  • Looks impressive on the water and in the air. Seems to handle like a boat on the water.

  • he is so happy that landed with safety then starting playing with water like jetsky

  • and comes with a trailer, everyone I know that has Money, is spending it! like bekecool

    btw no onboard oxygen sys.

  • @TheWoodart whta is the price for trailer?...

  • Would it kill them to make this a 4 seater with 300hp so I can take my friends camping at Tahoe?

  • @JcXtreme72 it wouldnt fit in the light sport aircraft cat. any more

one of the restrictions is only 1 passenger and 150kts airspeed

  • @Elios0000 May wanna double-check your facts. No, really.

  • @BlackAeronaut im pretty sure im right the limits are 139mph and ONE passenger

and 1400lb weight limit so making a 4 place 300hp ver would take it out of the Light Sport aircraft cat. dont think im right still? call up the FAA and ask what the restrictions are for a Light Sport Aircraft they will tell you the same thing

  • @BlackAeronaut here right from the FAA web site

Maximum gross takeoff weight—1,320 lbs, or 1,430 lbs for seaplanes.

Maximum stall speed—51 mph (45 knots) CAS

Maximum speed in level flight with maximum continuous power (Vh)—138 mph (120 knots) CAS

    Single or two-seat aircraft only

  • @Elios0000 I'll see that and raise. Specs on the A-5:

    – Seats: 2

    – Maximum Takeoff Weight: 1430 lbs

    – Maximum Speed (Vh): 105 kts (120 mph)

Stall speed was a bit tougher to find, but they have it at 43 knots. Found it on their news page on their site. Scroll down until you find the heading "Engineering Updates" and it should be there.

  • @BlackAeronaut seems to fit JUST in side the class for a Seaplane now doesnt it? 1,430 lbs for seaplanes.

so yea any bigger and its not LSA any more the other issue you cant get the auto folding wings AND the retractable gear it puts it over weight its right on the web site

you pick one or the other to keep it under the 1430 weight limit

  • The rich love to flaunt their toys.

  • @FORMETOKNOWONLY Think of the highly skilled workers that are employed to design and manufacture this aircraft. Their paychecks contribute to the local economy just the same, being that they need to eat, get dressed, and pay property taxes too... Long LIVE Aviation !!!

  • @FORMETOKNOWONLY and the poor love to bitch about the rich.

  • THIS THING HAS THE POTENTIAL OF BECOMING A GREAT MILITARY ASSET. THEY SHOULD CALL IT THE A5 FYLING GATOR.

  • can anybody tell me some facts about the aircraft like top speed how high it goes

  • Some of us don't accept this bad economy and keep working hard! I am now debt free and piling up cash for an airplane!

  • Note: always one person on board Still have never seen two regular sized people take off with the amphib gear attached, its underpowered. it struuggles thru the air I Con? no U Con!

  • @HRMOKeefe1 hmm i disagree there is another video with two people in you have not look very well its even on icons channel lol, and it didnt look like it struggled at all and its not a con at all because the wings fold it lands on water and its brand new if anything its a bargain

  • the first plane sounded like a weedwacker!!! and then the A5 comes along and just whispers around like it's no problem... LOVE IT!!!!!!!

  • i went to the eaa and saw this this year

  • I want to see a demostration of the whole plane parachute

  • The better option I think is the SeaMax; 100kts+cruse and 500mi range.

  • Gorgeous aircraft but unless my ship comes in it's a SeaRey for me.

  • Antonsb-About what a Quicksilver Sprint II on Full Lotus floats runs. If one's desire is a flying "jetski", it meets that goal. Granted, nothing you'll x-country in. [Who goes anywhere far on a jetski?] However, it'll fly off nearly anything that's wet [including grass and snow], lift anyone that fits in the seats, is off in <300 ft & is beachable on rocks. The most pure float flying fun per dollar spent.

  • test

  • looks like a very expensive SeaDoo with wings. That first full-stop landing sucked. I hope the pilot took his teeth out ahead of time!

  • – Seats: 2 – Maximum Takeoff Weight: 1430 lbs – Useful Load: 430 – 530 lbs (option dependent) – Baggage: 60 lbs (maximum) – Fuel (Auto Gas or Av Gas): 20 gal – Maximum Speed (Vh): 105 kts (120 mph) – Range: 300 NM – Takeoff & Landing Distance: 750 ft – Engine (Rotax 912 ULS): 100 hp directly from their website. looks like a lot of fun, but the range and speed are the deal breaker for me. (if the Vh is 105, the 75% cruise is probably around 70 to 80 knots)
  • ICON CEO, says in his EAA video flying his Phantom ulralight is the metric of his flying enjoyment. He calls the A5 a flying jetski. Costwise, it's a flying Mercedes. I put 150+ hrs a year on a $22K 2-place ultralight ELSA floatplane with inflatable floats I keep in my backyard and fly in shorts. Can't see what $113K gets me in terms of more enjoyment. Also, LSA doesn't fix the [AOPA est.] 80% dropout rate in flite training . Folks don't quit cuz they didn't know the costs b4 starting.

  • @JRobichaud56 Which one is that $22k ELSA floatplane?

  • Oh I forgot to add the weight of the motorized wing folding and locking mechanism. I predict ICON either increasing the weight limit outside of LSA rules or basic design changes like elimination of the folding wing or selling as a single seat aircraft. I just don't see all the features, fuel and two adults coming in under 1350lbs. This is one time I hope I am wrong.

  • @coolgreyoneabby To meet the LSA rules motorized wing folding will be offered only if the aircraft is ordered without the landing gear (water landing only). If you order landing gear then you have to stick to manual wing folding.

  • @billybengal Thanks for the info. I really want these guys to succeed, but I'm concerned with making too many promises that they can't keep. Look at Eclipse aircraft. Looks like that backpedaling on feature list has already started. Question: Would ANYONE purchase power folding wings over landing gear? In any case, they will still have weight issues. A sexy airframe and a great website are not going to overcome a lack of useful load and range. Any info on a non LSA version?

  • @coolgreyoneabby Personally I could care less for the wing folding (unless it really costs a lot to keep such small aircraft at an airport and I don't know if it does or not). But you're right, I don't think many people will opt for the motorized folding in this case. Personally if it saved weight I would prefer no folding wings option and more cargo load. Keep in mind that the weight limit for Icon according to LSA rules is 1,430 pounds instead of the "regular 1,320. The additional 110 lbs

  • @billybengal is allowed for LSAs that land on water. It may not seem a lot but that's 8.33% weight more than 1,320 lbs. According to their website at this point icon is only an LSA. Personally I think they should offer "European" LSA option (Europe allows more speed for their version of LSA and I believe a little bit more weight, too). Doesn't help here in U.S. but it would help their sales abroad. Anyways.... At this point I can't afford it but I'm a huge fan.

  • While a great looking aircraft, the basic problem is the weight limit for an LSA. If you have non fabric covered wings, retractable landing gear and a fuselage that withstand waves, you will end up with a heavier aircraft. Now try to put two people in it and fuel and you are overweight. What remains to be seen is if they can take weight out and get this aircraft to carry two people and enough fuel to go a a few hundred miles. I hope they can, but it doesn't yet.

  • I like it I live In Michgan and we have allot of water here,, As soon as things go right I'm in. I hear the turnaround is 2 years on your orders? Is this correct?

  • cool

  • 2 weeks to get a permit.... I can just see the headlines... "Another rich businessman dies from plane crash."

  • I want one! I want one! I want one!

  • From day one I've noticed that Icon is very selective and sophisticated when it comes to creating a favorable impression on aviators and the public alike. Definitely targeting a different demo than most LSA manufacturers. In the last 20 seconds of this video does anyone think that 3 girls in bikinis would really just happen to be in the water marshaling another seaplane around in the back ground? Hollywood at its best! LOL, pretty smooth guys :-)

  • I love those Icons...... ease of operation. a trouble free cockpit....great easy design. I would love to own one to bad my pocketbook cant afoord it. Oh well. maybe one day

  • i went to oshkosh 4 timee it is also the bigest operatingairport in the world once evry 1 goes the for eaa and the 2 week airshow. and it is in my opinion the best airshow in th

  • Cannot wait to get my hands on one... Its going to be so much fun. I think its the most versatile vehicle ever device for a $150K price tag. And it takes off at 45MPH and in a very short distance. Just amazing.

    ..X..

  • From what I hear, they have a 500 plane backlog.

  • this is definately my favourite plane. $130,000 isnt actually a bad price for this much fun

  • I definitely want one. My only concern is the folding wing. I realize that is not new technology, but it's obviously not going to be nearly as strong as a solid piece. That said, how does it withstand the pressure of the water on the landing turns? I could be wrong, and correct me please if I am, but it looks like the left wingtip grazes the water at 1:50. Anyway, gorgeous design and looks like a lot of fun to fly.

  • Looks like drugs are still getting in to the States.

  • @yegsmitty22

It's dumb shits like you, walking around with your badges, that's responsible for bringing most of the drugs into the Sates.

  • ulm ??

  • IMO you never see two people in it, I dont think it will fly with retractable gear and two passengers, too heavy

Hope not it sure looks good

  • @HRMOKeefe its designed as an amphibious 2 seater aircraft...so yeah...I'd say it would fly with 2 people and retractable gear...its DESIGNED that way

  • I'm saying its too heavy and you wont see 2 people and retractable gear...in the same scene, have you? They always demo it with one person and without ampib gear installed....IMO

  • @HRMOKeefe Actually yes I have seen 2 people in it and it did an airport to water flight. I really don't see how you think it's be too heavy. it has a wonder lift to weight ratio.

  • @jgdogg441 that wonder is thanks to carbon fiber

  • OK, accept your eye witness account, dont have the #s

    Hope its a big hit

  • Ahhhhh, so nice, and so sad.... To bad your selling a luxury during a depression. Might have military application but I hope they can "float" their business at a loss for at least another 5 years until the economy picks up..

  • Good point, but I am not selling them, I am buying one.

  • @bekecool

Very pretty aircraft. Will you upload a video once you get it?

  • @bekecool Nice, did you just get it standard or did you add the sea plane configuration or parachute or auto wing fold? And do you have a private pilot license or just a sport license?

  • @brandon35335 Haven't gotten to the "options selection" phase of the order process. They haven't even put one out the door yet. I have a private pilot license, but you only need a sport for this one.

  • @JoeVSvolcano there will always be people to buy stuff like this

  • @JoeVSvolcano the people that can afford these planes do not have to worry about the depression

  • @JoeVSvolcano a luxury?!? The A5 is only going to be $150K tops. How is that a luxury? Its the most versatile vehicle EVER(!) at that price point. You can tow it with a medium size truck, and it uses conventional fuel. You need to do your research before making non-sequitur statements

    ..X..

  • @JoeVSvolcano rich people don't know what "recession" means. lol

  • @JoeVSvolcano

Why... do you think this depression is taking anything away from their market? ... really?

If anything, the folks who are well heeled enough to afford this kind of thing in the first place are doing better in this reverse robin hood economy.

  • @JoeVSvolcano you are dum, try and order one right now, you won't get it till 2015.. that is how good they are doing

  • @JoeVSvolcano You made a valid point about that, HOWEVER, the next batch isn't even coming out till 2015 so they should have time to pick up some grabbers. The thing I am most worried about is not so much about the economy is now, but could happen if Iran keeps showing their "power" and decides to cut of a large % of oil to North America

  • @ARjordanMY The Saudi's said they had no problem picking up the slack if Iran decides to cut their oil supply to those with sanctions against them.

  • Gimme

  • I love that it also has retractable landing gear, a parachute, and killer dash. Start saving up boys!

  • Now imagine fishing on that

  • I believe the reason you cannot fly at night is because the plane is not equipped with beacons or flight lights. It has head lights and flood lights only. You are only allowed to fly this in uncontrolled airspace. no airports or cities. lakes and camping trips.. can't wait to get in one!!! Not sure if your PPL overrides the requirement for the Sports pilot certificate.

  • @M1criminal Bullshit, You can fly LSA aircraft in controlled airspace.

  • EvRY time 1 lands in H20 I swear I think somebdy is about to drown. but then damn-est thing.they dont. crazy. They float w/ all that weight? Would they sink in choppy waters? Also, the parachute? is it thier own proprietery chute or a Ballistic BRS chute? I love this plane! Gr1000 avaiable? If I have prvt pilot lic. can I fly at night, ? Wish the rt seat had tuck-way stick ala Cirrus. Thanks for posting, UR the best . love a streight guy who loves guys who post aviation....is that so wrong?
