Fisrt time listening to this, and judging by its fame, I expected to hear some very displeasing atonal music... I'm surprised, it's actually very good, very powerful.
in regards to all the lame replies about dislikers: not everybody likes the same shit, even if its incredibly good. Stop being so so defensive and making piss poor jokes.
Amazing coincidence: I was just at amazon grousing about this perf's unavailability as an mp3 download. Wasn't sure how satisfying it would be if it was available, because mp3's tend to chop ballets into tiny pieces (known on CDs as tracks) that interrupt the music flow on a regular basis with annoying little blips. This is SO much better! Extreme gratitude!
Stravisnki, in my opinion, is the greatest composer to ever live. He took pretty much everything complicated and strange in music theory and put into music in a way that is unbelievably enjoyable. There are guys that just try to be complicated, but then there are the geniuses that can be supremely complicated but still sound superb. People say jazz theory is far more complex than classical theory, which is generally true, but Stravinski really destroys that way of thinking.
I was playing this on my ipod and got so rapped up in it my dad thought I was losing it and started staring at me funny. I'm a teenager but Stravinsky's been my favourite for years.
wonderful music. the most important thing is, that music reaches and touches your soul and your heart. in my opinion, things like harmony are secondary! so: GREAT MUSIC!
I got hooked on this piece after I saw 'Fantasia' for the first time and my interest on how it is played has not waned since. This was almost 50 years ago
@candace0425 Oddly enough I think it was more the choreography that cause people to riot. If you poke around on youtube there are a few reconstructions of the original choreography by Nijinsky. It's probably one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen but it does somehow fit.
すばらしい演奏だ!!!!。
It`s beautiful!!!!

Don't know if anyone here listens to Weather Report, but Jaco Pastorius quotes this piece in his solo on "Havona". Little fun fact.

This version is brutal, savage, powerful. Just like Stravinsky intended. The BEST in the overcrowded market!

My favorite piece of all time. Just to think when they first performed this riots happened. And people say music today makes people violent.
candace0425 4 months ago 24
@candace0425
It was actually more due to the choreography than the music, but Stravinski kind of tried to overshadow that fact later on.
