the enthalpy of combustion is when 1 mole of a substance is completely burnt with oxygen under standard conditions, all reactants and products must be in their standerd states.
;) ive been revising thanks for the vid works well..
I have a question which is the Enthalpy of Combustion of C5H12O (l) + 7.5 O2 ---->5CO2+6H20 (l)
But i am only given the Standard enthalpy change of C5H12O, CO2 and H2O but not O2 in OCR 2850/01 the data sheet doesn't have the enthalpy change of O2... Am i suppose to know it as 496 or is there another way of working out the right answer only knowing the change in CH12O, CO2 and H2O?
Good looking out homie.

The bond enthalpy of C=O is -799kJ :) not -743kJ. Otherwise it helped me a lot thank you. The explanation was very clear

Thank you sir! This is proof that British folks make better teachers than American ones!
(No offense to my teacher though; he's pretty cool too)

@youarepwned Out of curiosity, do you know if teachers have tenure in Britain?
