@bugstrut Sorry, bugstrut; I can see how I was somewhat ambiguous with the use of the verb "sample". However, I was using the old school meaning, and I just played it on youtube.
Well, according to the liner notes, between his upright and the amplifier are three different effects: First, his signal is fed into what I think is a Maestro G-2 Rhythm 'n' Sound (someone has a youtube video of the Maestro G-1 to give you an idea of one of these units in action), then into a Maestro boomerang, and then finally into one of those old echoplex machines...
What's interesting about the echoplex, from what I understand, is that the echo was created by an actual tape reel in the device itself, where the distance between the play and record heads determined the duration.

Heavy vox distortion of sorts guitar...but analog bass stations give up similar synths
