Ever notice how Stevie's harmonic sense seems to parallel Brazilian harmonies? Those split second visits in major and minor, those suspended tensions. If the guitar part was played by Stevie on the keys with a Clavi or Rhodes sound I think we would hear it more transparently. I don't care about conversations about petty stealing (everyone musician influences and is influenced) but it is interesting to note the parallels.

Here's exactly what happened in this meeting: They played one full "Chorus"; the entire structure of the composition. @ 0:57 (the "2nd ending") Stevie gets lost so he dropped out & let Gilberto take over at the "Bridge", then re-enters when the verse comes back around. @ 2:04 they "vamp" or "jam" on the I & V chords till the end of video.

@afib Stevie (one of my biggest influences & favorite musicians) does pretty well here but it's clear he doesn't fully know the song inside-n-out (he even gets a lil' lost on the arrangement). The tune has a very complex chord structure. So, I'm not surprised Stevie is reluctant to jump in on the piano to contribute an accompaniment.

@ramsesneilsoto NO you're wrong, I'll explain. Like most songs, there's a specific FORM to this compostiion. When a musician performs it, they follow the "chord progression" in it's unique order; this is how the composer intended the song to be interpreted. There's a structure that must be followed or there will be a train-wreck. Stevie screwed-up on the "2nd ending" which segues into the "Bridge". That's why he dropped out & let Gilberto re-establish they're location at that particular moment.
