  • Ilove how they experimented with the different styles and genres, not trying to compare, but definitely reminds me of radio head and incubus. primary examples of change and growth.

  • New favorite.

  • WHY IS THIS SONG SO COOL?!? Thrice is so talented!!

  • that aisle is 100% zoned/blocked for all you who work in retail lol

  • I'm sorry but I must give a thumbs down for this shit.. WT FUCK happened to the original Thrice????? Holy fucking SHIT!! This song isn't that bad but I did not look up new music from Thrice to listen to some new wave souding bullshit like this... I would have looked up some other band for this kind of shit WTF THRICE?!?!?!?

  • @HellzReverend lol, yeah you should probably look up some newer Thrice, it's nothing like this. This is probably the album they most experimented on, so you wont hear any of their other newer stuff sounding like this. If anything, you should respect Thrice more knowing how diverse they are, and for having the balls to experiment and making music they like, they can really do it all.

  • 44 people won't hear your voice go to ones and zeros.

  • what the hell happened to awake and avenge the dead, deadbolt, aka badass thrice?

  • @JakeMaydae If they were still playing the same music as ten years ago, I'm sure it'd be great...but then again,

we would'nt have great songs like Digital Sea.

  • @JakeMaydae It took a nap....and awesomeness ensued.

  • @JakeMaydae listen to the fire ep of the alchemy index. its all right there! and some shit on air. just because their doing new shit doesn't mean they suck now.

  • Has a sort of Innerpartysystem - Innerpartysystem sound, love it!

  • @zeldja pendulum / innerpartysystem feel to it

  • I bet the employees of that store were pissed, having to restock that shit

  • nasty vid

  • The song is beautiful

  • This album helped me through the darkest time in my life. Thrice still have it, and always will. Fuck all the haters.

  • Absolutely stunning video. I love it.

  • Check out our latest video for Dull Day, I wrote it 3 years ago while I was extremely depressed due to losing my voice and this beautiful album not only got me through, it inspired me to make something out of it all. You can hear the similarities in the vocal hooks, but it's definitely very different. Check us out on facebook or just go to my channel for lots of fun videos. wwwfacebookcom/makethemdocile

  • @jacksonjdr94 u mad bro?

  • @KenneyTDAGARIM come up with that all on your own? guess not. enjoy your trolling on posts made months ago. you're awesome. really.

  • @jacksonjdr94 Thrice is the best though. y u so mad about it?

  • @KenneyTDAGARIM I liked their old sound when they were fast and heavy. this is like a different band almost, nobody's mad. just disappointed i guess.

  • Publix, where shopping is a pleasure

  • The atmosphere this song creates reminds me of sextape by the Deftones

  • The video is.. awesome.

  • i have no felt nothing

  • This video what intense... must have taken foreverrrrr to record that!!!

  • if you are going to Bamboozle please film THRICE

  • I hated this song the first time I heard it. Now it just seems so... amazing...

  • just think how an MP3 player works while watching it.

  • The song is about being lost under a sea of digital media, the grocery store represents every band out there putting their music on the shelves to be purchased and how people take the ease of getting music they love now a days for granted. Not too long ago if you wanted to be a musician and really sell crap you had to play at every venue for shit pay and hand out your CDs like they were cookies. Nowadays someone like rebecca black can upload a song they made in 30 minutes from their house.

  • @TriFekt omg... i hate you. you suck.... you are so wrong and stupid. go choke and die please. dont sit there and give your opinion. your opinion is crap and no one cares

  • @ridge014 the beauty of music is its artistic expression the way I perceive it may be different then your own opinion, but the only people who could enlighten me otherwise to its meaning is the band itself.

  • @TriFekt But she paid $4k or sumtin to make it :o

  • @TriFekt maybe hes even taking shots at people using autotune LOL

  • @TriFekt no to defend rebecca black, but i'm sure it took her longer than 30 minutes. editing alone is a bitch.

  • @TriFekt I always kind of thought it was a nod to Lost In The Supermarket by The Clash. At least, that's what I like to think...

  • @enigmachick826 again, its just my interpretation of it, doesn't mean its right, its just what I see when I watch it.

  • @TriFekt will you marry me? im not gay, but i might be gay for you. snoogans.

  • @TriFekt that's an interesting interpretation. i always thought this song was about how we as humans can feel so close to someone else even though we're only communicating through technology like a computer and the internet. how easy it is to make a connection, as well as how easy it is to also lose that connection.. and i've felt like this song touches on the latter part. how we feel when we lose connection with someone and it feels as if we have no place to go. like we're drowning in this sea.

  • @TriFekt probably the best description i've read so far (Y) you are a smart one an i give you my fucking respect haha :)

  • Deftones did 'Digital Bath' and these guys just had to go one better..

  • @Willificationify btw i saw deftones with thrice at taste of chaos! 2 of my favs in one. btw digital bath is about killing your girlfriend in the bath tub. pretty cool huh lol.

  • 43 Rebecca Black fans!

  • this is a great fuckin song but the video sucks!

  • Awsome video, it's one of the best I've ever seen. Thrice has the greatest music. The video really shows the extent of human greed, and the confusion lost in it.

  • Am I the only person who really loves the video?

  • @lucyandnyuuatonce no, you're not :)

  • @lucyandnyuuatonce no, it really is such a cool video. i love it too. but i remember the first time i watched it, i was a little bummed because i felt they couldve made something a lot cooler with it. something more obvious and dramatic, but then again, thrice doesnt ever do it that way, do they?

  • @lucyandnyuuatonce no i love this video too

  • These guys fuse styles flawlessly, no joke, check out all of their stuff. Aside from their early Metal-core stuff, poppy, but yet isn'tthat bad.

  • @goddimmus, i agree, the vid was kind a weaksause, but it was better than some dumb shit i've seen on the tube

  • This song is amazing but this video sucks. Im sorry it does.

  • thrice the band to play at Conan O'Brien spread the word

  • On every video the top comments have something to do with the dislikes. Its kinda gay.

  • SO THIS IS HOW GROCERY STORES WORK!! :D

  • @MonsterMonster13ohya Well, I don't think there are ever raves after hours, but maybe I was just never invited. :(

  • Great great song. Very Radiohead inspired. In fact, Thrice did say that they wanted to create something like 'In Rainbows' when they set out on this project. I love the contrast between the lyrics and the sounds. Best line 'my voice goes to ones and zeros'. describing that even his voice has to become digitised and how we are perpetuating it by listening. Genius!

  • something about this song..

  • @schelloma Yes, there certainly is! Something that makes me want a cocktail and a nice fire to cozy down to.

  • @schelloma its hypnotizing..puts me in a trance.

  • Thrice is so undervalued and thats why I love them. Favorite band no doubt.

  • such an un-serious music video for a serious song.

  • This whole album blew all of us fans away. From the soft acoustic, the electro, the heavy and the folk style...it definitely caught my ear. One of the great albums of the decade for me.

  • @joenic2791 you are so right. alchemy index still gives me chills and blows me away.

  • i love this. so. so. much.

  • the video response i just posted is a music video for thrice's for miles

  • Thrice's brilliant "Digital Sea" presents the very unique and interesting dynamic of a truly depressing song--lyric-wise--sounding so damn sensual with respect to its aural aesthetic and hence being utilized as an engaging mood setter and highly effective sex song despite its complete opposite lyrical content. --Me

  • It's a nice song. Not sure where Song of the Year comes from it, but it's better than most schlock on the radio, thats for sure.

  • disco party at a grocery store, fuck those get wild. especially in the cereal aisle.

  • Kinda reminds me of Atlantic but with some umff

  • This song is music changing for me. Wish more artists had depth like Thrice. This video however... Did not do this song justice for what is a work of art was not depicted in the video. Far to contemporary with one scene and camera tricks. This video deserved/needed/was expected to be as moving and comforting as the track but was not.

  • LONG LIVE THRICE

  • this song is so sick! Love the feel!

  • holy shit why does every comment on every fucking video HAS to HAVE that whiny little bitch justina? people comment on the band not that faggot please!!!!!!!

  • i love this song!

hey thrice fans, check out my drum cover of 'The Messenger'' on my channel :)

  • why would u pay 3mil for 99_Cent_II_Diptychon

  • I was looking at the list of most expensive photographs and I came across this image called "99_Cent_II_Diptychon". I immediately thought of the Digital Sea video, doesn't look like a coincidence.

  • one of my favorite songs. rock on dustin kensrue. man knows what he's doin.

  • this is an amazing video. please come to north carolina!!!!

  • wow amazing everything they make is a masterpiece

  • Travise Tyler Jackson

  • whats that guy in the second isle in the grey shirt doing at 3:06?

    Wonderful song!

  • To me beggars is a culmination of all their work so far taking the good bits from each of their past, there is something awesome in every thrice album though true music enthusiasts will likely find something about every album to like

  • This is undoubtedly great music . . . I don't think Thrice could make anything short of amazing. But, I do not think it's pure genius like Artist In The Ambulance and The Illusion of Safety. Still, props to them for exploring styles that are different from what they are used to. Most bands (like Metallica) just play the same style for their entire lives.

  • @Hellsiiing Not really every Metallica album sound different. Just compare Load to Kill Em All they are nothing alike.

  • @tonyAJ420 exactley dude metallica was originally thrash but there not now and have not been for a while...bands have to change according to age other wise they look like deuch bags, i keep telling every one this!!

  • @igunzOsick Metallica was never thrash, they were always just mainstream metal, it's also spelled "Douche". It's nice how you critisise people on how they spell when you can't even do that either.

  • @Brian12327 metallica wasnt thrash!? Your fucking retarted...seriously i have not read such a dumbass comment. you obviously have not listened to there old stuff. they started off as thrash, so fuck your dumbass self and dont speak those words ever again because you disrespect them with your neanderthall intelligence. and you said they were always just mainstream? they were never mainstream, metallica was always an underground band until recently, go post that on a metallica page, watch lol

  • @igunzOsick "there" should be their, "your" should be you're, and nice job on NEANDERTHAL. It doesn't even matter, an opinion is an opinion, I think they're garbage with just about most metal bands. But that's my opinion.

  • @Brian12327 ur retarted as fuck.

  • @igunzOsick How am I the one that's retarded?

  • @igunzOsick You're calling someone else retarded? you can't even spell the word right. dumbass.

  • god it would be a bitch to edit this thing

  • mmmmmmmh

  • Alexisonfire and Thrice.. Colaboration.. Make it happen..

  • good song.

so boring video. lake it was made ten years ago.

  • I absolutely love the song, but the video? Im so disapointed, every time I heard this song I imagined such beautiful and sureal things, and this is what I get, people dancing in supermarket aisles?

  • @ForgottenRabbit17

I can see your Point but somehow this isin my opinion a very good way to describe what i feel listening to it.

So i think it just depends on anyones taste

  • The Alchemy index was basically an attempt to make an indie folk/ambient electro/indie rock album. And it didn't do so well, neither fans nor critics warmed up to it. So they went back to their old formula on Beggars. What a shame too, I think the water, earth and air discs were their best work.

  • I think thats to special...Thrice is changing and they have changed, but they are still so...so powerful, so great, with such a deep feeling for every listener who has an ear for their songs. And what is so amazing: You can f.ex. say: Blink 182 sounds like...this band and this band and 100 other punk-bands...but Thrice...Thrice sounds like?...Youre right, Thrice, and nothing other.

  • I like to close my eyes and let the 1's and 0's wash over me. It's such a beautiful song.

I love the way Thrice constantly re-invent their sound and aren't afraid to try new things.

  • Simply amazing.

  • OI BIA

  • This song fits the concept of the album perfectly. In my opinion, this is fantastic.

  • My brother just saw these guys play recently.

    Luckyy kid.

    This song is amazingtude ;D

  • @InternalPeace93 I saw them live last year. I love Thrice but I have to say, they weren't that great when I saw them. Think they only played stuff off the new cd which nobody'd heard.

  • Love it

  • i loved the changes they have made.every album had something different to bring.lyrics were always strong.the alchemy index vol. 1-4 has to be the most amazing piece of work out there hands down to me it shouldnt matter how "soft" or "hard" they are.thats not what i look for in music.its easy for me to point out which ones are good or not because i keep my mind open and a wide range of music types

  • If you pay attention to the video, you see that what youre seeing is a dream filled with confused people, and in order to guide themselves, they need someone to help them escape a nightmare.

  • god what is this?

  • This band made a signifigant change for the better, the old Thrice was below average at best.

  • @LawofJudgment The old Thrice was just as beautiful as they have always been. They are creatively unrestrained and they are also really nice dudes to boot. Respect.

  • @LawofJudgment would you agree that you tube is just a vent for personal opinion to people who don't socialize or are never heard in actual everyday life?

  • Lol 40 people fucked Justin Beiber.

  • @kugatsuku did you literally laugh out loud from that comment?

  • @kugatsuku Lame.

  • @kugatsuku Your thinking about justin beiber getting fucked by 40 people? YOUR GAY! Stop being like every other faggot on youtube bringing his name up. You all are so jealous of a little gay kid who sings like a female. Hes obviously on your mind, but just remember this...Hate OR Love...ITS STILL an obsession.

  • @kugatsuku who gives thumbs up to these mindless comments..

  • @kugatsuku is that really laugh out loud worthy. no. no it is not.

  • I just thought, this video must have been a bitch to make, assuming they worked with stop motion photography

  • awesome!

  • Haha this was, acidentally, the first song of Thrice I heard and thought they would such music in general.

Now I must say that this sounds pretty awesome. Let's see what their other stuff is like...

  • everyone stop hating on this music. if you have such a strong opinion then you should know that this is only one of the four styles that put out during the alchemy index...jeeze if all you want is heavy then go check out fire otherwise shut the hell up already thrice has been changing on everyone of their albums

  • meh don't like this as much as the older stuff

  • everyone stop bitching, bands change. I like all their work. Learn to go with changes and just accept that THEY wanted to make this album and this change and get over it. Its good music, so whatever

  • Comment removed

  • @bergcycles1 This song is fucking Amazing. It's so Dark, and Meaningful. Just because it doesn't sound like their other stuff doesn't mean you should Bash it. Why don't you actually listen to it instead of comparing it to everything else they've done. Contact me when you have made something better? <3 :}

  • @bergcycles1 You are right they aren't radiohead because radiohead stinks so if you dont like this don't complain or compare keep it to yourself

  • They definately changed their sound a lot, but at least it wasnt a bad change. I mean, this is a great fucking song i used to listen to it everyday driving to and from college.

  • this sucks... riley is such an amazing drummer I can't stand to hear this drum machine crap from them....

  • Wow, those people are shopping in tune to the music.

IT'S ALMOST AS IF IT WAS EDITED THAT WAY

    :O

  • Just more water to fill my lungs... so, god... what IS it we have done? Because we're drowning... Slipping beneath the... onez and seros... No saving us now?

  • This Seriously was the 2008 Rock song of the year. Cause nobody expected this from THRICE. If you Agree, Hit thumbs Up.

  • @kyrokid21 That makes no sense. Why would a song that nobody expected be the rock song of the year? and why wouldn't you expect something like this from thrice? didn't you hear their album vheissu? if they went straight from artist in the ambulance to this, then i would understand half of your reasoning. and quit asking for thumbs up, like a needy little child.

  • @charger619c Let me explain to you sir. This was the first song that I ever really took seriously from Thrice because it was the first song I'd ever heard from Thrice. I just started to get into Artist in the Ambulance and Vheissu not that long ago. I said that purely out of not really know what or who thrice were. I know now am I stick to what I say. This song should have been on the top 15 song for 2008.

  • Its a very good thing they changed.

  • not liking the video, but i fucking LOVE the song.

  • Holy cow! Why is this video so awesome?!?!? Every time I watch it, it's freaking amazing to me...almost like it's the first time I'm watching it.

  • i love this song but it really only further influences my fear of the water

  • You can definitely hear the Deftones influence in this song...Both great bands

  • This is my favorite band hands down. I love how they can manage to have so many different sounds and still play great. Thumbs up for Thrice

  • This band is amazing. I like how they have so many different styles...

  • holy shit..

  • this video is so weird! whats this song about?

  • @enjoi4486 It's quite simple, the video is perfect, every item on the shelves is just binary code, 1's and 0's that belong to the digital age we live in, and this song describes being sucked into this sea, and we're just becoming 1's and 0's, it's dehumanizing us, and it's already true, we're not known by names in the world, we're known by numbers given to us, perfect example is our social security numbers, and license and registration.

  • @crunkmonkey305 jeez, thanks! that helped, and now i get the vid a little bit more, thrice is so unique, i don't think a band could make up something like that other than the clever minds of thrice!

  • @crunkmonkey305 this might be completely off but the way the items move on and off the shelves looks like the bars in an equalizer used for Digital recording.

  • I love this song and the band but can someone explain the vid?

  • The only songs I really like from Thrice is this, and The Whaler. But they're both really, really amazing!

  • if you like thrice check out my site and video

  • yeah....this fits the mood.

  • "and i wept but my tears are anathema here, just more water to fill my lungs"

    stellar

  • How can anyone not love this song?

  • I love how well read they are...

  • I love this new stuff, and their old stuff. but they've changed so much you almost have to love them for different reasons. keep in mind this is the water half of the alchemy index, the fire half is much harder and reminiscent of their old stuff. but this entire album in ingenious. i love it. "tangled in nets, instead of your arms wrapped around me"~ poetry....

  • And the ghost of Descartes screams again in the dark

"Oh how could I have been so wrong?".....

Descartes = Principles of Philosophy (1644), include the famous dictum "I think, therefore I am."

pure fucking genius .... i tip my hat to you thrice ... well done man well done ...

  • I agree, its perfectly normal for a post hardcore band these days to experiment with electronic songs and filler tracks involving such, it makes the listening experience more flavorful and interesting

  • this video makes no sense

  • i caught dustins guitar pick during this song :D

  • @shaythenative

Lies, what would a band that doesn't play rock anymore be doing with a guitar pick?

  • @AkagenoAdol exactly why he prolly threw it away plus they played dead bolt that night
