To all the people having trouble with the marching segment at the very beginning:
My main problem was mashing O too fast. Apparently you CAN press it too fast, after I slowed down, the ratings finally started to skyrocket. Follow what he does in the video and press it at a moderately fast pace and you'll eventually get it. ^^
Good luck Garland, long time no talk. I've been thinking about doing another speed run this summer, I'll let you know if I decide to do so. Can I ask why you picked that date to finish the run?
I started watching from the beginning about 3 hours ago, skipping parts here and there. Saw the date "2007" and was like "Oh this is kinda old" and then I got here and noticed you're...still...doing this. Who wastes 2+ years of their free-time with such a frivolous and stressful run?

you know your not really doing it the fastest if u turn the game off and try the same bit over and over. Plus beat record that matters, if you can count this as a record...
I came across this speed run a few days ago, and have watched every one from the start of the game. I wish you the best of luck, as this speed run must be very hard. Keep it up, hope all goes well :D
Garland. I would like to ask what strategy you plan on using for the train. I have heard rumours that it is possible to "stop" the train by pulling the levers just twice. I have tried this on my "perfect" file and it works however you have to be 1 minute and 15 seconds getting there.
Unlucky about the barrel however for the save point you need to come at it in a diagonal. Then you won't run through it. You gain about a second there.
Yes, I'm already working on the next segment, which hopefully will be posted by the end of the weekend. But after that, there are two very luck reliant segments (need to steal Right Arms from Bombs as quickly as possible), so be prepared for a long break again then.
On running through the Save Point: I found during my run, that if I was able to stop on a dime in the save point (when it didn't stop me with the pop up window), when I loaded from that file, I was stopped by the pop up window on my way out of the save point, wasting time either way. What I did, was purposefully run through the save-points, so that I wouldn't get the window every time I played from that save point. I don't know if you found this as well, but I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Anyway, I found out about the save point issue in segment 3 or 4. In one of these segments, I suddenly got the save point message after loading up and then I was able to run straight trough the next save point.
If you you train right where Jessie is standing it'll take you less than 500 hours. I got to level 25 in 2hours 30 mins. When you get to your 30's that's when things really start slowing down, though...
I dunno if you know this, but right before you level up, save and then level up. If you only get 0 strength up or 1 then reload and try again. If you keep doing this, by the time you are level 99 you'll have the highest possible outcome. Although, you can't reach 255 in any stat without sources. Except for maybe strength...
We obviously researched that stuff ^^. So you can be sure that what Garland does in his run is what we calculated to be the fastest.
At first I thought getting the Force Stealer would be best, but it turned out the time saved against Jenova (and later bosses) would be smaller than I hoped and the HP Plus is needed quite often (and buying it costs too much Gil/time).
Wow. I've never noticed Red XIII hiding in the background before.

Väntar en smula otåligt Garland. Ser verkligen fram emot att se dig förnedra Demon's Gate, Schizo och Carry Armor på låga levlar i warpspeed.

Is this speed run ever gonna be continued?
grapedragon 3 years ago
Yes, it will. I just needed a LONG break, but I'll get back to it. After all, I have promised to finish it by 16th February, 2011.

After Costa Del Sol, It's those damn bridges on the way to North Corel with like 1,000 fights, right?
RedWingFan1340 3 years ago
Well, almost, but that's not the main problem. Stealing Right Arms from Bombs is going to be hell.
GarlandTheGreat 3 years ago
im glad to know steeling the right arms is supposed to be hard. I am at the same part and i cant seem to get them!

I'm doing a "High Level At Start" file
I am level 27 in first reactor
velocityeleven 3 years ago
how long did that take you o.O
kingvegetto 3 years ago
currently at 25 hours
velocityeleven 3 years ago
Well, have fun. Leveling up to 99 takes about 500 hours, in case you're planning to do that.
GarlandTheGreat 3 years ago
Ill just go on for how long I want... Ill be keeping file (several copies)
velocityeleven 3 years ago
are you saying it takes 500 hours to level to 99 in the reactor, or just anywhere?
ffantasy36 3 years ago
just in the first reactor. its alot quicker to level else where.

Actually you can easily get 255 magic without any sources...
