Hey man I bought the Lacie 1Tb external hard drive, and one thing that I noticed though when I plugged in my Windows XP that it only contained 32gb which was an outrage! Because i thought it lost all of that gbs worth and I couldnt return it anymore. Is there any way in which I could fix this problem? Please reply. Thanks!
if you realize, most of external hard drives, mouses and other external devices for computers have a lack of design, they're just functional, besides, if you bought this LaCie disk is because you found it atractive or sth different in comparison to others... you're the wrong here, and don't judge industrial designers, because they are who have created everything you have around
@vruinerv I did industrial design. It's mostly about designing stuff in the most convenient way. Here the designer is specifically mentioned because of his award winning "design". I comment on the simplicity of his so called design and make fun of it with a healthy dose of sarcasm. If you can't handle that than you are a butthurt faggot and need to get your ass off the internet.
You don't have reasons to judge the product's designer work, if you don't know, LaCie's concept is minimalism, so, if you wanna criticize sth, better get info before do it, i'm a product designer too and, in my oppinion, neil poulton is so brilliant...
Mine crashed too. Not even using it ! I didn't lost too much sensible datas, thanks to my several back ups, but....shit. I change the original drive for a Samsung Spinpoint... eveything ok...untill now.
Mine had an F2 EcoGreen 5400 rpm drive. A lot of people have different drives in this LaCie model. My recommendation; get a refund. I'm getting mine replaced now.
My guess it's just a regular USB harddrive or the quadra version of it?
If you only use USB transfer, my tip is by just the shell. It costs around 20-30 $ (converted from my curency, Swedish kronor) and buy a reliable internal harddrive for ~100$.
I use Samsung 1TB F3 and they are quiet as hell and fast as rabbit =)
Transfer rate between two F3 disk (internal, but two separated disks) gets up to 150 MB/s.
@rampagetv I was in the market for the same external harddrive and asked around what kind of HDD was in the case.. a few guys at a sweden's most famous computer forum said that he had open 3-4 and all had diffrent drives :/ That's why i desided to do what I told you about =) Cuz then i know what's inside and i get longer warrenty =)
even if i wanted to sell it, shipping cost of this thing from the Netherlands to the USA + the price would probable almost equal the price of a new one locally ;) and no, I don't wanna sell it. I own it for just over a year and 100% love it ;)
No problem.. I'm looking to buy an external 1TB - 1.5TB HDD and am so confused here.. I love LaCie Rugged XL but don't know how reliable it is.. I want one with eSATA so Seagate is out coz its costs too much.. I know WD MB Studio 2 is good.. but it looks too bulky..

@rampagetv You like the addition of the rubber feet? Isn't that part of the design?

Will take your advice on board - we don't get a great selection in NZ !
Some LaCie's are still working well but I guess it's hit and miss ?

Could be, still too much of a chance for me.

@Accumulatenz
It has an F2 EcoGreen 5400 RPM disk in it. Research it and you will find it generally sucks.

Thanks - your review was thorough and very helpful .... will buy !

@Accumulatenz
Oh I wouldn't go as far as buying it :( in the end it had a 5400 rpm disk in it and crashed all the time, look at my most recent LaCie video.

rampagetv 1 year ago
@rampagetv HAAHHAAHA, lol. No wonder it crashed on you :P A freaking F2 EcoGreen :') 5'400 RPM = Sloooow mooootion.
nygorn 1 year ago
@nygorn actually its 7200 rpm.
rampagetv 1 year ago
@rampagetv Hm. Wierd. Tom's Hardware says 5'400 -.- Anyway, i wouldn't relay so much on an EcoGreen drive :P But that's me =)
nygorn 1 year ago
@nygorn look at samsung spec sheet, 5400 rpm
rampagetv 1 year ago
@nygorn correction; it isn't. Im sending a request for refund as we speak (type).
rampagetv 1 year ago
@rampagetv I'm not following you :P Is it a 7200 or 5400 ? And why refound? :/
nygorn 1 year ago
@nygorn look at the samsung specsheet and you will see that this is is in fact a 5400 rpm HDD. I will ask for repair/refund.
rampagetv 1 year ago
@rampagetv Like i said then ^^ Kinda stupid to send a 5400 rpm hhd when spec on the website says "7200" :S
nygorn 1 year ago
silly question. Does the Lacie Drive supply a USB cable?
utjonny10 1 year ago
If you watch the unboxing, you will see that it seemed the didn't at first, but they do ;) . It would be very stupid if they didn't.
rampagetv 1 year ago
ok thx ;) I skipped a few seconds so I guess I missed it.

not a problem ;)

What is the hard disk inside the drive? Do you know? Does LaCie make it too? Or is it Seagate, WD, Hitachi or one of the other brands?
theenlightened1s 2 years ago
Oh shoot, I forgot to say it in the video. It's a Samsung HD103SI. thanks for the comment ;)
