Hey if you guys like this you should also check out Tangent Transmission! Ive been listening to them ever since I heard them on NCIS:LA and love it. Reminds me of RXB a bit
Why so many comments about what it sounds like? Music often is replicated. You could hear something that you would think it a brand new sound but to be honest it's more than likely been done somewhere else by someone else.
@LordSaget1234 Eh, it happens. I don't think they got it from The Police or anyone...even though it might sound like it. The way I see it is there are only so many melodies and so many beats...they are more than likely going to be replicated in some sort of way eventually. It happens more than you would think. The artist hears something new while the fan or even critic points out that it sounds like something else. It happens.
Me too. While they still rock without horns...I can't get totally use to them not having any. I wish Borth and Sheets were back. Borth's band Satori is still pretty great. I like them a lot.
I wish I was there! I missed their MA show at the beginning of August and I am still bummed out. ONE DAY I will see them live, and it will be the best day of my life.
i actually went to bonaroo in 07 and missed them. i was rally pissed. ive been addicted to them forever but had you guys been to bonaroo you would understand that things come up and you just cant do what you want sometimes. i was tripping my ass off at the time getting ready to see tool. i heard them off in the distance jamming for like twenty minutes though. it was amazing to hear but i wish i would have seen it.
@deadstarchild Aw man. You should have made your way their. I know you wanted to... :D but I can understand that. Lots going on at Bonnaroo. I'm pretty sure they were the first band of the day. I didn't even know who they were then...but I read about them before I came and saw they were the first of the day and so I went to watch them and have been addicted to them since.
is it true there's no trombone on the new cd? how sad!!!!! i'm scared the tromboner wont even go on tour with em if they're distancing themselves from it... why oh why? there are sooo many vital parts of songs they've made that neeeeeeed at least one horn... and who's gunna sing back up? huh? even though the saxaphonist steve broth who left a few years ago was waaaaay better at back up vocals, the tromboner (sheets) still is ok.. how can they tour without him..
he only recently left cuz he's in rehab, ...and thebattle begun was in 2006. hes been in it since then until like, last month he was officially not in anymore.
saw TLA Philly show on 7/29/09 and they still kick ass! Another sold out as Philly/SoJersey loves this band. Peace to Sheetz and Borth - can't wait for a reunion show ... but Matt, Chris, Steve & Joe just command so much respect on stage. The crowd sang the 'Overcome' refrain 20 times before Troy and Chris came back and picked up the drum and bass line! Show ended past midnight - for a weekday on South Street - unheard of ... Respect to all, DadGerry
i saw them years ago, when i was into punk. i didn't like ska, still didn't (they were playing ska then). rufio opened for them. needless to say rx bandits MADE a ska fan out of me for a night and completely destroyed all the other bands that played that night. DEAD on!
If you ask me, i think they have progressed so far beyond that point as musicians. to go back would hinder them. Plus that stuff would never fit into their current set.
The bandits are amazing on stage, listening to them, portugal. the man and maps and atlases was the most amazing experience ever...didnt care i couldnt hear for 3 days, it was so worth it
Im new to them and havent heard the studio version of this song...but at the slow breakdown in the middle, did anyone else notice the similarity to Machine Gun by Hendrix??
Seeing the RX Bandits live is a truly amazing experience. You'll leave the show feeling something you've never felt before. It's like being high, you've got to go to one. You will not be disappointed.
and also...what's up with Choi at 5:08? He looks frightened or something...haha. There were a lot of people there. They were the open concert for Bonnaroo. They say it was probably most memorable.
I had honestly never really listened to them much, but then I saw them at '07 Bonnaroo...and it was on. I feel ashamed not to have known this band before then, but they are to me a strong influence and I have to listen to it everyday, very addictive. Love them! And awesome show...legendary.
Is it just me or does it seem that Chris doesn't have as much confidence now that he's the only horn player in the band? He does good in this song but in stuff like Only for the Night he seems to shy away.
The guitar solos back and fourth were primarily in blues scales (minor pentatonic) and it's typical for guitar plays to play "blue notes," which are notes that do not fall naturally in the scale, but can be used to pass more smoothly from note-to-note to create a "sliding" or "falling" feeling in melodies. i think that's what dissonance you're talking about. they were definitely in the same key, though. no denying that.
i'm a huge Rx fan, one of the biggest out there...but there's no denying that the jam from about 4 - 5 minutes in is not good...sounds like choi and embree are playing in different keys....oh well
Matt is playing the harmony of Choi's guitar...they are still playing in the same key and are completely in tune. The "oh oh oh's" gave me chills...seeing that many people replying. Amazing.
what are you talking about? It sounds perfect. Plus sometimes they like to throw some dissonance in, if you listen to the sound of animals fighting you'll know what I mean.
you probably won't read this but you should learn to finish your sentences before you decide to bash some band you haven't seen live. just for the record i have. ps when's the last time brand new put out an album? a decent one at that.
I'm not bashing RX, I've seen them MANY times and I fucking love them. I'm talking about the dude who said that the jam wasn't good. I meant to say "he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about... yada yada yada"
But I was just saying how anyone's opinion in youtube can just get crushed, like how that dude said that Embree and Choi were a little off, some can hear the gold in that, and others take it as shit. Basically, createanomaly, you took my comment the wrong way and totally took it farther than what you should have. I've seen RX MANY times, and I've been a fan for 5 years.
And Brand New, well check out "The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me". Great album. And no worries, I'm not taking it personal, I'd totally defend RX and someone came and just said they suck or something. I'm so tired of that shit on here.
