I found this incredible. I've heard of how pretty it was west of Denver on I-70 but have never seen it...until now. Please post more as you can, I loved this video!
Most beautiful interstate I've been on was I-75 through KY (Rockcastle County in particular) and that doesn't hold a candle to the many splendors of I-70
Excellent video man im gonna be heading from Las Vegas to Illinois soon and im gonna be taking I-70 all across UT, CO, KS, and MO.. its nice to see the route that ill be taking :) great video
I would love 2 visit CO and take this drive. I live in GA, so beautiful mountain drives are mostly on backroads, not interstates. There are a few drives in the Appalachians that could compare 2 this. There's a new stretch of I-26 that goes from Asheville,NC to TN by crossing the Smokies. The drive from Chattanooga to Nashville,TN on I-24 is also very scenic.
@GAdawgsfan93 I drive from Florida to Nashville every summer to visit my mom, siblings and quite a few of my relatives that live there. And my favorite part to drive through is from Chattanooga to Nashville,TN on I-24.
As beautiful as the Rockies are, I think there's something just as magical about the Great Plains. I grew up on the plains and I just love things there. Thanks for this video - it was so well done!
AWESOME! I love that drive as you come into Denver. :) You really need a westbound one too... There are some fantastic views going westbound out of Denver. I can't wait to see the rest of the I-70 videos across Colorado! (I have been all across Colorado on I-70.)
@simplykristib: Thank you, very much! Yes, that is indeed a thrilling drive, down into the Denver metro area. I don't have any westbound videos thru the Rockies, but my I-70 west video thru Denver will end at the very base of the Rockies, so it should offer a preview of what to expect for westbound motorists.
Great video, I-70 in Colorado always astounds me. Last summer we drove from Denver to Vail for a day and I never took my eyes off of the window. Nothing quite like it in the US.
@FreewayTitan: I've come to appreciate I-70 much more in recent years. The first time I went on it, I think I was too young to really appreciate the sheer beauty of the Rockies. Perhaps that's because I grew up, being spoiled by the Sierra Nevada mountain range. But I-70 thru the western half of Colorado is probably the most remarkable freeway drive in this country.
Hah, I remember listening to this song when we were taking off from LAX. It fits the mood and scenery of this video very well. Great choice! And, amazing footage to boot. Can't wait to see the rest of your Colorado videos!
BTW, if you want, I ran across this website where you can customize downgrade signs using any percent grade. It uses MUTCD fonts and shields. Thought those may look kind of cool on your future mountain videos.
OH YEA!! Def waiting on the rest of THOSE videos...I-70 seem like it would be VERY SCENIC....wild curves....outstanding engineering....yeeaa bruh! I wanna see what thats like! so when I make that road trip one day to go skiing somewhere out there, I'll know what to expect! When is the next video?!?!
@AuGkUnTrYbOy07: Hey there, buddy. I'm hoping to release the next I-70 video in the next day or two. Yes, I-70 thru western Colorado is indeed an amazing journey. I also recommend that you scroll down, maybe 10 videos down from this one in my playlist, and check out I-70 thru the San Rafael Reef (it should say the edited version in the title) in Utah. It's my favorite stretch of scenic freeway in the country, and considering that I've driven in 44 states, that's really saying a lot!
@FreewayBrent Oh yea I've seen that video! I think I've watched most of your videos so far...that drive had to be something serious in person though. I have to make it that trip too...with a pretty lady in the passenger seat....good ol music bumpingn (probably Outkast, J. Cole)...and the Nikon on standby! lol
@booklover691: I guess living in a state that is notorious for steep grades w/heavy traffic (California), it didn't bother me much. Just downshift the automatic tranny to D3, and let your transmission keep your speed in check. :-)
@Derham43: Pretty much the entire Metro area. I should start uploading the videos in the coming days and weeks ahead, if school doesn't get too hectic. Thanks for watching. :-)
I am very surprised that Colorado Department of Transportation made a sign that shows that the lanes would go into the freeway at 2:42-- Doesnt that road give the freeway like 2 lanes?
I haven't seen this route since I was a kid. Thanks for the upload. Looking forward to seeing more of your Colorado vids. Did you by chance get any of I-25 on film? I know the traffic kinda sucks there. If you ever make it out there again though be sure to check out Buffalo Bills grave. Its one of the coolest scenic overlooks in the country. Anyways awesome work Brent.
@eluko79: I did indeed record I-25; in the Denver area from the CO 470 stack interchange to US 36/I-670, and thru Colorado Springs. I also recorded US 6, US 36, US 285, I-225 and CO 470 in the Denver area.
I was wondering about Buffalo Bill's grave. I'll definitely have to check that out, next time I roll thru the state.
very nice, colorado is beautiful, I have one question tho, what is the traffic monitor coverage of us highways/freeways (I never know which is which), do you have cameras installed only on urban highways/freeways?
@bsdpowa: It really varies on a state-by-state basis, and sometimes even from region to region in a state. Washington and Oregon have decent rural traffic camera coverage, and so does California in the northern parts of the state. Surprisingly, some states still don't have *any* traffic cameras.
A freeway is the equivalent of a motorway, autobahn, autostrada, autopista, and so on. I hope this makes sense.
@FreewayBrent I looked it up on Google Earth. They have Latitude and Longitude and Altitude at the bottom of the screen for wherever you place your cursor. I just placed the cursor over the South Mt. Vernon Country Club Rd. overpass and it read 7,735 feet. Again, thanks for all of your videos.
@arningad: Wow, I should have thought about Google Earth. I wanted to include the elevations of both the starting and end points, but couldn't find any reliable information. I didn't realize Google Earth was detailed to the point where you could find an elevation from virtually any point on the planet.
@Bryant5493: I will probably showcase CO 470 in the future; however, I did not want to spend the money to drive on E-470, primarily 'cause it seems like a relatively boring tollway, w/o much geographic variation or much in the way of scenery. Even for an urban freeway, it doesn't appear like there's much to showcase.
Thanks for the Video. At 3:14 the prairie is visible beyond the hills and trees. It is that flat line that runs across the screen just above the two yellow road signs. That prairie runs flat all of the way to the Mississippi River and beyond.
@arningad Well, not all of the way. There are bluffs and valleys along the Missouri and Minnesota rivers, as well as areas of rolling hills throughout the Midwest.
@quijeros: I might release Glenwood Canyon footage in the next week or so, but a part of me kinda/sorta wants to save that as my last I-70 thru the state.
In this video everybody can see how large this country is. A country like switzerland looks like legoland compared to the american midwest. Very impressive, but i would fear this distances, nothing for a european who needs just some hours to drive to its capital city or another country.
@ZLothKram: That's a good idea. I actually do remember the date that I drove this (11/13). Unfortunately, with over 500 videos in my archives, I have largely forgotten when I filmed the majority of them, lol.
