  • Nice review!! just a little sharing, I do agree that paint pot give a pop of the shadow color, but doesn't stay all day. I have creasy lid, so paint pot doesnt work well on me.

  • I like painterly colorwise for me but somehow it creases like mad on my lids

  • Thanks for a review! I'm still debating on which one should I get painterly or soft ochre since they both are neutral so I'm kinda confused so far.

  • @BeautifulAndB0red soft ochre is more yellow based and painterly is more pink based- I hope that helps!

  • Great video! Unfortunately Painterly didn't work well for me because although it matched my skin tone, my eyelids are on the red side and it just looked muddy. My lids are also textured and a bit wrinkly as I approach 51 yrs old. Should I try paint pot in soft ochre? I want something on the creamy side with NO shimmer and that will neutralize my discolered. Mac paint in bare canvas is too shimmery for me.

  • @pensivern the paint pots wil have the same texture- I would suggest something like Laura Mercier Eye base- it is more moisturizing

  • I had painterly I found it was too bland for me. It was plain! If you want to accentuate your eyes get bare study if you want more golden toe go for rubenesque

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH I HAVE BEEN APPYING IT OVER MY URBANDECAY AND NO PROBLEM WITH THE CREASING SO FAR. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE INFO AND GETTING BACK TO ME. HOW IS MARRIED LIFE TREATING YOU. XOXOLYNETTE3232

  • Hi Lisa! Thanks for this helpful review =)

I have a question though: I have olive skin tone and my upper lids are more brownish/purplish than greenish/bluish. Since I'm purchasing my paint pot online, I don't know which one would work best for me! Would it be painterly or soft ochre? THANK YOU!

  • @angelsafa I think soft ochre would be better- painterly is very pink undertones

  • THANK YOU LISA I JUST BOUGHT THE PAINT POTS AND HAD NO CLUE OF HOW TO USE THEM AND I DO NOT WANT IT TOO CREASE ON MY LID. I LIKE THEM ALOT. SO IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS FOR THE CREASING COULD YOU GET BACK TO ME. THANK YOU XOXOLYNETTE3232

  • @lynette3232 I would suggest using a very light hand and I apply them with a 217 brush from MAC or something similar- the more youo put on the more it might crease

  • urban decay dries out its no good, the tube version is better , i heard paint pots dry out, but not sure, will have2 try them out

  • I love this primer, it's much much better than the Urban Decay one, and cheaper! :) Stays on all day long.

  • wow your hands are really .... shaky LOL liquid eyeliner must be a pain in the ass for you haha

  • Ive only been doing makeup for about 5 years now, but if you use a "warm" undertoned primer such as painterly, and you use blues overtop is that going to neutralise the warm undertones to the paint pot (science says it should).

Just makes me think if I want my blues/greens to stand out more, to use something of cool undertone to prime.

Is my method of thinking even close to correct?

  • @LishaMakeup that makes sense to me- sounds right!

  • Whats the difference between pain points and cream colour bases?

  • @stachiano cream color bases are more oily and dont stay as well.

  • Can i know whether the mac paint pot is long lasting? Staying power wise? And does it crease after certain time?

  • @Lemonzs it depends on your eye lids if you have oily lids - they stay fine for me but my lids are not oily. If they are oily they creasse and dont stay

  • I wish you would have talked about the finish after it drys and if there is creasing and if you need a primer under a paint pot.

  • i hate how you say youtubers haha...

  • now urban decay switched their packaging. So now it's in more of a convenient tube.

  • i might sound verry stupid bud whats the difference between just a concealer and a primer ? i just pud coancealer allover my eyes please tell me :(

  • @rini12309 a concealer hides your blemishes, dark circles, and red spots. and a primer helps your make up stick on better so it wont crease and rub off. it preps your face too. hope that helped! :)

  • @rini12309 concealer can have oils in it and can crease! :o) Primers should not crease and help the shadows stay on longer and be true to color.

  • actually if you look on Urban Decay's website you can get the primer potion in a tube like two face shadow ensurence

  • @pinkiecupcakes47 they just came out with that. for the longest time, you were only able to buy it in the bottle.

  • sephora eye primer is really good 14 bucks and just blends without color

  • sorry just a correction - in your description box you said one of the paint pots is called soft oaker, but it is spelled soft ochre!

  • Are these paint pots good as a dupe for primer

  • @HollisterGirlsx2 they are really cream shadows, if you have dry to normal eye lids they can but if you have oily ones they will not work as a primer

  • can u just use your fingers to apply it???

  • @IH3ARTN30N yes you can

  • i was 13 ish when i got mi first paint pot, and the lady at the store never mentioned to me it was an eyeshadow primar but an creme eyeshadow. so i bought paintrly and a brown one. They are way to dark for me >.<

  • @rosemakeup1 u can also wear them just by themselves and not as a primer!

  • my hands are shaky too... no worries

  • whats the best paint pot that has a light pink undertone?

  • @blondchick4 girl friendly or fresco rose are good ones

  • i don't know why.. but the paint pots crease on me... i have no idea why... i love the too faced shadow insurance, i haven't tried the UDPP :D i want to try it out

  • painterly is nowhere near my skintone and i wear it very well. So it doesnt have to be close to your skin tone atall.

  • could you do a rubenesque paint pot review? :)

  • @leslieluvsyou3 I dont own that one- sorry!

  • which do you prefer: two face shadoe insurance or paint pots?

  • @peacegolucky I prefer urban decay primer potion

  • what is difference with mac paints and paint pots? and does the bare study have the shimmer, i was told that is similar to the urban decay sin ?

  • @AngeLEyes8100 they are different packaging. I like paint better because they dont dry out. yes bare study has shimmer. I dont own sin so I cant comapre it sorry

  • Omg The funny thing about this is that I was look at video like this so I favorite ur video and the I went to MAC to get a paint pot and got the same color lmao..,

  • Does this prevent creasing?

  • @fallin4uslowly no it is more of a colored base than a primer

  • What the price of this product ? :)

  • @Thechocolat123 I think aroudn 18 USD

  • @Lisasz09 Thank You ! :D

  • You should really use your finger to apply Painterly. It warms the product to make it blend better onto the skin.

  • I'm interested in purchasing Painterly and Bare Study paint pots but I am concerned with the fact that I will not use them ALL the time and I don't want to waste them if they dry out. My question is, do they dry out quickly? About how long do you believe the last for? Thanks

  • @andrea7Xo I would say buy one at a time because they do dry out and store them upside down and make sure the lid is on tight!

  • your make up looks so great here girl.

  • What shade are you in MAC products

  • @LuluLust97 they say I am NW 30 but it never matches me and I dotn wear their foundations anymore- they break me out!

  • painterly vs stila's new prime pot..looking forward to the review.

  • @srvsgal I dont own teh stila one but if I pick it up I will be sure to review it

  • I love My primer, it comes in a pump bottle, so handy.

  • Thats the biggest non-plasma television i have seen in years! joke.... i miss my old tv... great video :D

  • Now Urban Decay has a squeeze top bottle for primer potion for $29.00. It's on their website as the "Professional Size."

  • I hate painterly paint pot I prefer and love too faced!!!!!! It is the best ever base for me!!!

  • i have super oily lids. which primer would work best on me?

  • @brainshutdown either Urban decay or Michael todd

  • I bought a mac paint pot : Bare Study. So far i love it. I have a light skin tone with yellow undertones. The paint pot works amazing as a everyday eyeshadow for me. Being 16 and in high school i Don't always have time to do my makeup. Especially before i go to work at the doctors office. This is so easy and looks great! xoxo. :)

  • ugh I bought this and HATE IT! it's drying and it doesn't do any good for my shadows!!

  • I love your eyes!

  • I just bought this and I want to make sure I'm storing this correctly so I get my $s worth......... Some people have shown it stored upside down (I guess to keep it from drying?) and I was wondering if you had problems with it drying or if you do that , too ?

  • @xBeautyyyx I have tried all different ways- the key is to make sure you seal it super tight! :o)

  • are those sharpies in the back? yay i love office supplies =)

  • @sugarcrazy1025 yes! :O)

  • great vid babe. very informative. i so subbed. and im loooving the walllllll teehee. ok ima check out ur other vids. xoxo from south texas.

  • the paint pot is a eyeshadow base is it? cause i have the prep & prime eyeshadow base but it tends to crease after few hours. :(

  • @Lemonzs it is not a primer it is a colored base. If you have trouble with creasing try Urban Decay Primer Potion.

  • @Lemonzs I went to the MAC store the other day to buy the prep and prime, but the lady there suggested the paint pot instead ... so far I used it with ordinary drugstore eyeshadows, and it did not crease at all

  • Any trouble with paint pots drying out? I find that mine dry out after about 6 months even when I close the lid tightly. Any tips on how to save them and keep new ones from doing this?

  • @kguil019 I have had some seperate from the container but they are still moist

  • i love your video on u tube you speak very well and i had just bought some paint pot by mac today in reno ,nevada and wondered how to use it..thanks how about mac glitter how does this hold on eyelid please let me know

  • @escaladelife2009 I put it on with my fingers or a brush- you only need a small amount!

  • Great video! Btw what do you think about using finger instead of the brush when people apply their paint pot? Thaxxxx:)

  • @clair0228 yes I have - but it is smoother with a brush! :o)

  • What exactly are the paintpots for? Where do you use them? x

  • @20UFC93 you can use them as an eye base and a color base for eye shadow!

  • Great video ... but now i'm confused.I want to know if pain pots make eyeshadows stay longer. could you help me ?

  • @Sheccyd1 @tori0083 gave a great response!

  • @fayolajayden you can use it as a base or primer so that when you use any eyeshadow color, the color will pop, it'll reflect or bring out the color, as with our skin tone it obsorbs the color...take a look at this video from a youtube makeup artist named "scandalousbeauty" 'Smouldering Satin Taupe Smoky Eye-Highly Requested!' and another video 'Dark Skin Makeup Rant' where she discusses using painterly paint pot

  • now i am confused...yesterday i bought a primer base in a pot liek urs from MAC but its very light and i am dark african american..was i misguided? can it still work?

  • @fayolajayden it depends- you will have to try it to see- they are basicly colored shadow bases- not a primer. I hope it work for you.

  • Comment removed

  • @PilarJustine yes I do it can help with color pigmentation and it can help with staying power depending on how oily your lids are- they dont crease on me but I have heard others say they do with oily lids!

  • Paint pots dry up sooooo fast! Does this happen to you? If so, what do you do? I seriously get like a handful of uses with it before it dries up. Thank you.

  • @technina23 I have only had 1 dry up fast and it is one I use all the time so I think I open and closed it more that the others and the air that is stuck inside dried them out!

  • I have never purchased anything from MAC before so when i went i asked where they had their eye primers they referred me to this paint pot panterly , and i was just looking on the MAC website and found that panterly is a paint pot not an eye primer. Was I misguided or can I still use this as an eye primer?

  • @Rosio639 it can be used as a primer as long as your lids are not to oily. I use them alone and have no issue. Good Luck!

  • so basically mac's panterly paint pot can be used as an eye primer?

  • @Rosio639 yes depending on how oily your lids are- if they are oily urban decay primer is better!

  • Do you use a brush(if so, what kind?) to apply painterly or do you just use your finger?

  • @mabobik yes I use a 217 brush! :o)

  • Are paint pots drying on your lids?

  • @broadwaygirl2 I dont have any issues with it!

  • So which do you think is better in terms of creasing, Painterly or TFSI? Thanks!

  • @AlasseM TFSI or UDPP! :o)

  • what do you think about barestudy paint pot? a review would be great!

  • @hushQuiet I actually dont own bare study- sorry!

  • could u do a review on girl friendly paint pot?

  • @Awsomeness1997 I am not sure if I own it but if I do I will add it to my list!

  • so does the painterly paint pot hold eyeshadow all day?

  • @emilydianec it does for me but some people still need a primer before like Primer Potion

  • Do you use UDPP under paintpots?

  • @speciallkass yes I do! :o)

  • great video thanks

  • MAC paintpots aren't actually meant to be primers, they are colored bases/cream eyeshadows..paint pots actually crease a lot more than UDPP so i wouldn't recommend to use it as a primer

  • great video!! i love this paint pot so creamy! <3

  • this was helpful :D

  • I read that 'painterly' is the only colour without shine.

  • soft oaker is also a matte finish!

  • Thanks. Can't wait to get some! Painterly is probably my colour too.

  • Just ordered Painterly online (and a 217 brush) as they're offering free shipping here in France! Funny how a little order like that can make you so excited!

  • Great review ;) my next mac brush will definitely be the 217!!!

  • TFSI and UDPP aren't really color correcting, I am interested in one of the paint pots soft ochre or painterly but I have a soft beige skin tone and am worried soft ochre will look too sallow and painterly too pink..do you think soft ochre will be too yellow for subtle beige skin tone?

  • I think soft ochre would be better than painterly! :o)

  • Painterly paint pot is like my holy grail eyeproduct. Great review :)

  • Im really considering in investing in a paint pot, and I was wondering whats the best neutral coloured paint pot that has little to no shimmer? I dont know if you said if painterly has shimmer in it or not :( I was thinking of either painterly or soft ochre?

  • Either will work if you are more of a pink undertone then painterly if you are more yellow than soft ochre

  • I recently got Painterly, and i noticed that after 5-6 hours my eyeshadow starts to crease... How do I prevent that? they told me at MAC that it's supposed to last for 8-10 hours.

  • Paint Pots are a base not a primer- if you have oily lids - in order to keep it on longer you need a primer under it like urban decay primer potion or two Faced shadow insurance! :o)

  • I bought painterly but it looks almost peach on me or something .. i think the soft ochre would work better but i will still keep painterly for when i do darker bronze looks .. what do you feel about bare study?

  • the only issue i have with bare study is that it is very shimmery!

  • Hi Lisa,

This is the correct spelling Soft Ochre. You spelt soft oaker.

  • What are the paint pots for Do u use it instead of the primer?

  • They are basicly cream shadows, you should use a base first like Urban decay and then the paint pot- some people can wear the Paint Pots alone (I can) and they dont crease! :o)

  • what was the name of the PP that you couldn' t pronounce now i'm curious haha.

  • Constructionvist!

  • Hi Lisa, love your videos!! :) :)

In your opinion what color bright up the eyes more painterly or soft oaker? I'm asking because you always bright up your eyes in such a beautiful way!!

Thx so much for your answer!!!

  • it really depends on your skintone, but for me painterly works best! :o)

  • Lisa, I bought (finally) the Painterly Paint Pot based on your review, at first I didn't like it at all I have oily eyelids and strangely it dried my lids way too much UNTIL I tried it with 217 I love it now THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU...

  • Your reviews are the best! Thank you,,. You are really pretty. I have the shakey thing too, I enherited it from my dad.xx

  • Great review.. I can't wait to get my paint pot in painterly. What color do you use in MAC MSF?? Are you a medium plus or medium dark??

  • I am medium in MSFN! :o)

  • OK, so I took the plunge yesterday and went to MAC, and I actually bought some stuff, including the Painterly Paint Pot, and I was impressed at the prices - not as bad as I thought. I will go back and buy more soon!

  • Comment removed

  • hi lisa would you say that paint pot can cover any lid discoloration ? thanks

  • yes it will! :o)

  • great review but i would have liked to see you talk about the staying power on each and if they crease or not and which do you recommend because i would like to know if any of those are worth buying. thanks.

  • I still think either the two faced or the urban decay are the best basic for staying power! :o)

  • thank you for your reply. i finally got the paint pot and i tried it out and i put it on my bare lid with out UDPP and.... it creased =(( i tried one eye with a brush and one eye with a finger and ugh... no difference because they both creased. am i applying it wrong or is it just the product? lol idk but i really wanted to love this product.

  • Some people have trouble with them on their eyelids if theya re oily. I have never run in to that issue- have you tried it with UDPP first? maybe that will help! Sometimes I do that with the colored ones! :o)

  • im gonna get a paint pot but im gonna get rubenesque :) thanks!

  • TWO FACE EYE PRIMER or even URBAN DECAY IS GREAT!!!

  • I really like the way you talk..

Not so much words you put in your sentence..

    Easy to understand..

And guess what? I've subscribe to you!!!

Check my videos when you're free..

    Take care..

    xoxo,

    Wiwit from Singapore

  • I also got this today..my very first MAC product along with the Fluidline in Black Track. I can't wait to try it in the morning. Thanks for your great reviews!!

  • i just got it today and i love it! thank u! =-D

  • hi can any one help me please i want to get an eye primer at a durgstore does anyone no which is good and what durgstore should i go to

  • loreal de crease is really good- I have a review coming up on it soon!

  • Just wanted to say good review. However, I disagree that when choosing a paint pot, it has to be close to one's skin tone because paint pot double as an eyeshadow. I am African American (brown skinned) and I LOVE painterly. I use it mainly for color boosting, but sometimes, I use them in smokey looks or on its on. I wanted to say this because often times African American women may feel limited in color choices, the beauty of our skin is that we can wear many colors and look wonderful.

  • can painterly be used on its own? (i'm very pale)

  • sure you can use any paint pot pwn their own! :O)

  • is tis matte or shimmer?....

  • painterly is matte! :o)

  • You know think of it, it might not be the paint pot but for some weird reason I have very dry and flaky eye lids so weird right...BTW I think you're great!

  • You should try a emolient primer like clarins instant touch primer or try a moisturizing concealer as a base! I hope one of these work for you! :o)

  • I feel like the paint pots dry my eye lids...

  • aww that is a shame! :o( I hope you find something you like then!

  • I think paint pots are drying to my lids too.....and urban decay stings my lids. I just got a DDF eye cream from sephora that is great on my lids and under my eyes. They gave me a sample. I think it's spendy though. .5 oz. is $48.

  • You should do your own primer! just use foundation and body butter and mix them up. and you're set. :D

  • the problem with this is one it will make your lids oily but two it can crease whether you have oily lids or not but i does work for some people :)

  • K thank you anyway!:)

  • how long does the paint pots usually last for?
