very good and she keeps the repeat engaging as well . normally i hate this cabaletta, i think its one of the more uninspired ones that verdi wrote, but she keeps it exciting.
I can't believe it! I've been looking for this version EVERYWHERE!
It was this version with Cruz Romo and Richard Tucker that introduced me to Il Trovatore and it's been my favorite opera ever since.
A year later (in 1978) I saw Cruz Romo in the role of AIDA in Israel with the Israeli Philharmonic conducted by Zubin Mehta...truly classic! Thanks so much for posting this!
Simply stunning. Both verses no less, and the second time even better than the first. TROVATORE Leonora is virtually the only one of her major Verdi roles that I never heard her in live. Thank you so much for posting this. Which of the many pseudo-Verdi sopranos currently before the public wouldn't give anything to be able to sing this aria half so well on a recording? And this is live.
A great singer and terrific artist. One of the best Toscas and Butterflys I have ever seen. Too bad there are not more video performances of this wonderful opera star!!!
I'm really attracted to her interpretation here, especially the mezzo forte in the beginning. It's touching. The entire cabaletta though is beautifully done - a rousing performance.

Cruz-Romo did her best singing starting in about 1980. I always liked her. She does have a bit of a war cry at the last phrase in this recording.
