@ralph5407 6201 has been doing the best of all UK Mainline steamers this year!
I think she and 6233 made for a great "pairing" last summer. I think 6233 would have filled 5305 shoes perfectly. 5305 is not the type of locomotive that One would think pulling the Cumbrian. Engines like the LMS 6200's and BR 70000's handle this territory much better. I would also say the same for 46115. Thats just my opinion for what it was worth.
@Mikelandscaper Whilst 5305 is a good performer she does have the load limitations and usually takes 10 coaches whereas the pacifics take 12 with ease.
@TAMWORTHFAN Thanks very much, regarding 46235, I believe the chances of her ever getting out are very remote. We just have to be thankful that PRLCT are able to keep 6233 alive and running.
Slowing down at Preston acause of the hospital on the hill to the left as you come out of the station, yes? Something like that I seem to recall. Not that I was ever on this line more than a couple of times and that was more years ago than I want to think about (!)
@ralph5407 Well it'll remain a mystery. Certainly not a new thing. Forty or fifty years ago same story struggling on that line out of the station there. Maybe there was a bad accident (1960-ish) with an express crossing over onto the nearside track and for steam engines the restriction remains. Think there used to be a signal box on the left and sidings track running off to the left where the new buildings are today. Someone will tell us in due course, surely?
Real cracker of a video, mate. Woooooof. Nearly ten minutes of top notch BUZZ. Glad ye injoyed yer day oot (ah think ah will need tae go fur a lie doon efter thur .................).
Nice, i bashed the windows both ways after warrington going. Bloody pendo got in the way at Wigan for me to get a shot of my friend who was atthe end of the platform, Cant beat lancaster coming down though,Breathtaking
Cheers Steve, don't forget as Bill said to me once before, he can only get a loco to perform well if the fireman is up to the job. On this occassion Frank was in charge but it's likely that Simon did most of the work.
That's a superb record of the day Ralph, and that on-board footage was breath taking, so thanks for allowing me to share part of this special day with you...5* Bob
Yes Bob it was a great day, glad the onboard worked as well as it did, but that 9 minutes 45 secs is only the best bits from 45 minutes of footage taken on the day.
Sorry Bob but the other stuff is just more out of the window with nothing much happening, sound not very good. I usually find that about 75/80% ends up in the bin, quality just not good enough.
looks like we all had a good day out, think my mum enjoyed herself as well. tryin to talk her into going with me again. im still editing just done part 5 still got tornado at crewe on sunday to do yet
That was awesome footage of an awesome journey, Ralph. Her ladyship performed brilliantly throughout and your video captures this perfectly. Thanks for sharing - Frank.
I can't wait for this ladies return next year. She was sorely needed in Crewe this summer.

That is one magnificent machine-just hope one day 46235 will emerge from that fishtank in Birmingham and have another crack at Shap.

@hildibildibaldi I don't think the presence of the hospital is any reason to slow down, Pendos go through there a lot quicker that we did.
