Installing an Optical Drive in a Power Macintosh G4 (Mirror Drive Door & FW800)

Thanks for the video. It helped for a trouble free installation. I replaced my original Apple drive (because it was not reading DVDs) with a OWC Lite-On super drive. The only step where I hesitated was the bezel; not to pull it off outward, but upward.

One thing that puzzles me. Why put the old drive in the bottom slot? And reconnect the cables? The front lower door on the G4 does not open.

@visvaldisX The lower optical drive bay door on the Mirrored Drive Door models certainly should open. A second optical drive was a factory option.

Someone gave me an old G4 Mirror Drive Mac and it had the old 2X SuperDrive in it. Ugh! I went to Micro Center & bought an LG IDE Super Multi Lightscribe drive. I followed the directions in this video and Voila! I have a new Dual Layer DVD drive running in the old G4. I didn't put the older drive back into the G4, I'll probably just sell it on eBay or Craigslist for 5 bucks. Thanks for the video!
