Also, at 0:54, you can actually see him think and "work" on the note. And, one doesn't even need to "listen carefully" to hear the backing singers are terribly singing out of tune.

To those who are saying he is lip synching. No, he is singing live but most people are so used to lousy singers (nowadays) who can't carry a tune so it is, reasonably, assumed that when someone sounds THIS tight, they too must be lip synching. He isn't here but he is in a few other videos on Youtube. Listen carefully at 3:22 and you can hear and see the moment where the harmonising occurs with the backing singers. Also, he is relaxed and not struggling to keep up with the recorded voice.

Finally! I've been combing these live performances to find one where he's singing live and I've found it. The backing singers are struggling a bit but ol' George is like a singing machine. What a gorgeous voice. The song makes me tear up everytime I hear it. The words describe such a feeling of relief for the person singing them that it's hard to describe "why" it is so emotional - happiness and memories of being scared of allowing the "amazing" in again, I suppose.

Anyway lipsyncing is one of his favorite things to do and he is good at it! so singing with the record just adds stereo surround I believe. lypsyncing is allowed out of 30 years of busting your ass touring and giving all you got!

This is another time where GM was actually NOT singing LIVE. He had a cold, very similar to on American Idol, but since this was the 1st release from CD he had to sing it. Harder to sing LIVE. He did in concert that I saw 3 times and was fine.

I played (well mimed) guitar for GM on this performance - He was definitely singing live - ALL the vox were live - everything else was mimed(lip-synched) to you American cousins- sorry you'll have to take my word on it.. it was quite a thrill at 8 AM to have GM singing live in the earpiece we were wired up to - my 15 mins or fame- there you go!

I think George is still a very handsome and very sexy man. He definitely has aged. You can tell by the lines in his neck, but aging is something we can't control. We will all age. The ony thing we need to do to accomplish this is to keep living. What is more important than his appearance is his sheer talent. He has amazing vocal ability and is a fantastic "live" singer. In his old videos he relied on a lot of fancy dance moves. Now that he's older, he lets his voice/songs do all the work

I believe what is going on for this performance is actually a combination of live & lip syncing... this is usually do to production issues (accustics, cost of back up orchestra, etc.). What happens is that they play the recorded version and he sings over it (live). Having seen George perform live... I can assure you that he really IS that Good.
