im a freshman at Texas A&M and after reading these comments I would just like to say that people have a seriously skewed view on us. The traditions are strong here, but they are centered around honoring academic achievement and the courage of other aggies who fight for America. The yell leaders will get you pumped up more than any cheerleaders can (though I dont understand why we cant have both yell leaders and cheerleaders) . well, a university, team, or organization is judged by the people who represent it, he should have known what and what not to say before he even went out on that stage, you cant just say "oh it was just this one guy" if that one guy is representing thousands of other people. A&M deserves loss of respect. it has to win it back, and if it really was just this one guy, that should be no problem for them.

yes, i actually can say "it was just this one guy." if you can find me several other examples of an A&M representative saying something this classless, then A&M deserves a loss of respect. sure we trash talk our opponents, but every school does, and we typically keep it within limits. on top of that, we don't boo our opponents. one person cannot simply represent a university. but if it makes any difference, A&M isnt proud of this at all.

I think if everyone came to A&M and would go to yell practice they would see how fun, exciting, and funny there storys are (make not, the more beers you have the funnier the story). As u said some of us do admire Coach Paterno and we probably all do. Hes a great coach but u must realize that this is just a part of a tradition and is not actually meant to be taken seriously. Personally, I don't hate the Aggies. I only trash talk about the Aggies when ignorant A&M supporters defend the Yell Leader's comments. I only hate A&M on the field if you know what I mean.
And believe me, I know that most A&M students and fans were honored just to have JoePa come to San Antonio, even though many knew it would be like 1999. And that many folks, including Aggie football players, were pissed off at the Yell Leader's comments.

For many people who have never experienced a yell practice this may seem a crude, ignorant, classless comment. However, you'd hear a lot worse at a REAL yell practice in Kyle Field. The only reason they sent the yell leader home was because the media made such a big fuss about it and so many people were offended.
