@philsown While, admittedly, the vocals leave something to be desired you have to take into account that this is a group of 117 untrained girls who had 3 weeks to learn the music for a 10 minute song and all of the motions that go with it. I think it is pretty incredible that two college age girls chose, taught, choreographed, and directed this song for a group of 117 of their peers in just 3 weeks.
@Dncrchk43 the vocals leave something to be desired?! Like you said, these girls had 3 weeks to prepare...They are completely awesome, they did a spot-on performance
Since Hope is a small private college most of you who criticize the yelling and cheering do not realize this is basically a sporting event, cheering is expected. Its a big competition of class pride between the even and odd class years. GO EVEN YEAR!!!!
I would like to point out that Nykerk is not a formal choral competition. I am part of the 2014 song, and cheering is completely appropriate for Nykerk. We are not rednecks, the people clapping are being supportive. Some of the moves are tradition and Nykerk alumni who are watching cheer when a traditional move is performed to show their support. If you do not fully understand what Nykerk is, you should not criticize it. This is Nykerk in its finest and it is awesome to be a part of it.
It's a Hope College tradition guys! It's meant to be about building community and having fun, not necessarily about how hard the medley was. You don't have to like it, but just understand where it comes from. It's not about one-upping the other class, it's about getting people together to see a tradition and just have fun
And yes, we're white lol. Hope College kids are Dutch for the most part
@musicRachel09 I'm sorry, I meant no offense. I know not everyone in Nykerk is white I was just responding to another comment on the most common race of this choir
I would have enjoyed watching these kids if it wasn't for the loud mouth that was video taping it. I can't sit here and watch something with someone screaming every 3 or 4 seconds. Apparently these people are pretty redneck since it is beyong rude to applaud (or CAT-CALL) during the middle of a show. Waste...
@ssdooey it's OK to cheer...there are certain things that we do, yes, I'm in this, that warrants cheering and applauding. Not all choral performances are super formal and strict.
Well done, but too bad the audience thinks this requires cheering as if it were a sporting event. The performers work too hard to be drowned out by wild screaming and whooping, which has no place at a concert like this. The director should lay down the ground rules at the beginning and establish a bit of audience etiquette.
@brofga As A Hope College grad, I can tell you that cheering is part of the competition! The audience is encouraged to cheer throughout the song for parts they like. The competition is a long-standing Hope College tradition, and it is not really a concert. Audience etiquette calls for cheering!
@rachellenauta Now that I've learned that this was a competition, and not a concert, I stand corrected regarding my previous comments. My daughters all participated in chorus, and fortunately, etiquette points were announced at the beginning. Other concerts I've attended were ruined with boorish behavior. Seeing your point about this being a contest I applaud the group. I also think the performance would be well accepted in a formal concert as well. Good job to all
Well Done! I'm not one for watching clips of class performances, but this one was executed with much cleverness.

I'd love to know how they managed the props.
I can't remember the last choir I saw though that appears to be completely Caucasian though. O_0.

seriously. did they turn their gloves inside out that whole time they had them behind their backs??? the logistics of this must have been insane.
vocals were merely decent, but the performance was astounding.
