I do love Sarah's voice. I think she has made wise career choices in the types of music she normally sings, and looking after her voice. WRT opera my opinions are similar to those of jewelmarkess a few months ago. I think Domingo's decision to sing this with her in this context is a correct one, because it may attract some of the classical crossover audience to see what opera is like. Opera is expensive. Perhaps some companies could have low price performances for those who have not been before.
I do know a reasonable amount about her career and her achievements.
I also enjoy much of her singing. I am aware that she has had some operatic training.
Like quite a few other opera lovers, however, I do feel she falls short of most opera sopranos,
both in this video and elsewhere, nor am I aware of her ever attempting to perform a full opera. I think she is great in much of what she performs. I doubt if she wants to perform full opera as such. If I am ignorant, show me where.:)

Obviously would not hire Sarah to sing this in the opera, but in a fun concert like this, we should not demand such high standards. She has talent. If she was prepared to put in a lot more training, she might attain a higher standard. Having a go at it in this setting is probably not a bad thing. People with much natural talent should be encouraged to improve themselves. They do need to be aware, they have work to do to sing opera proper.

Placido is in another universe, way higher than Sarah. Her voice is too Flat and soft for this aria... and she is not even performing (actually she almost doesn't move as she is making visible effort singing this.) Any person who knows the role of Violetta (the character that sings this role) understands what I'm saying... Violeta needs a Dramatic timbre.
Sarah may be great with her own stuff but she is weak when she tries this kind of things.

Sarah's voice sounds very POWERFUL here, this is definitely one of the best performances of her career! She is singing at the same level of technical ability as Domingo in this video. Who says she's not a Titan in the world of opera? I think she certainly is!

Sarah is bigger than Placido you know? But Plácido of course is an opera legend. Sarah is a new age, pop, rock, classical, broadway, jazz, country, crossover legend.
I think Domingo recognizes the need for cross-over artists such as Brightman and others to expose opera to new generations. Some people (being fans of Brightman, perhaps) may watch this video not knowing anything about opera and get curious about the art form. More likely not, but I got interested in opera through such artists, so it is possible.
@anasconuto He sings with her because he sings with everybody, no matter who talented the person is, it matters who is "hip", maybe that is the cause why he sings with Katherine Jenkins. But if you have enough money to spend, he would even sing with you :-).

One list even had MINGO (WHERE'S THE DO?) at the top of the list above Caruso!?! On the same list were names like Heddle Nash, one of the worst voices on record. Even Mingo must of had a good chuckle at this. Only people with empty spaces between their ears are fans of singers like this.. apparently that's what it takes for them to sound good!

Sarah's voice sounds very POWERFUL here, this is definitely one of the best performances of her career! She is singing at the same level of technical ability as Domingo in this video. Who says she's not a Titan in the world of opera? I think she certainly is!

veo que las aguas estan muy divididas en cuanto a los detractores y defensores de sarah brightman, yo me considero una persona con algo de conocimiento musical ya que estudie canto lirico en la escuela del teatro colon en Bs As, sarah no es de las cantantes liricas puras pero tampoco canta solo pop, a mi parecer ella fusina el pop y lo lirico en un ir y venir constante creando un nuevo genero musical que le da mas vida y menosd acartonamiento al mundo de la musica clasica.

El problema no es que no me salgan los agudos, su técnica no es la apropiada para cantar ópera. Si embargo la culpa la tiene Plácido por aconsejarla a hacer eso jaja: La verdad es que tiene buena voz si se dedica a lo suyo, a mi me encanta.

@LordHettrick Ironic that it took a "non-classical" as you put it not "even average opera singer" to actually bring and expose non-classical listeners to classical music and enjoy it. Yes this so-so singer did something that a classical trained soprano (which she does'nt claim to be) could'nt really pull (unless your a classical trained listener and a follower) and that is BRING MORE NEW LISTENERS that can appreciate classical music and opera. We should all be THANKFULL!

I'm quite sure nobody has the right to tell her what she can and cannot sing. She can sing what she likes, and Domingo has repeatedly said he finds her voice beautiful, that Opera purists should learn to accept Crossover, and that if she wishes to sing that way, no-one should stop her.

I think Domingo recognizes the need for cross-over artists such as Brightman and others to expose opera to new generations. Some people (being fans of Brightman, perhaps) may watch this video not knowing anything about opera and get curious about the art form. More likely not, but I got interested in opera through such artists, so it is possible.
