Thanks, dude. I looked all over to find a way to the top of the letters. If you don't know yet, that "magic snake" that is talked about in the loading screen is near that area where you see the NEW SAN VAN letters. Go up the road and look around for those signs and poles at 0:27. you follow a trail to a skate park similar to the Dueling Snakes park. It's cool.

i found out how to get to the other letters! go pretty slow towards the edge of a letter, hold both RT and LT and when u hav 2 wheels of the edge press X and A, u should fly away and if ur lucky u will land on one of the letters. then just place a marker and go again. iv gotten to the "S" i SAN and the "O" in VANELONA, there is no edges on those :(
