  • i notice how clean everything looks, no litter. sad how paisley is an eyesore these days

  • Brilliant

  • Great video !

  • What was the name of the company that ran the yellow buses?

  • @BigM1703 Grahams i think

  • Great video, brought back many memories. I left Paisley in 1973, so the timing of this takes me back to that era at least.

    Thanks.

BTW, my dad and uncle worked at Chrysler/Rootes in the '60's and now I work for Chrysler in Canada now.

  • Considering this was "Chrysler" or Rootes country, there really were not a lot of Hillmans, Chryslers, Singers or Sunbeams to be seen. I think I caught one or two but where are the Imps?! Interesting footage of a time gone by.

  • Great video, it sounds like your Mustang has a blowing manifold gasket. My memory of the 70's is having to dodge dog shit on the pavenment!

  • Thid video is class I drive these roads on a daily basis and like to spot the changes just wish there was more of renfrewshire rescently spotted sum from linwood on youtube.

  • it was an old ford mustang- left hand drive.

  • Yes, you are right. Thanks for your comment. You will notice the lack of cars on the streets and the lack of yellow lines! In those days there where much fewer cars on the road( and more people walking about on the streets too) than now. Things change slowly.

Chrysler bridge gone, and John Neilsons school, and linclive car garages.I had another video on the new motorway, to Glasgow but that's gone forever, cannot find it. Shame, as that too showed hardly any cars on the road.Cheers.

  • I think it must have been shpot in 1977. If you look in the compound at Goudies garage you can see a couple of Chrysler Sunbeams there which wouldn't have been around until 1977 at the earliest. The yellow MK1 Fiesta that is followed through the West End must also have onl;y been about 1 year old then.

It hasn't changed as much as I'd have imagined, but it does show Paisley as being far more clean and vibrant then, and not the run-down semi-derilect ghost town that the West end now is.

  • never seen paisley looking so clean , not like now with litter everywhere

  • Sad to see how it's a fucking wreck of it's former self now. And thats coming from a 21 year old. What a mess.

  • Absolutely incredible,. A wee time machine,( were you driving a delorean?) think transport museum would like this. I have been driving up and down this very same route every day for the past 23 years and work in Maxwellton road its amazing to see whats changed and how much is exactly the same.

Nice one, do you have any more? what were you driving by the way?

  • It's amazing how, at the start of the road after the Chrystler roundabout, so little has actually changed. The flats are still there. The only remarkable difference is that the High School (was it John Neilson ?) has completely gone. Amazing, thanks for the excellent footage!

  • Funny to see the top of Well Street area without all the drunks, moneylenders, drug dealers and junkies hanging about. That used to be a good area once upon a time.

  • thats kinna cool lol, ive walked thoughgs roads for 20 years and theres not that much difrence noticed till u see it infront of you

  • wierd to watch--I was there in 78 when I was 12--my uncle Jim rented a powder blue Ford Escort and I was driving it-mostly out of town-----I was looking for my Grans street in this video--Caussie Side????-I think its spelled-----Nice vid--brings back memories---thx for posting mate!!!!

  • Just stumbled upon this! Great memories and i was prb playing in Feegie Park at the time!!

  • Love this video as I grew up in Maxwellton road and played in the mill and surrounding areas. What a blast from the past mate. Great video. Wish you had more...;-)

  • Hi Jim,

Cheers for your email.Glad you enjoyed it mate.

The old chrysler bridge is there too.

Yes, those where the days. Hardly any cars on the road, you could drive fast!

  • Fantastic.... really brought back memories as I left Paisley in 1975. Recognised virtually all of the route, busy shops in the West End, the old ABC Cinima opposite Coats Memorial and then eventually out past Goudies Garage where one of my School mates used to work (now in Australia) in fact, just sent him a link to the video. Well done recovering from your old video recorder, however from the sound of your exhaust you may have better called in at Goudies for a new exhaust pipe at the time. Jim

  • At 1:29, is that coming on to Broomlands? My great grandfather (BLAIR) was at 33 Broomlands...Nice Video..I had a 66 Convertible Mustang......

    Regards,

    Dave Blair

  • love the film

great to see wots gone now, like the liptons garage at the bottom a the chain rd!

wish the car was a little slower lol so i could keep up!

wonder wot kind of car it actually was,i could hear the engine throughout the film!

cheers for sharing that little clip!

  • Eric was one of my apprentices,I used to give him a lift to work,I came from Barrhead and he came from uplawmoor.do you know what he is up to these days.

  • I knew a guy that worked there too, some time ago, about the same time as you. His name was Eric Richards.

  • I worked in goudies garage from 1974 to 1989,I was probably working on the workshop when this was filmed,it brings back memories

  • LOVE IT! Anyone remember Bruno's the Chippy?

  • @Rob4Yvo Yep,,loved it in there. We lived in Maxwellton road and went round most weeks. Sitting in was a big treat...lol

  • It's a real treat to see that as we left for Canada in 1978. It's just like it has been frozen in time for me. KUDOS!

  • Majic thanks..just a thought..good job they didney have speed camaras them days I figure u wid huv lost yer lience in the the first 5min of this video hahaha

  • @timaloh18888

Hi, Funny comment, and true! Yes,the trucks were also going about 50 miles an hour through the town, no speed cameras in those days as you say, but also a lot less cars! I had one film of the M8 through Glasgow as well, but that is gone I am sorry, there were no cars on the new M8 motorway either in those days.

    How times change eh?

  • Absolutely fascinating for those of us who know these roads. This was back in the good old days when it was seen to that the scum were kept in Ferguslie Park. The car wisely didn't venture down there.

  • @MrMeadfoot I have rattled the cage with the retard in it. Sook ma boaby Meadfoot ya nob-end. R.U. a feg (Ferguslie Park Resident) ?. Feegie (Ferguslie Park) should be levelled without evacuation of residents or visiting social workers. My comment kicks ass. Your comment sucks cocks in the bothy. Look at the number of wee thumbs up I have. You have F.A. This fact enables me to formally request that you GET IT RIGHT UP YE.

  • @thegenuineseer i live in ferguslie and i agree that 98% of houses in ferguslie including the scum that live here should be exterminated , they are all just 4th generation rats . ive had my windows broken since we bought our house new . that was at least 11 years ago .

  • @thegenuineseer the scum were kept down in the west end

  • @thegenuineseer Lol Ferguslie Park was the most crime ridden scheme in Scotland - even worse than the east end of Glesga so it wiz.

  • i am looking for pictures of the old queenmary plock in fergusley park i would love to see them i was brought up there i have been looking for pichers for years if any 1 has them pl download them my name is william dowd or email them to w.dowd@sky.com thank you

  • some amount of nice/normal people walking around paisley, now most of the pedestrians looks sub. 28 days later. shame.

  • Awesome video, weird how much Paisley has changed.

Awesome sounding Mustang, like music :)

  • paisley looks nice!! lol!! 77 was the year i was born.... in paisley driving is a bit dodgy tho.... always through the middle!!
