Rome Adventure has special meaning for me as I saw it in Syracuse the night before I enlisted (6-6-62) in the Army. The next day, with less than $5 bucks in my pocket, I headed for Fort Dix with dazzling images of Rome in my mind. Less than two years later I rode my rented Vespa to Piazza Navonna, the featured location in the movie. I can't describe how thrilled I was to be a 21 year-old American visiting such a romantic spot.

Rome Adventure has special meaning for me as I saw it in Syracuse the night before I enlisted (6-6-62) in the Army. The next day, with less than $5 bucks in my pocket, I headed for Fort Dix with dazzling images of Rome in my mind. Less than two years later I rode my rented Vespa to Piazza Navonna, the featured location in the movie. I can't describe how thrilled I was to be a 21 year-old American visiting such a romantic spot.

I first heard this song when I was very young, but the melody has remained with me all these years later. Simply beautiful! Lyrics, voice,music what else can I say? They sure don't write or sing them like this any more.What garbage we have today. No wonder this once great country of ours is going to hell. All you rappers out there listen to this song and hear what talent is and what class is you idiots.

@MsCarole73, You are so right about this being a great song. However, you are wrong in assuming that all rappers are idiots. That trait is spread pretty even among the world's groups. Therefore, artistry that we like or don't like comes down to a simple matter of taste.

Troy Donahue made some of the great movies of the 60's, Parrish, Rome Adventure, et al, and was a big movie star at Warners...this romantic movie had the perfect song in Ai Di La...memories of a time past, lovely time.
Natalie Wood refused this movie and the role went to Suzy Pleshette. Soon
Troy Donahue and Suzanne Pleshetter were a romantic item and later married.
Troy was a big big star and after he left WB his life and stardom fell apart.

This song is breathtaking. The movie was also one of my favorites. Troy Donahue was every girl's idol, and Suzanne Pleshette was simply beautiful. Two great performers are gone but left us with many memories. RIP both of you.

I am a Japanese, over 60. The Japanese title of this movie was " how to make passes " , which must have let people have wrong impression about it. However, the song gained fantastic popularity among the young. The melody really takes me back to more than 40 years ago; the shining days of my life. The song was much sung at many lets-sing-songs coffee shops.

AL DI La is one of my all time favorites. It really brings back memories. I wish I knew if the club is still there and where it was filmed. I will be going to Italy again this summer and would like to find it.

I learned what romance was when I saw the movie and listened to this song.. when I grew older, and started working, I bought myself a Vespa, I was so young then. God..! wish I could go back to that.

This favourite song of mine was in the film "Rome Adventure" made in 1962. It starred Suzanne Pleshette and Troy Donahue as the couple who fall in love with each other, and with magical Italy. If you Google the film name you will be able to read all about it.
