  • I think there is a movie about this incident. I wana watch it again. but i don't even remember it's name.

  • it's Joyeux Noël~!

  • teacher showed us a document of that night and it waas awesuuum the soldiers played football after singing cristmas songs hehe nice ^^

  • Is that Kirby Heyborne? Anyone? Anyone?

  • Chills. I have chills.

  • Best Silent Night I've ever heard or seen! MTC always does a fantastic justice to everything!

  • great video. 4:37, did anyone else notice that is the guy from singles ward and the british guy from saints and soldiers?? lol

  • The "Mery christmas" spirit won in those days... Salute to the soldiers on both sides, They had the power, the spirit, to refuse all of the violence of their authorities at the Mary Christmas Eve 1914.

    Salute!

  • Even more special now that Walter is on the other side...

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I was on here, looking for Silent Night videos to share with my Family. My 3x Great Grandfather was Franz Gruber. We still have the (very) old Family Bible to read, but to hear the song in this context is amazing. Thank You.

  • My wife and I, with several friends, saw this performance at the Conferencs Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Walter Cronkite said afterwards that the Choir and the setting at the Conference Center was something he'll always remember, as will all of us the night of this program. Wonderful.

  • I was in a choir last year in which the men performed this arrangement. Every single time we rehearsed this song, it was all I could do to maintain my composure; I have never had as difficult a time singing as I did then. This song is so incredible, the chords and harmonies so fragile and moving; it does much to recreate in the mind of the listerner the sweet and tender atmosphere that surely attended that night over 2,000 years ago in a stable in Bethlehem, when our Savior was born.

  • i was born in muslim family . through this songs i knew jesus . thank you lord iam safed know . i pray many mualims meet jesus . like me......

  • Very touching, Brings tears to my eyes every time i watch this video

  • Oh wow!! So moving! Especially when the bass section comes in. So powerful! Stunning, amazing! I sound like a montage of critics in a movie trailer! Haha

  • This is beautiful! I am so blessed to have been born a Christian!

  • all i can say is amzing that only 38,000 people have watched what can teach us so much about not just religion but war and our selfs.this shoulde be requiered in every school maybe we woulde end the madness.

  • This is beautiful. May the good Lord bless those who seek for peace and happiness.

  • I was fortunate enough to see this performance on Temple Square. It was spectacular.

  • We r practicing this at school for a concert

  • Not gonna lie, I shed both tears of joy and sorrow at this. Joy for the transforming power of Christ's love, and sorrow that more people do not know about it.

  • This is such a beautiful story and told so lovingly - always brings tears to my eyes. If only the world could always find the peace and harmony of that night.

  • chills.....

  • all i wish is that we woulde lern from all of our mistakes.some day i hope but after 2010 years i am optomistic at best. This is so touching i woulde think it wouldetouch the wourld. But it only finds enough to keep us at war.some day will come i belive it will.

  • If only that's the way it really could be. No one would be lonely, hungry, or afraid. If the world was only as kind as this.....

  • I love curby!! (that's the actor whose playing the army man.)

  • Comment removed

  • I love The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints and The Blessings From living The Gospel Of Jesus Christ,It is soooo AWESOME

  • I love Jesus Christ

  • The second man could have a great singing voice. God bless England and America . Legends in their own right....

  • KIRBY!! ha haha ha ha!! As a Tommy!!

  • ruh

  • why was Walter Cronkite speaking in the beginning? he isn't Mormon.

  • He was a guest for the Christmas program. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has a large Christmas program annually and always invites a special guest to take part (e.g., The King Singers, Angela Lansbury, Walter Cronkite, etc.). Most of these people are not LDS (Mormon).

  • I also have family on both sides and I have heard my father talk about just such a truce in the trenches of the eastern front in WWII

I too lost it when the second 'soldier' sang Stille Nacht.

    What a wonderful video !!

  • It was ww1 german and english, And WC is telling a lie

  • hi, robconductor! it's almost christmas once again... and the story about this song is really very touching...thanks for this...could you (kindly) add a part 2 for this video? thanks...

  • I had family on both sides of the conflict. German and English. The only thing I found wrong with this presentation was that they showed American soldiers, they were not there until 1917, three years after the 1914 Christmas truce.

  • ang galing...nakakiyak...galing galing

  • Boy, this video really gives one many reasons to cry. First of all, the quiet, contemplative atmosphere in which the performance takes place. Secondly, the songs themselves. I'm German and when the other singer "replied" to the first singer with the German lyrics of "Silent Night", I lost it. And last but not least: The soothing, kind voice of Walter Cronkite. Now we're heading into the first Christmas season in which this is a voice of the past. I'm extremely sad that he isn't among us anymore.

  • I agree! That was an extremely touching moment for me too. Brought tears to my eyes the first time I saw it. You should have seen the first part- there was another song they sang in German and I think partly in English too. It was BEAUTIFUL!! Nothing but male voices. Just gorgeous! I wish someone would post part 1 :(

  • this video is very nice...i really like it...!

  • HEY! I know the French soldier! He's incredible and I know him!

  • i really love christmas!!!

  • One year since this vid was posted..

    =]

  • Bad news... walter cronkite just died :(

  • Goodnight Walter R.I.P!

  • The 23rd psalm is very beautiful.

  • The only thing I found wrong with this is that they show pictures of Americans when America did not enter the war until 1917.

  • I can't listen to this version of silent night without crying.....especially since they show the pictures of all those brave souls who fell during the war. The violinist is a tear jerker too.

  • it sounds so beautiful

  • I wish you'd post the whole thing so that I could show it to my family for Christmas.

  • Glory be to God Almighty, who can bring about peace in the middle of a war.

May He always surround His flock with the protection that only Heaven itself can offer.

May His flock always honor, glorify, and love the God who has blessed them with life everlasting.

  • When I was little my Mom used to sing "Silent Night" to me, before I would fall asleep( now I'm in my 40s ). This brings peace to my soul. THANK YOU!!

  • Is Walter Cronkite a Mormon?

  • I don't think so....just a nice vid,...the devotionals are always so nice.

  • no - but he has said as a boy he listened to the choir on the radio and it has always been a dream of his to do something like this

  • 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his names sake.

  • 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

  • the heavenly music of the Mormon Tabernacle choir and their associates.

There is much good in the world!

  • Beautiful, I'm sorry that the whole thing couldn't be posted.

  • ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! GO MORMONS!!!

  • Simply beautiful, thank you for posting.
