Professor Hawking is not a great physicist, he is one of the greatest physicist's of all-time. I imagine there is life elsewhere in the Cosmos but the chances of there being intelligent life are astronomical. It took 14 billion years for us to get here and there are no signs we're here to stay.
Einstien said that nothing could exceed the speed of light, his equations proved this, however they only denied acceleration beyond the speed of light, other things like wormhole theory and quantum entanglement were denied by his own bias and nothing more. FTL travel is possible as long as it remains inside the laws of general relativity

You would set up receiving pods all though out the universe then you can beem anyone to any receiving pod so after many generations of road work in space you would have like a highway that can take you anywhere.
