break up with him and then ask for him back i can't control my emotions i'm afraid he will leave me

  • oh god.. i think i have BDP.. you are just describing me *exactly*... but then i think nah, i'm just relating to this too much. i just don't know what i'm thinking!! oh, buggar this.. i'll just go have a cig. :) hehehe

  • My mother had BPD. Understanding the Borderline Mother is the most awesome book ever. I escaped it (thankfully), but have a dissociative disorder instead....not much better, I guess.

  • thank you!

  • Ladyshystar,

In your case, you can walk away that easily because she is just your sister-in-law. For me, my sister, big sister, 15 years older, though hasn't been officially diagnosed, fits all the symptoms of this BPD-NPD and she has been eating me alive. I don't know how to help her because she had every friends of her convinced that she grew up like a rich princess and now she's a big shot, etc. while I have been a burden to her cus I have bipolar and she's been taking care of me :)

  • Oh, my two paragraphs below are out of sequential order. The first listed paragraph should be the second, and the second paragraph should have been the first. Sorry, my fault.

  • Ms. VT, do you believe hyper-neediness is neurobiologically-driven? Because if so, BPD would have to be categorized as a neurobiological disorder, where all behavioral patterns are merely reactive coping methods to alleviate the pain that flows outward (or inward) from there.

  • I believe that we are motivated by our need to avoid pain.

  • I've had some anxiety and depression over the years, and before that I knew I had family issues. The problem is I was recently diagnosed by my psychiatrist as having bpd. I could care less what he calls it, I just wonder if it's possible to not fear abandonment, not want to hurt myself, but still feel some of the symptoms of bpd. My sense tells me you can have varying degrees of a disorder. My problem is my symptoms aren't so pronounced that it's obvious. Thanks for the video.

  • I know a BPD whose core wound seems to be a galactic-sized black hole of neediness. That insatiable neediness seems to be the intensely hot thermal core that drives the engine of her self-soothing pathologies. All her dysfunctional behaviors seem to be attempts to alleviate the pain spawned within that massive hole of neediness.

  • you are good. thank you.

  • I'm glad you got something out of the video. Insight is the first step... good luck to you! Deb Legge

  • I can relate to nearly everything in that video. For nearly my whole life I thought there was something wrong with other people not seeing things in my shoes, but when even the most understanding person I've ever met didn't understand me, I thought the problem was me. That prompted me to look into this disorder . Finally some answers! haha Thank you! I'm thinking I should see someone about it.

  • Many of the personality disorders have symptoms or features that overlap. If you can find your way to get a good assessment, you might have a better idea of what you are dealing with. Then you can determine if taking the risk of seeking treatment might actually be worthwhile in that you can address the avoidance at the same time as other personality issues. Good luck to you in making your decision!

  • Thanks for this video. I pretty much know I have Avoidant Personality Disorder but this sounds familiar to me to a degree. Although, a lot about BPD signs involve interpersonal relationships.. and I avoid them all together. So it's hard to tell is this is something I may have. Due to my poor social skills, I even avoid talking to a doctor... thanks again for the video

  • what's the quick and easy cure for bpd?

  • I wish i knew of one! Changing lifelong traits and patterns takes a lot of work and time. The good news is that most people notice positive changes as they move along in the process. My experience is that Dialectical Behavior Therapy effects the "quickest" changes in that the focus is on learning more effective skills and making behavioral changes. Deb Legge

  • A highly informative presentation of a complex and, often, misunderstood mental disorder. Thank you for the profound insights.

  • thanks so much. I'm glad you found it to be helpful! Deb Legge

  • you are an absolutely sweet lady. i have some of these sypmtoms but some not all, so i have know idea what i have i am highly irritable so i take an ant depressent which does not help the depression but it helps with my irritability and secretly take this medication for the purpose of not having to constantly analyse why i am here on this earth. i wonder if there is a diagnosis for that. however great video, please make more

  • thanks vry much! Deb Legge
