@Parsifal7170 Wrong. there is evidence that even while singing soprano repertoire critics of the time used the mezzo soprano label on Maria. At the same time, Viardot sangroles like Lucia, Amina and other soprano roles.
Stunning....what a great voice...Mendelssohn's little known concert aria Infelice should be more internationally recognized. It's a great piece and Bartoli sings with a beautiful voice..I love the harmonizing with the violin. This also definitely sounds tailor made for sopranos like Renee Fleming. Seems like it would have also been terrific if sung by Montserrat Caballe due to all those floating pianissimi
I am thankfull that Mdm. Bartoli is looking and searching for the repotoir and the life of Mdm. Malibran. Malibran was the greatest voice in her time. I mean her voice must be like the great Tetrazinni, or Patti. We must not forget sutch great voices befor our own time. For me is Bartolis voice the best, or one of the best in the worled in her time. But for others may be other!
She has gone slightly over the top with her research on Malibran - it is like an obsession, yes? But I am thankful for that, or we would not have the benefit of learning about this great singer, or hearing this wonderful music that was her repertoire, like this wonderful Mendlssohn piece. It is very beautiful and I thank you for posting it!

Bravo for uploading this...just wonderful music and Bartoli is a Goddess as usual...the orchestra is just a miracle, on period instruments and without conductor!!!...a whole musicological research behind of this...but well...some people are blind...and even worst...deaf
That is right go ahead denying reality...without swearing:it is an insult to malibran to compare this voiceless product of the media with that great singer.
In addition to that the idea of "pluging in" a show of Malibran's memorabilia everytime she makes a concert is disgusting and in horrible taste.
Actually, the only sign of a lack of taste that I see is that less than flattering dress. Looks like an overdone bridesmaid dress. Not good.
For the rest, she is being very respectful to the style both of the music & Malibran. The bus? Well she said it was done out of love and admiration for Malibran. I will not fault her for that.
Her voice is what it is, like it or not. Some days I love it and some days I hate it. What is impeachable is her style. She does a lot of research, & it shows
Get a life. If you think you know so much more what real bel canto is, why don't you one up Cecilia Bartoli and upload a video of yourself singing something. I'm sure we'll all have a good laugh, if you even have 1/100th of the courage you try to display with such inept comments as you have made.
