as a staunch monarchist living in australia, i was shocked when i came back to Britain, after more than a decade of Labour Government i thought i had arrived in a third world country with a ruined economy, mass immigration and membership of the European Union don't seem to have done much good. @TheLiberalKnight Don't knock the British republic, it could well happen! President Blair... just think about it! So much more honour, dignity and class than the Queen. Absolutely nobody would have a bad word to say about President Blair. I know I wouldn't.
@The1985Channel Surely you don't mean Tony Blair? The idiot who still wants Britain to join the Euro even as the single currency zone's economies crumble before our very eyes? The conniver who ran up the country's national debt in order to create a client electorate that ensured his party's retention of power? The dictator who chose his own successor instead of letting the British people decide in a fairly contested election?
@Archcowan Yes, that's precisely the sort of person who would get elected President of Britain if these bonehead republicans get their way. Politicians who everyone loathed when they were in their heyday, but who a select left-wing minority consider favourable heads of state for our country, instead of our Queen.
Of course, the Queen isn't elected. But heck, being elected by the people never stopped a national leader from being hated and reviled in great measure.
@malechauvinistxy yeh m8 i iz a republicken 2, ur rite abowt da queen an king stuff bein dead borin and stoopid lol, dis countrey needz a prezidant, i fink dat tony blair wd make a good 1st prezidant of brittan, if blair not intrestid den i fink may b example or sum1 cool lyk him wd be gr8 as well, BIG UP DA REPUBLEC OF BRITTAN.

@TheAnglopride the only way I can make sense of the monarchy is to imagine them as "non humans"..lol..sounds pretty weird but why do people serve the Queen..pay taxes to the Queens treasury and die for her empire when the queen does not give a fuck about us?(and she is non human)
france, russia, germany and greece got rid of their monarchies and look what happened to them. all became economic basketcases or communist/fascist dictatorships
knowing how politically correct and obsessed with multiculturalism modern day britain is, the next coronation will probably be called off to avoid offending muslims
apparently prince philip's cousin was king alexander of greece, who died after being bitten by a monkey while protecting his dog. or that's what ive been told
alas, i cannot but cringe at the cry Vivat Regina! Not because of the sentiment, God forbid! but because of the ATROCIOUS latin mispronounciation of it.
had the choristers no knowledge of the basics of latin diction at this time?
but other wise
God save the Queen Empress , for so she still is to me
@Strefanasha Actually, the people singing Vivat Regina are the Queen's Scholars of Westminster School, and so pronounce it in Westminster Latin - the school's dialect which is basically the same as elizabethan church latin
Conheço uma pessoa que diz que lembra quando ela foi coroada, Frei Francisco, ele é espanhol. Disse que houve um grande comentário por toda a Europa. Particularmente, simpatizo com a família real britânica: Deus salve a Rainha!
this is why i wish i was a child from around this era or slightly before. because even though the country had just overcome war and were in mass economical problems, everybody pulled in together as a nation and simply celebrated the coronation of their queen with all the energy they had...
@ScotsmanTillDeath this video showed britain in its glory days, since then pakistan moved in overnight, and brought with it sharia law and suicide bombers.
@TheAnglopride Well, less than 10% of the UK (underline that) is Muslim. But i agree, Pakis need to be thrown off the edge of a clip. Australia is following soon, shame....
@TheAnglopride how many suicide bombers are there and how many people have been killed by suicide bombers over the last 50 years??..I think more people have died statistically from unsafe working conditions and fuel ;poverty...I think we should divide up tax money to areas that need it most...(how many people have been killed by an outside threat?)..not many so you can slash the defence budget to a tiny percentage of what it is now..on the other hand you can invest much more in areas that..cont
need it more such as improving health, better education..better working regulations...stalling the increase in retiremant age...etc...and things that actually affect every individual.
An hereditary head of state is just as absurd as an hereditary physician, butcher, psychiatrist, indeed any profession. Perhaps even more so considering the influence one wields in that position.
AFAIK UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg and all the other royal/imperial/whatever states around the world can live with their hereditaries. ;)
What's the issue then, if nobody really complains ?
@Paulyb1010 You know that the PM has more power at home than the President of France or even the United States do in their own countries, right? We invest an awful lot of power in our elected representatives, and the Queen carries a lot of influence in the world. Why fix what isn't broken? A largely ceremonial Head of State linked to our history, and a powerful Head of Government whose role is also combined with that of the Head of the Legislature.
@AphoticCosmos The only reason why people complain about the Queen is because they're bored of blaming Cameron and New Labour for everything going wrong in their lives. They're probably doing it over an iPad preparing to settle down for an evening film on their 52" plasma screen TV, with red wine on the ready, while the kids go and play on their PlayStation 3. Modern Britain really is terrible, isn't it?
when a queen consort is crowned, do they use the vivat regina as well as the vivat rex? because wikipedia says they do, but a queen consort is not a reigning queen, so i don't think they are a regina?
Yes. At the coronation of George VI (the King Regnant) and his wife Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Consort) they were greeted first with "Vivat Rex Georgius" and then "Vivat Regina Elizabetha". "Regina" is Latin for "queen", whether Queen Regnant or Queen Consort
if you think the royal wedding was splendid already... wait for another coronation and you'll see the most majestic ceremony that only Britain can pull off :)
@BritainiaNumberOne There may not be another coronation if these republican dimwits get their way... instead we'll be treated to the inauguration of President Blair! Ohhh... the thought sends shivers down my spine!
@darthkarr I seriously doubt that Charles will abdicate. He has waited his entire life to be King, and he is not going to pass up the chance. It is all scripted, and he will be able to handle it. It is a bit sickening, though, to contemplate the thought of Queen Camila. I know they say she will not be Queen, but the wife of the King is the Queen, and if Charles becomes King, she will be Queen. Excuse me while I go to throw up.
@mindspring57 hopefulyl theyll see sense that none likes camilla..plus beign what...in his 70s now?, charles might be too old by the time his mom kicks the bucket...they may just do a limited rule like the olden days...beign exampls in the past of kigs being crowned too old and then simply passing it down to their son, otr due to their unpoluarity (like ncholas II tasar did with his brother to stop the monarchy from being overthtrown..which dditn work anyways)
@darthkarr Nicholas II's example is relevant. He abdicated in response to revolution. Abdication is not in the British tradition. Edward VIII gave abdication a bad odor in the British royal family. Charles is comparable to Edward VII, who became King at age 62 after the death of Victoria. Of course, Charles is that old now. Edward VII was so eager to be crowned King that, even after an attack of peritonitis, he was reluctant to postpone the coronation, but was persuaded to do so.
@darthkarr Philip used to be one of the princes of Greece until we made the mistake and overthroned the royal family!!! and now we are full of debts!!! constitutional monarchy with referendums is the only true and direct democracy!!! we have brains of owr own, we don't need represenatives!!! i hope my fellow greeks will understand that some day!!! and i believe that this day isn't far from now!!!!
'I don't see why people are getting so upset at David Cameron's plans to reform the UK housing benefit system. Personally I'm all in favour of evicting people who don't work for a living and expect the taxpayer to support them in homes they would otherwise be unable to afford.
@doggygenesis It's because she is a direct descendant of the royal family. Philip (her husband) comes from the greek royal family or something like that and so can't be king.
@chap0syoutuification Actually, Philip is from Norway, so he's Norwegian. Philip will never be King because he is not a true part of the British Royal Family. I get extremely confused at the family and so I couldn't tell you who the current heir to the throne is. Unfortunately, both heirs(and I mean what I'm about to say with as much respect as is due) are too stupid to get the throne right now.
@Pandolin11 Yeah i know that Philip was from somewhere like that, but to be honest i don't really put myself out of the way to learn where they're from. Thanks for correcting me btw. I think that the whole family are a bunch of idiots who do nothing for our country.
@Pandolin11 No Philip was born in Greece and hence was a Greek national but his family had been chosen to be the Royal Family of Greece but were a branch of the Danish Royal family.
It's more complicated, because the royal families in europe are distinct relatives of each other. Philip is a far away cousin of his wife, because Queen Victoria was their ancestor.
@josh27JNR Philipp could have claimed several other citizenships through the marriages of noble and royal families. Besides Greece and Denmark he is also a descendant of Czar Nicholas of Russia, of Grand Dukes of Hesse and Princes of Saxo-Altenburg and Dukes of Schleswig and so on.
Philipp was ( before marriage) known as Prince of Greece and Denmark, as those were the closes royal families he was part of.
@rivenoak Yes that is what I meant the Royal Houses of Europe interbred among them selves for so long that ethnically speaking one could describe them as European Royal ethnicity rather than Russian, Greek or German. In regards to nationality Philip was born Greek obviously today he is also a British National.
@Pandolin11 It's nothing to do with where he is from. The Queen is the Sovereign. To call her husband "King" would suggest he too is sovereign. Therefore all husbands of sovereign Queens are called Prince Consorts. The wife of a sovereign King is called a Queen Consort.
@Glyndwr65 Yes. All spouses to a Sovereign are considered to be Consorts, but nevertheless, because Philip is not a descendant of the current Queen, and not a Sovereign, he will not be King. I'm not entirely sure on the capability of the Queen handing the throne to her consort, but I'm sure it's out of question. To put it in a nutshell, Philip will not be King. And my mistake on saying he was from Norway. I've been looking into the Royal branches and it gets confusing. Regards.
@Pandolin11 philip cannot be king because he was not born into royalty, he married into it. just like camilla and kate middleton won't ever become queen regnant.
@TheAnglopride You stand incorrect. Philip was most certainly born into Royalty. In any case, most all Royalty is in some way connected to the British Royalty. Philip was born into Greek royalty. To be noted, both Philip and Her Majesty are second cousins, once removed, making Philip a member of the British Royal bloodline.
@Pandolin11 yes sorry, you are right, he is born into royalty, being a descendent of queen victoria, the point i was trying to make was that people have no claim to the crown if they marry into royalty.
@chap0syoutuification Actually, Philip is a direct descendant of Queen Victoria (he and the Queen are third cousins). Philip is descended through a daughter of Queen Victoria, however, and he is way down the line of succession. Elizabeth is descended through Queen Victoria's eldest son. That makes a world of difference in the royal succession.
"In the early ages of the world, according to the scripture chronology there were no kings; the consequence of which was, there were no wars; it is the pride of kings which throws mankind into confusion. Holland, without a king hath enjoyed more peace for this last century than any of the monarchical governments in Europe. Antiquity favours the same remark; for the quiet and rural lives of the first Patriarchs have a snappy something in them, which vanishes when we come to .. royalty" - T. Payne
So, I guess we in the U.S. commemorating the 150th anniversarsary of, what? It can't be the American Civil War, because there were no kings on either side, so it couldn't have been a war.
Hitler: leader of the Greater German Reich--a republic.
Stalin: leader of the USSR--a collection of republics
@baraxor I don't think all republics are always inherently superior, obviously, that would be an impossible assertion. There are many, many different types of republics throughout history, most of them failures, but very few relatively good ones. Some types of republics are at least potentially better than all other forms of government so far. With monarchies though, one might as well abandon all hope.
The British empire was very closely, directly involved in the Civil War, to say the least.
Both my grandmothers were pregnant when George VI died (my paternal grandmother was 6 and 1/2 months, and my maternal grandmother was 3 months) and by the time of the coronation, my dad was 13 and 1/2 months old and my mom was 10 months old. Neither of them remember this as they were just babies at the time!
@sarahedwards2 - I'm only 20 year older than you but my Grandfather was two years old when Queen Victoria died in 1901. He died in 1978 and so he lived under six different monarchs. Queen Victoria, Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII, George VI and Elizabeth II. Whereas being born in 1970 I have only live under one.
That's Richard Dimbleby, David Dimbleby's Father. I remember seeing Dave Dimbleby hosting the BBC's coverage of Princess Diana's funeral in 1997 on the A&E Network.
Never underestimate the stupidity of the masses, they seek to know nothing of the world they live in, instead wishing to be "entertained" . The art of critical thought is non existent these days and the royal family and the thievery co-orporation they adhere to only serve to prove my point.
We are never going to rid ourselves of these parasites as long as they continue to minipulate those who are easily influenced.
I do not need to love the queen to be proud of my country.
The Queen and whole Royal Family are FAB!!! They do a lot of good work for the UK and the world for that matter and should be respected, not criticised! They were born into this life and do their best. I LOVE them all! So there! xx

Archcowan 3 weeks ago
@Archcowan Yes, that's precisely the sort of person who would get elected President of Britain if these bonehead republicans get their way. Politicians who everyone loathed when they were in their heyday, but who a select left-wing minority consider favourable heads of state for our country, instead of our Queen.
Of course, the Queen isn't elected. But heck, being elected by the people never stopped a national leader from being hated and reviled in great measure.

An hereditary head of state is just as absurd as an hereditary physician, butcher, psychiatrist, indeed any profession. Perhaps even more so considering the influence one wields in that position.

AFAIK UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg and all the other royal/imperial/whatever states around the world can live with their hereditaries. ;)
What's the issue then, if nobody really complains ?
rivenoak 6 months ago
@Paulyb1010 You know that the PM has more power at home than the President of France or even the United States do in their own countries, right? We invest an awful lot of power in our elected representatives, and the Queen carries a lot of influence in the world. Why fix what isn't broken? A largely ceremonial Head of State linked to our history, and a powerful Head of Government whose role is also combined with that of the Head of the Legislature.
AphoticCosmos 5 months ago
@AphoticCosmos The only reason why people complain about the Queen is because they're bored of blaming Cameron and New Labour for everything going wrong in their lives. They're probably doing it over an iPad preparing to settle down for an evening film on their 52" plasma screen TV, with red wine on the ready, while the kids go and play on their PlayStation 3. TheAnglopride 6 months ago
@TheAnglopride

Excuse me while I go to throw up.
mindspring57 7 months ago
@mindspring57 hopefulyl theyll see sense that none likes camilla..plus beign what...in his 70s now?, charles might be too old by the time his mom kicks the bucket...they may just do a limited rule like the olden days...beign exampls in the past of kigs being crowned too old and then simply passing it down to their son, otr due to their unpoluarity (like ncholas II tasar did with his brother to stop the monarchy from being overthtrown..which dditn work anyways)
darthkarr 7 months ago
@darthkarr Nicholas II's example is relevant. He abdicated in response to revolution. Abdication is not in the British tradition. Edward VIII gave abdication a bad odor in the British royal family. Charles is comparable to Edward VII, who became King at age 62 after the death of Victoria. Of course, Charles is that old now. Edward VII was so eager to be crowned King that, even after an attack of peritonitis, he was reluctant to postpone the coronation, but was persuaded to do so.
mindspring57 7 months ago
@darthkarr I meant to say Nicholas II is not relevant.

chap0syoutuification 7 months ago
wait I don't understand. her husband is still alive right?? how come he's not considered a king??
doggygenesis 7 months ago
@doggygenesis It's because she is a direct descendant of the royal family. Philip (her husband) comes from the greek royal family or something like that and so can't be king.
chap0syoutuification 7 months ago
@chap0syoutuification oooooooh that makes sense.
doggygenesis 7 months ago
@chap0syoutuification Actually, Philip is from Norway, so he's Norwegian. Philip will never be King because he is not a true part of the British Royal Family. I get extremely confused at the family and so I couldn't tell you who the current heir to the throne is. Unfortunately, both heirs(and I mean what I'm about to say with as much respect as is due) are too stupid to get the throne right now.
Pandolin11 7 months ago
@Pandolin11 Yeah i know that Philip was from somewhere like that, but to be honest i don't really put myself out of the way to learn where they're from. Thanks for correcting me btw. I think that the whole family are a bunch of idiots who do nothing for our country.
chap0syoutuification 7 months ago
@Pandolin11 No Philip was born in Greece and hence was a Greek national but his family had been chosen to be the Royal Family of Greece but were a branch of the Danish Royal family.
josh27JNR 7 months ago
@josh27JNR
It's more complicated, because the royal families in europe are distinct relatives of each other. Philip is a far away cousin of his wife, because Queen Victoria was their ancestor.
rivenoak 6 months ago
@rivenoak Then perhaps ethnically it would better to describe them as just "Royal" and their nationality being what ever it is as defined by the law.
josh27JNR 6 months ago
@josh27JNR Philipp could have claimed several other citizenships through the marriages of noble and royal families. Besides Greece and Denmark he is also a descendant of Czar Nicholas of Russia, of Grand Dukes of Hesse and Princes of Saxo-Altenburg and Dukes of Schleswig and so on.
Philipp was ( before marriage) known as Prince of Greece and Denmark, as those were the closes royal families he was part of.
rivenoak 6 months ago
@rivenoak Yes that is what I meant the Royal Houses of Europe interbred among them selves for so long that ethnically speaking one could describe them as European Royal ethnicity rather than Russian, Greek or German. In regards to nationality Philip was born Greek obviously today he is also a British National.
josh27JNR 6 months ago
@Pandolin11 It's nothing to do with where he is from. The Queen is the Sovereign. To call her husband "King" would suggest he too is sovereign. Therefore all husbands of sovereign Queens are called Prince Consorts. The wife of a sovereign King is called a Queen Consort.
Glyndwr65 6 months ago
@Glyndwr65 Yes. All spouses to a Sovereign are considered to be Consorts, but nevertheless, because Philip is not a descendant of the current Queen, and not a Sovereign, he will not be King. I'm not entirely sure on the capability of the Queen handing the throne to her consort, but I'm sure it's out of question. To put it in a nutshell, Philip will not be King. And my mistake on saying he was from Norway. I've been looking into the Royal branches and it gets confusing. Regards.
Pandolin11 6 months ago
@Pandolin11 philip cannot be king because he was not born into royalty, he married into it. just like camilla and kate middleton won't ever become queen regnant.
TheAnglopride 6 months ago
@TheAnglopride You stand incorrect. Philip was most certainly born into Royalty. In any case, most all Royalty is in some way connected to the British Royalty. Philip was born into Greek royalty. To be noted, both Philip and Her Majesty are second cousins, once removed, making Philip a member of the British Royal bloodline.
Pandolin11 6 months ago
@Pandolin11 yes sorry, you are right, he is born into royalty, being a descendent of queen victoria, the point i was trying to make was that people have no claim to the crown if they marry into royalty.
TheAnglopride 6 months ago
@chap0syoutuification Actually, Philip is a direct descendant of Queen Victoria (he and the Queen are third cousins). Philip is descended through a daughter of Queen Victoria, however, and he is way down the line of succession. Elizabeth is descended through Queen Victoria's eldest son. That makes a world of difference in the royal succession.
mindspring57 7 months ago
@mindspring57 Third cousins - makes sense to be honest they are pretty inbred. ;)

Mao: leader of the Peoples Republic of China
Pol Pot: leader of the Khmer Republic
baraxor 6 months ago
@baraxor I don't think all republics are always inherently superior, obviously, that would be an impossible assertion. There are many, many different types of republics throughout history, most of them failures, but very few relatively good ones. Some types of republics are at least potentially better than all other forms of government so far. With monarchies though, one might as well abandon all hope.
The British empire was very closely, directly involved in the Civil War, to say the least.
