You are almost right Yellowbull. In a v the 12 cylinders are divided in to two banks of 6 that are in a row. In a w12 the cylinders are still divided 6 and 6 but instead of in a row they are staggered in a w like formation. The advantage of this is you get a significantly shorter engine block freeing up more passenger room.
w12 - mean that instead of 12 cilinders displaced in the form of a "v" there are two v6 togheder forming an "w12".Just like the veyrons w16, which are two v8's.
