  • People were hearing this shit 6 towns over.

  • 2:33 holy......shit.........excuse me while I change my pants

  • lol i cant wait till i do this, this is the top of my list dci to do list, then 4 others, lol i like dci bands there the best :D

  • Some of my officemates just got on my case for listening to this - "dude, we heard that over here." Did I mention I was wearing earbuds?

  • Why do people wear marching gloves during practice in the summer? I'm suspecting its to keep their horn clean (?)

  • @ToweringTimeTable On most silver brass instruments, sweat from your hands will very quickly wear off a lot of the lacquer, and the sexy silver will turn into an ugly copper color. Wearing gloves protects the horn, with many corps consider a 5-7 year investment.

  • I dont even bother going to the "show".. The real show is in the lot, as this video proves.... When did you march frank?

  • As a former BD lead Sop (trumpet), this was one of the most fun parts of the summer - warm-up's before shows where fans get to sit inside the horn arch and get their faces ripped off. People do not realize how f'ing loud it is. Throughout the summer, one by one we would get to put our horn down and go out and listen to F-Tuning/Space Chords - it literally pushes you back! Thats why at this point in warm-up's, I always got a big smile, because I knew the fans were going to get a big treat!

  • power chords!

  • If that note on 1:22 isnt the coolest note i've heard, lol

  • our hs used to do this. it was awesome

  • this should be played in sperm banks.

  • Probably the best audio recording of ANY parking lot warmup. You can feel the power of that line and the hype these players had for this chart. I need to make this my alarm clock tune every morning with a huge speaker stack surrounding my bed! ........Each day could then start off with some awesome before breckfast.

  • epic baritone horn ripple

  • omg.......bandgasm

  • One trumpet hangs over for half a second, and I can not even register how high he was playing! Awesome, I came in my pants, I can't wait to be a part of this Corp!

  • @onewiseowl They do it on purpose to show off. Watch every Blue Devils Brass video there is, and a high playing Trumpet player will always hang over.

  • @b2trumpet

...0_o I know this, I am a DCI fanatic, plus I march trumpet for one of the best high schools in the state of Florida, The Golden Regiment...

  • @onewiseowl Yes sir lmao Bucholtz HS Is one of the best In the Country lmao....i wish i could be Apart of them...

  • @robinsonjestten

    Buchholz

  • @onewiseowl it was a double c

  • wow! i agree with onesirian!

  • i say only one thing

    HOLY SHIT MAN !!!!!

  • Holy F*ck is right lol.

  • easy

  • BA horns up for those contras. And, of course, an absolutely bone-chilling chord sequence.

    What year is this?

  • @podbuster0 '96

  • godlike........

  • I looove when it gets really dark at about 2:02!

  • yeeeaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!! Chill bumps!!!!!!!

  • The trumpet that that hung over kinda sounds like someone squeezing a fart out. Just sayin other then that awsome

  • Music of the universe.

  • Holy F*ck

  • I'm such a dork for this kind of stuff... love it!

  • Amen.

  • Holy... I got chills and almost teared. This is amazing and loved that high trumpet hanging over... Perfect.

  • So did I dude...Can you imagine playing that let alone hearing it? It must be an orgasm everytime..

  • I actually thought that trumpet hangover sounded terrible. the rest was specatcular though.

  • 2:55

  • Comment removed

  • any one havin music for this? dam those trumpets :D

  • i think i just peed myself

  • okay, im a drummer. and this is god...

  • 80........

  • a trumpet hung over in the end and it was screaming i cant scream for my ife

  • i dont even like Blue Devils, but I'll admit that was amazing....BD always has the best warm ups to watch. i still dont see how its possible that they can play that loud and high during warm ups and still have chops for the actual show...they must have chops of steel.

  • Holy Fuck is exactly right. I'm in total awe right now.

  • I marched Phantom Regiment. We had a strong horline. But I gotta admit I've always had a sweet spot for BD. That gave me goosebumps and jitters. Amazing.

  • oh my god! that was so good i wish our band was like that.

  • Heres my analogy: if you somehow took the most power jet engine in the world and made it produce music, being here in this video would be like standing right behind that engine at full throttle. :) :)

  • The conductor has such the amazing privelage of conducting them. That alone is probably the most fulfilling thing ever, to be able to conduct them through that excercise/warmup.

  • I still sometimes have nightmares of Dr. Beat haunting me. ROFL

  • holy f*ck! is correct!!!

  • 2:30

    I got goosebumps.

  • me too!

  • 2:48

amazing pedals from the contra line

  • BD....the sheer amazingness blows me away, litteraly, when they came to my school and we sat in the middle of the trumpet arc i thought my ears were going to EXPLODE with the amazing power of awesomeness comming out of their bells.

  • you're right, but when I die, I wanna wake up in heaven and play this

  • I dont know... i think i am in heaven just listening. no need to die = )

  • lawd.....tubas all day

  • Finals was awesome! Congrats BD for another 1st Place!

  • this has to be like the loudest thing to ever exist

  • Goosebumps every time! FINALS WEEKEND, YAHOO!

  • That's so in tune its nauseating..... Well, the consonant parts anyway lol

  • JEEZ>..i miss drum corps so much!

  • 2:33 is like the universe being recreated.

  • i definitely laughed out loud at that

  • haha i totally thought the same thing

  • and 2:45 is where Earth was created.

  • @onesirian Perfect.

  • I get chills every single time I watch/listen to this. It's so powerful.

  • This is freaking amazing! I get chills every time i listen to it. One question tho. Can anyone tell me what that thing is at 2:04? I can't figure it out.

  • Its a dissonant chord.

I call the exervise a cluster chord, where everyone picks a random note.

The various tonguing is them just messing around as directed to.

  • Lol. The chord isn't what i was talking about. If you look to the far left at 2:04 there's something that looks like a dog or something. That's what i was asking about. Thanks anyways =D

  • it kind of looks like the PA speaker we used to run dr. beat through...

  • oh my gosh. the chords in the last like 20 seconds are fucking awesome and gave me intense chills!!

  • Very nice, but would have liked some lower tuba and higher soprano trumpet especially at the end!

  • for sure

  • holy fuck is right. this is killer!!!!!!

  • Pure Blue Devilly goodness!

  • Inspiring. I haven't touched my horn for a year since finishing my tour in the Marine Corps Band. I'll be playing tonight.

  • my god!

    this is amazing.

i wanna hear this in person!

  • Nope, nobody makes a 5/4 contra. I think The Line would rebel over that.

  • Drum corps is the only thing I know that can make ordinary people shit themselves while watching a group warm up. It happens all the time I have seen it and I have done it. Awesome

  • I hate DR.BEAT!!!!!

  • gotta love the dr. beat. LMAO

  • listen to the screamer at the end of the video when he cuts them off

  • Comment removed

  • so a double...

  • Speechless.

  • love the squeal at the end

  • what year was this from, again?

  • i think 94.

  • i think it was 96 cuz the guy said he could hear the dr beat 12 years later.

  • i found another video of this warm up. its from 04

  • no, maybe it was because he was in the blue devils 12 years ago,

  • no this is a recent video of 2007 or 08 because you can tell by video quality, look at DCI videos from 94 and you can a difference

  • Comment removed

  • Walnut, Ca... 2004

  • 0.0

  • this is corps people...not band.

  • What has just amazed me (after the sheer quality of the performing) is how from 1:22 onwards, the conductor uses his fingers on his hand to dictate what type of chord to the musicians should play...

Look!! First he uses two fingers, and they play a major fifth - two notes. Does the same again, and then uses his full hand to get a full chord. At 1:55 he holds up one figure and the band all play the same note. Genius!!

Speaks volumes about the band, the fact that they play and notice that!!!!

  • oh dear god. Somebody needs some research done on this subject. Corps is not band.

  • I am well aware of corps - I used the term as in a band of musicians, which they still are... Either way, semantics. I'm not belittling the musicians or the musicianship - just a turn of phrase!!!

  • 2:33 will bring anyone to their knees and bow down before the awesomeness!

  • Holy fucking shit!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i thought my band was good

    haha

  • ......words.....cannot.....describe......

  • 1:38 is like a warm blanket on a cold day. :)

  • nice.

  • Whoops, I didn't mean to put triple there

    Sorry :|

  • HOLY HELL! listen to that cutoff lol

not bad for a corps. that's always stoned :p

    jk I love you guys.

  • for some being stoned actually helps! Maybe they should have drug testing in DCI. - NOT!!!!!!

  • It was just a double C.

  • What was that at the end? A triple E?

  • Reminds me of Jim Ott. Thanks.

  • they still can't resist the lead sop. hangover- BD will never change I guess.

  • I like it. When it comes to BD I expect it. even if it might not be super high it's a crowd pleaser

  • yeah- like I said BD will never change. It is funny though how horn lines have thier own personality through the years, go listen to BD '72, 79, 82, or whatever. Same stuff. I like it too. Just an observation from a Garfield Cadet.

  • Dr. Beat!!

  • OH MY GOODNESS.

  • Comment removed

  • ma che cazzo è sta roba

  • awsomee!!

  • always a pleasure.... 43K views says it all...

  • WoW

  • kinda reminds me of the THX logo in the beginning of the movies hahaha

  • Oh, baby, yeah! lol....

    Beautifully said.

  • HOLY EFFFFFFFFFFFF.

Yes, even a bassoonist can appreciate a brassline.

  • I'd pay good fking money to conduct that just once lol. But it'd have to be in the middle of the grand canyon.

  • Dr. Beat urg...

My Band Director put it on bitching betty once (the woman counting) turned it all the way up and walked behind us standing with the Speaker on the hight of our heads...

My ears still ring when I'm thinking of that.

Thanks for uploading, Blue Devils are perfect as always...

    from 02:20 it's unbelieveable!

  • HAHA, I'm going to say bitching betty from now on!!!!

  • It scares the living s**t out of me....

  • i agree; the first time i heard 2:33 i literally felt fear

  • >> Quick, while I'm still young enough to learn; someone, somewhere, tell me how to practice up to the lead soprano range like that O.o

  • It's pretty simple as long as you're willing to put in the time:

Practice increasing your air/lung capacity and range every day, multiple times per day. Try to hit a new high note each day--and take private lessons....that never hurts. It won't happen overnight. I've found that the more air that I can put through my horn, I can play higher notes (I'm a bass trombone player, primarily) Don't think about putting air in your horn, but more like putting air past the bell and through the wall.

  • the only bad thing about being in BD is that you never get the chance to hear it live.

  • those that don't know DCI.....have nooo idea what they're missing!!

  • 2:30 onward needs to be the SFX for THX intros for movies.

  • if i could go back in time.. i would defintenly be in front of this with my hands cuffed over my ears!!!!!

  • A New Dimension every 5 seconds after 1:25. If I was entering a new world, this is the GATEWAY MUSIC I WOULD BE HEARING!!!!!!

  • with woodwinds in the mix it's probably nowhere near as epic as a dci hornline, but still, cool.

  • LUCKY

  • ahh damn the DR. is ALWAYS IN :)

    PING PING PING PING!

  • thats crazy awesome and brings chills everytime.

  • You really should have a different name for this video. =P

  • the whole space chords is the rising action, and that last trumpet is just the climax.

  • i came... and still flowing

  • The Vsus4 to V7 chord makes me horny...gawd

  • 2:30. goosebumps. wow!!!!

  • 1:22 is the best!

  • BD and Phantom have the best hornlines....PERIOD

  • and Crown of course :D

  • yes Crown has a fantastic hornline

  • wall of sound!

  • Haha...thanks man - I marched both

  • dude dat was awesome

when did u film this phillip????

  • i need a paper towel please....i made a mess...damn..

  • Dear Blasterboy2007, you are excused to go rethink your life.

As long as you don't get any of that on me there trumpetz09.

And Brassaholic, [clank] there. There's some more cowbell for ya.

Now I want all of you folks to GET THE HELL out of my front yard!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What year is this from?

  • P.S.

    Fuck yes!

  • excuse me while I go rethink my life

  • The title of this video says all that needs to be said...

  • that was not a scream lol

  • yes...it was. and guess what?..... i have a fever ......and the only perscription....is more cowbell

  • screaming is trumpet language...

  • My god....... and to think one of my best friends is going to be playing mellophone in this group........

  • Did anyone else hear the screamer at the end of the warmup?

  • yes, the super C note pwns :D

  • who couldnt?! lol

  • Yup. That was Scott Dean, the Blue Devils' soprano screamer-god, bringing The Word unto the people.

If you haven't yet, try searching him here on YouTube -- he gets special mention quite a bit.

The guy was made of iron, and played with great style too. I don't think I ever heard him sound less than fabulous, on the field or off.

Even with their bottomless talent pool, BD has had a hard time finding anyone who can step into Scott's verrrrrryy TALL platform shoes...lol...

  • Is this a stock arrangement, or BD specific?

  • I believe that during the whole space chord part, it says to play a 5th apart from your neighbor. or something along those lines.

  • its any note withen a 5th of the previous and the next note your going to play

  • Ahhhh...Space Chords.....the memories. STILL one of my fave exercies to play, although we didn't have that BITCHIN' chord progression at the end when Jack Meehan ran the line (back when son John was a little kid in the B corps)...just the cluster chord -- resolve -- and the altos putting in "Close Encounters."

Kinda wish Jack DID have those chords back in the 80s...FUN to hear....but better behind a mouthpiece.
