Great video, I'm wanting to do a rabbitry, just getting some ideas. In respect to whatever is eating your leaves in the garden...I have gone into the garden late in the nights with a flashlight to kill snails and slugs by the hundreds, and for years fed the doodlebugs half of my garden by not realizing that they were doing at least as much damage.....about ready to kill every bug and insect except for the bees, even if I have to hand pollinate with a Q-tip...lol
@SunnyMoon2010 My lot is about a 1/3 of an acre. The neighbors are very nice and they like getting a few rabbits. : ) And since I am not breaking any rules there is really nothing they could say about it anyways.
That rabbit manure is terrific for the garden. I'd grow the rabbits just for the fertilizer value alone. (I'm a vegetarian). I support your meat rabbitry. I used to raise New Zealands but they quickly became pets. I just couldn't slaughter what I'd raised and loved. My hat goes off to you for what you are doing.
@jeffdustin Yes it is great stuff. Thanks for being a respectful vegetarian also. Raising and butchering your own food is not for everyone and I dont blame people for not being able to do it.
If you want them Mellon's to grow u need to use horse poo. Try it next year and see the difference it make's, go from 2 - 3 pounders to 6 - 10 pounds. Something about it mellons love. Good Luck next year.
I love your video of your garden you know you just gave me a great idea I would love to do something like that, you don't have to go to the grocery store as often. At least you know where your meat and produce comes from that's the way I see it. very smart.
@orionxxx258 Rabbit meat is some of the most healthy meat you can eat. Its a beautiful white meat. Very low in fat. There is nothing morally nor spiritually wrong with eating rabbit that you have raised for the meat. If you have an issue with eating meat.. thats fine, some do and thats ok. But dont make it sound as if people that do eat meat are crazy or cruel.
@PHANTOMSLAYER77 So, people will go to hell for eating rabbits? And are we really suppose to believe this bc your stupid "holy" book which was written by ignorant bronze age tribal people says so? If Americans go to hell(if there is such a place) it'll probably be bc we let other Americans die in the streets without healthcare and bc we allow our own government to drop bombs killing innocents in the name of revenge, oil, and country.
the cages should be larger (i know arba and stuff say small, but cmon theyre rabbits) than just 30x30. Im not going to criticize you and all, i also raise meat rabbits (but my setup has larger space per rabbit), but just would like to say that. Its nice to see more people in smaller areas raise their own meat/produce :).
A nice bug spray for broccoli is one quart room temp water..a tabs of molasses and a teaspoon liquid dish soap ( not dishwasher kind) Mix and spray.....For slugs..rinse and save your egg shells..when dry crush them up and sprinkle them around the base of your plants..the slugs hate it..it cuts their bellies..so they avoid it..it also adds nutrients to your soil...blanch and freeze the broccoli.
i have slow drianing soil in some spots in my yard, but i have a humongous yard, would you suggest a raised bed garden,or just right into the soil,it will be my first garden and have no clue what im doing?thanks
@18wheeler76 Man you are probably asking the wrong guy. : ) Last year was my first garden but I would think if made rows like mine the excess water would pool in the lanes. Raised bed are really nice because you can fill them with whatever soil compost mixture you want. Good luck hope you do some vids on your garden.
@drahm33 Flemish Giants are not known for having a good meat to bone ration. They eat a lot and grow fast but have large heavy bones. At least this is what I learned from all the research I have done.
we had a problem with our rabbits, and only had 7 all year long, come to find out our Flemish Giant buck was too big for the does, so we're looking around for new zealand or californians. but they garden here in Pa is doing great, we have 105 tomato plants, 500+ strawberry, peppers, carrots, beets, cabbage, zucchini and squash. been harvesting about 100lbs of tomatoes a week and canning them for sauce. i feel very grateful for the harvest this year being my first of growing a real garden.
everything is looking great, that is the mother of all radish's and I love your rabbit hutch. I need to organize myself and get the garden going better, the only benifit of getting a late start is, I will probly be able to get a bunch of leftover plants from the nursery for a buck a tray or so, that's what I did last year too. My chickens keep getting into the garden and I need to almost restart before it's too late.
@outofworkbum Thanks. Good luck with getting deals on plants. I have been buying seeds on sale lately for next year. There is still plenty of growing season left so Im sure you can still get some food before the fall. Of course if the chickens let you have any. lol
HOLY MOLY -- Nine!!! Our first litter is now 10 days old -- only 5 babies though.
It's her first litter, so hopefully, next litter will be larger. I'm thinking of looking for / adding a flemish giant cross. Glad to see you like yours -- she IS gorgeous! Your garden is, IMO, the epitome of the ideal suburban garden. It's beautiful, neat and tidy, productive, and well laid-out. I love what you've done. Everyone "in town" should do what you've done. Gorgeous!
@Michigansnowpony Thanks, I am trying to convince everyone I know to start growing food. I was surprised that she had nine. Her first litter was six. I bred her three times before she wouldn't lift anymore. I put her in with the buck about every four hours and he would try to breed right away. I did the same thing with the NZ but she wouldnt lift after the second time with the buck and started to attack him on the third time I tried. She only had five but has had large litters before.
Great information! Darn, this concept is a little hard for me though (I get a little to attached.) Will you butcher them yourself, and what is the most humane way to go about that? Nice garden too!!! You have alot of knowledge! IMPORTANT STUFF HERE...thankyou so much for your videos!!! I read that you can almost grow spinach year round...it doesn't like the heat though (but I'm sure you already know that!) EXCELLENT!!!
Love ur vids, man.

afids infect the underside of the leaves. You can use an organic, topical application of rosemary oil to run them off. May take several applications
