We used to run into this problem locally at our ice fishing derby, we'd have an average of 115 shacks on the river, during the derby they limit it to 1 car per shack now, and that still sinks the ice a lot. It never used to be like that and one year we ended up having nearly 2 feet of water on the ice. I was happy i didnt have my car down there lol... but there had to have been well over 200 cars that year.
alot of people fuck up i just came back from Gilford last Monday the ice was only 4 inches but it was back ice so i guess people got lazy and drove out 2-3 miles and this half ton truck started doing donuts on the ice and broke the ice and he had to pay $1500 to get it toed out plus another $1500 for environmental pollution or some thing like that..
u would think some of those people would notice what was going on and move the cars and trucks. these people are fuckin idiots way to pollute the already nasty lake simcoe even more
i remember when i was really young, my uncle had his truck out on simcoe. started to go through...ice was cracking and shit. no other vehicles around, middle of winter. maybe not such a great idea to go on it at all.
they park there to go enjoy a day on the lakefishing skidooing etc, very little parking in the village of Gilford On. parking on the Lake is safe, parking close to each other is not. it is a big Lake the weight of the cars push the ice down .when a hole is make in the 8"thick ice water comes up adding more weight .look in the back ground of the picture you will see an other parking area with the same amount of cars safetly parked
ha ha!

thats what happens when you put to much weight on one area, it gives that trampoline effect of where you go down but you dont come back up.
