If you're new to this game you might as well not play it. After about level 10 you pretty much have to have a group to level an there are no more lower levels in the game so you are just screwed. Unless you like running around ghost towns and never leveling don't play this game. Maybe in xiv they won't make you pay for every new toon you want. I believe this is why there are no low level toons in the game now. No one wants to have to pay to experiment with another toon.

Even exploring got you killed and to LOSE xp, which was so impossible to get in the first place? Not to mention Square=Enix's total lack of concern for controlling RMT's. This game just needs to stop, it would be impossible to start now and do anything with it, unless you had 5 specific friends that only did every single move together at all times, FOREVER.
I defy any WoW player to attempt to play XI. This game was truly the hardest of hardcore, and while it had it's faults it also had a great deal of strengths as well. Here's hoping that the devs have learned some valuable lessons once 14 drops.
nope i played it spent 90 quid in like 3 months buying gil etc and got completely ignored by players when i needed a aprty to complete certain quests/missions. don't play it wait for the newer one so you can start off better and end up as high as these fucks

its not the game that sucks its the players. the graphics are pretty cool and weapons skills etc... its just that most of th eplayers won't take the time you help you.
I have to disagree. In my experience, the players were generally a lot more "approachable" than WoW players. Although this game does get points for the style factor, like you mentioned, it loses points for its flaws. Most of these flaws include the extent to which they limited players. Take, for instance, the "Adventuring Fellow" system. This was a neat idea, but the high cooldown on the item made it unviable - especially for the ammount of effort you needed to put into it.

Ahhh memories, I played this game since it came out. What was that... 7 years now? I quit a year ago though, ToAU ruined it for me. Basically took all my time in Dynamis and nerfed relic gear with salvage. Even the +1. But man I wouldn't trade anythying for the memories I got out of it.

Since the ps3 came out? I have a $3200 Mac and the Ps3 is always going to be better for video games. That's just how cool it is. Besides that, you don't HAVE to use a shitty wireless connection. I don't.
A ps3 could max any game for it with 60 fps... that's just how consoles are. But the most high end game I was expecting to play on this Mac was WoW. So... lol
Thing is about console ports is that they have to dumb down a lot of the graphics, kill the background resolution, etc. I can honestly say that a modern gaming pc would put a ps3 to shame. Hell, I can emulate PS3 and Xbox 360 games on mine and it's not even a powerhouse, only a single video card. PS3 does have the advantage because it can play Blu-Ray, though! I don't have one of those yet, they're still on the expensive side.
You can emulate ps3 games... but not play blu-ray? How? Ps3 games are blu ray discs. I guess most games don't actaully NEED blu ray since you said 360 AND ps3. But could you still do it even for the huge games that do? And I've never heard of a game were they dumbed down anything for the ps3... but I've also never layed a game that was ported to it FROM a pc either, so I probably wouldn't know.

You can't get Ninja until level 30, thief is pretty hard for beginners and as I recall they don't get many party invites, either go with a Warrior, Monk or a Red/Black Mage.
Depending on the weapon you're using there is a delay in between your attacks. You attack automatically. Pausing in between to use weapon skills and cast spells. It's a very simple, yet complicated system lol. It's alot of fun if you get into it ;)

lol the only thing about FFXI I hated, was that once you got agro. you had run out of the zone, which means you could be running for miles in some cases.
not anymore. they have a depop system now. if you run fast enough or you have deodorize on, you can make the mob not have go unclaimed. then shortly after it will depop.
Anyway, WoW drops you in the middle of everything while FFXI eases you into the world. Fast pace people usually go to WoW while the story-goers and people with more free time go to FFXI. Both are fun to their respective groups ("Hack/slash kill all/ solo to goal" to "Work your way to your goal with others"), but how you take it I guess. I'm for FFXI since I'm about story depth and taking my time.
I'm with you a bit as far as the story part goes. I loved FFXI, and I still say it's a great game. But after playing both for a considerable amount of time, I just simply have more fun playing WoW, and part of that is due to the fact that if I log on the game, and only have a half hour to play, I can actually get a significant amount of stuff done compared to what can be done on FFXI in the same amount of time.
Reason being that you need a group to do most of the content in FFXI, and groups aren't always that easy to come by unless you're a necessity class like tank or healer, and even then it can be tough to get a group for what you want to do. Sure there are crafts, but unless you already have the materials on you, you're not gonna get much done in a half hour. With WoW, I can do quests or grind mobs on my own, and I can get more done in the crafting side of things during that half hour.

Ahhh memories, I played this game since it came out. What was that... 7 years now? I quit a year ago though, ToAU ruined it for me. Basically took all my time in Dynamis and nerfed relic gear with salvage. Even the +1. But man I wouldn't trade anythying for the memories I got out of it.

Thing is about console ports is that they have to dumb down a lot of the graphics, kill the background resolution, etc. I can honestly say that a modern gaming pc would put a ps3 to shame. Hell, I can emulate PS3 and Xbox 360 games on mine and it's not even a powerhouse, only a single video card. PS3 does have the advantage because it can play Blu-Ray, though! I don't have one of those yet, they're still on the expensive side.

But could you still do it even for the huge games that do? And I've never heard of a game were they dumbed down anything for the ps3... but I've also never layed a game that was ported to it FROM a pc either, so I probably wouldn't know.

The animations really aren't stiff.
A lot of the weapon skills are full body movements with a lot of grace and power.
And FFXI >>> All other MMOs.

You can't get Ninja until level 30, thief is pretty hard for beginners and as I recall they don't get many party invites, either go with a Warrior, Monk or a Red/Black Mage.

No, but...
It's like turn based and real time combined.
Depending on the weapon you're using there is a delay in between your attacks. You attack automatically. Pausing in between to use weapon skills and cast spells. It's a very simple, yet complicated system lol. It's alot of fun if you get into it ;)

i know what you mean... it's ok for mmo's to be stiff, but this is too stiff. and the actions for skills and attacks don't vary too much...
if they took the dot//hack infection/mutation/outbreak fighting mixed with FF12 system as well as FF12 graphics. and like you said blah times content and things to do.

And when you say it's stiff, you're most likely comparing it to World of Warcraft. I play both and find them to be very enjoyable. FFXI is a better game all around, and end game kicks ass. But it kinda sucks having to party to do everything.

as for stiff, i never thought of WoW even once in comparison. it sucks that you have like 3 animations for strikes, and they are like twitches. you twitch stab, then a vacuum forms in the direction you stabbed. the vacuum looks nice, but the stab is lame, especially when the same stab is repeatedly used for almost every other attack as well... do//hack series was stiff/reserved, but it certainly wasnt like this

Anyway, WoW drops you in the middle of everything while FFXI eases you into the world. Fast pace people usually go to WoW while the story-goers and people with more free time go to FFXI. Both are fun to their respective groups ("Hack/slash kill all/ solo to goal" to "Work your way to your goal with others"), but how you take it I guess. I'm for FFXI since I'm about story depth and taking my time.

I'm with you a bit as far as the story part goes. I loved FFXI, and I still say it's a great game. But after playing both for a considerable amount of time, I just simply have more fun playing WoW, and part of that is due to the fact that if I log on the game, and only have a half hour to play, I can actually get a significant amount of stuff done compared to what can be done on FFXI in the same amount of time.

Reason being that you need a group to do most of the content in FFXI, and groups aren't always that easy to come by unless you're a necessity class like tank or healer, and even then it can be tough to get a group for what you want to do. Sure there are crafts, but unless you already have the materials on you, you're not gonna get much done in a half hour. With WoW, I can do quests or grind mobs on my own, and I can get more done in the crafting side of things during that half hour.

WoW probably has about the worst pvp out right now, it's completely unbalanced, very class favored, and if you're not in full furious you're gonna get your ass handed to you. Guild wars/ DAoC/Aion have THEE best pvp systems out/to come out so look up your shit before you talk shit nigger.
