At 2:57, I feel the exact same the girl does listening to this. then at 3:04, she can't take it anymore, and is asking for a big shot of dope, to get through this Vai, Johnson soundalike.
@TheKittykatSmack I find his playing incredible too, but that's because he has some green patches on his guitar. I, on the other hand have a blue guitar which, as any guitarist will tell you, makes playing much harder, so my playing sounds a bit crap. As soon as I get round to painting some green bits on my guitar, I'll be playing just like Glenn. I'd love to see HIM playing a blue guitar, I bet he's crap too :)
His talent is unprecedented. If you're criticizing your jealous. Amazing, but he practiced his ass off to achieve it. Wish I could say the same. John Petrucci was my fav guitar player but now I'm not so sure.
I have no idea where this "It's the same as Satriani" idea come from. It sounds fuck all like any Satriani song I've ever heard. I suspect there are a lot of people here who are trying desperately to find something which sounds remotely, kind of similar to this and use it as a criticism. I also suspect these same people decided to criticise it for no other reason than he is actually quite good. Actually, bollocks to "I suspect...", I know it!.. and you do to.
@xstevie666 Some of the technique and the tone does sound a bit like Satrinai and even Vai. Even if your not hearing it. This doesn't take a thing away from Glenn. But just because your not hearing it doesn't mean its not happening. A bit like a dog whistle, ya cant hear it but its there,
@XxXChizelXxX I completely agree, infact I can hear a few similarities myself in terms of technique and a few shared notes but I just feel that people are jumping on those few similarities as an excuse to criticise. However, the song as a whole (dare I say it - the important bit) just doesn't make me think of Vai or Satriani. Well, it kind of does - but only because there aren't too many guitarist frontmen about that I know of - It's certainly not because of the song. Continued...
@XxXChizelXxX ...Furthermore, I find it extremely unlikely that these same critics are criticising ZZTop or Aerosmith for sounding derivative, even though these bands share much more with their contemporaries than Glenn Proudfoot does with Satriani or Vai, and the reason is simply that it's just not cool to criticise a non-virtuoso. Sorry for rambling on and on, I'll shut up now :)
@xstevie666 Totally agree. Guitarist have to draw influences from somewhere. At the end of the day, Glenn is a fantastic guitarist in his own right. And I look forward to following him for many years.
Glenn is a great guitarist but I think it's funny that the drummer in the video is using brushes and the drums in the track is clearly using nylon tip sticks, show biz I guess
incredible soul and feel reminds me of satriani and melodic petrucci man every note though is pure and i deffinitly get a ywingie vibe probably the strat
This is the first time ive heard Glenn, and its amazing. Very envious. However, i cant shake the feeling that this sounds directly off Steve Vai's Passion and Warfare. It sounds a lot like that album.
This is so incredible the feeling I get inside and the emotion is felt unlike most music out there where one person tries to outshred another this is fantastic. The articulation is beautiful great job Glenn
A great guitar player, no doubt, BUT, not only your tone, but your phrasing, everything sounds exactly like Satch and Vai. You have the ability, now you need to change EVERYTHING!!! EVERYTHING!!! Sound, phrasing (play the opposite of what you normally would) whatever it takes, strip down everything from guitar, amp, phrasing, and simplistic BS to just play over. THEN, maybe you will reach the ranks of the names that will last 4ever. Hendrix, Vaughn, EVH, Malmsteen, Gilbert, MacAlpine!!! CHANGE!!
@itchyballz300 You shouldn't let some ones clothing and haircut be the deciding factor when you listen to music. If you continue thinking like that you'll miss out om alot of great artist.
People are so fucking tight assed, and shallow. This dude is young, cut him some slak, letting your influences come through in your playing/phrasing should not be thought of as a badd thing. I have listened to epic amounts of both guitar players mentioned and I can say without a doubt that I dont think Glenn is copying in the least, seems to go out of his way to hit phrases that are different, and new, while still playing rock guitar.
@Graiskye Totally agree, not the biggest fan of this guy, but he's a solid player with a cool style. So even if I personally don't really get moved by the music, he still deserves my respect.
@BBMonkey77 I suspect Easleytee DOES actually realise how good this is. From the tone of his comment he's specifically targeting and criticising good music in order to seem intelligent. Obviously his facade didn't have a hope in hell of working (he just came across as a bit of a cock really) but bless him for trying eh? :)
@Easleytee Well if you go out of your way to find fault (which is obviously what you have done) you're sure to come up with something eventually - no matter how utterly irrelevent your pedantic whinging might be. Sad really, don't you think?
I love the way he shreds in a "peaceful" manner, it complements the song, doesnt make it explote, it just flows with it, great job, I just discovered him, and by this video alone, I can tell he is awesome
@scwalts similar tone, similar arrangements....but different artist. It's not easy to do this, and Joe would be proud of this song. It's actually a bit Steve Vai-ish.
@thorandmoljnir its funny because he says he really doesnt enjoy steve vai or joe satriani lmao. I agree with you though, if you told me satch wrote this, Id believe you.
I don't know how to describe it, but his music doesn't breathe. It sounds like he is noodling in his garage. Great instrumental music has spaces in between the runs and his just doesn't. He certainly can showcase his playing, but his composition is lacking. Learn to play AND compose from the masters, not just how to play like/from them.
