I own both a Porsche turbo and the new Z06. A STOCK Porsche will not beat a Z06 period. A modded turbo will generate loads more power and will do some damage then. Z06 Corvette is the best stock car for the money.
use the 6th gear yeah its an overdrive but u wont go slower and it drops the rev so at that point u can only go faster the 4th gear overdrive in my 93 camaro z28 auto let it go alot faster yeah it topped out at only 170 (is a guess bc the speedometer stopped at 15) but ppl gotta use the 6th gear

I think you have it just right, a Mustang is pretty much as fast as a Cayman, but in slalom test, break distance, quality of materials in the interior and exterior the Porsche is just soo much better, but good things are expensive and are not in every one's economical reach, but i'll sure try to save for one.

U r correct sir. It seems most people prefer to forget that an owner can do all the same things to a Corvette engine as is done by the factory Porsche to get competitive horsepower. I thought about putting the STS turbo system into my C5, but $10k...good price for 600-800HP, but... well, I am actually pretty happy with the showroom HP in the Vette. Seems to be quite powerful enough for a daily driver, and passes cars just fine when needs be.
if the vette was modded why did it not top out? i've ridden in the new z06 and it tops at 198 stock that car was no where near that, and if it was modded it should of easily been doing 210+ sorry but i say stock z06.

I'd say this test doesn't really count for much. A couple of amateurs with no clear rules to guide comparison. Like most such videos, it nowhere near covers the full range of capability of either car. Bottom line is both cars are excellent machines, and I drive a C5 Vette daily just because of its superior roominess, comfort, ride and capabilities. The current Porsche have better handling in the corners, but I think I chose correctly given the Porsche's bumpier ride and smaller interior.
I own a 996 TT with 566hp and a friend of mine has a 2007 Z06,and I can tell you it's as fast as mine 996 but it weights about 400 pound less than my porsche,I never liked vettes but I like the Z06...

BULLSHIT!!!!! I own a C6 Z06 and a 78 930 TURBO. I built my 3.3L single turbo porsche and it runs even with the Z06 till about 130mph due to gearing an aerodynamics. It is not surprise that a modified turbo 911 will win. Off the showroom floor the C6 Z06 is the best car for the money. I love both cars and any car can be modified to kick butt. Hell I can mod a 1.3L Rx7 Turbo Rotary to beat a Vette.

I'm a member of 3 different Corvette forums, C1 through C6 editions, no more problematic than any other car, freign or domestic. Show your proof. BTW, not all Honda's live to 130,000 miles. I've owned 2 F-bodies, which used the same engine/trans as the 'Vettes, both had over 100,000 miles without major work.

First of all you can buy a porsche turbo used for less then a zo6. And the zo6 can only in a striaght line and if you modded it the handling will get worst. but it sure is a dam fast car. but it will never do what a porsche will do and thats handle and go dam fast.

I think you have it just right, a Mustang is pretty much as fast as a Cayman, but in slalom test, break distance, quality of materials in the interior and exterior the Porsche is just soo much better, but good things are expensive and are not in every one's economical reach, but i'll sure try to save for one.

I was on my stock C5 needless to say he was embarrassed in front of his girl. The M6 is a pig of a car with a BMW badge on it.

WTF are you talking about, stock for stock the c5 matches the M6 almost exactly in EVERY catagory except top speed, where the vett will walk away because the bmw is governed @ 155. The c5 Z06 beats the m6 in every catagory. You are right the figures dont lie, Yes the m6 has 500hp but it also weighs 4400lbs, do the math thats an 8.8 P/W ratio. Which is about the same P:W as the base c5, The c5 z06 has a 7.6 p:w.

wow i'm never surprised at the lack of knowledge from the foreigners about cars in general. First of the all the porsche weighs more. Actually by about 250 lbs. Second of all its easier to mod a turbo engine b/c all u have to do is crank up the boost. And did anybody ever look to see how much both cars cost?? You're an idiot. The 911 in this race is the 996 (last-gen) 911 Turbo (2000-2005) which has the old 414hp 413ftlb engine (unmodified - the car in the video has suspension and bodykit only). And it hosed your stupid, lighter Z06 which has more power (505hp) and more torque (470ftlbs). So how do you think it would go against a new 997-version of the 911 Turbo (2006-present) with 473hp and 502ftlbs? Overpriced piece of garbage? No. The Corvette is a cheap piece of shit.

U r correct sir. It seems most people prefer to forget that an owner can do all the same things to a Corvette engine as is done by the factory Porsche to get competitive horsepower. I thought about putting the STS turbo system into my C5, but $10k...good price for 600-800HP, but... well, I am actually pretty happy with the showroom HP in the Vette. Seems to be quite powerful enough for a daily driver, and passes cars just fine when needs be.

I'd say this test doesn't really count for much. A couple of amateurs with no clear rules to guide comparison. Like most such videos, it nowhere near covers the full range of capability of either car. Bottom line is both cars are excellent machines, and I drive a C5 Vette daily just because of its superior roominess, comfort, ride and capabilities. The current Porsche have better handling in the corners, but I think I chose correctly given the Porsche's bumpier ride and smaller interior.

BULLSHIT!!!!! I own a C6 Z06 and a 78 930 TURBO. I built my 3.3L single turbo porsche and it runs even with the Z06 till about 130mph due to gearing an aerodynamics. It is not surprise that a modified turbo 911 will win. Off the showroom floor the C6 Z06 is the best car for the money. I love both cars and any car can be modified to kick butt. Hell I can mod a 1.3L Rx7 Turbo Rotary to beat a Vette.
