Though I've seen the Google Earth view numerous times, I had never realized before that it is a depression between surrounding hills instead of being a hill itself. Either way, it's not surprising that no one had ever noticed it from the ground.

I actually remember seeing this a couple of years ago, but I actually thought it was a known feature so I didn't mention it to anyone. I'm blown away that Google Earth has been used to discover something "new" in this way.
