The Talon TSI is a copy of the Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX, while Mitsubishi was producing both cars, the 3000gt and the eclipse at the same time, The Eclipse is a cheaper alternative to a 3000gt VR4, which was there main sports car.

@blakasassin1 As a VR-4 owner, I must ask - how much money do you have to put into the car? Even the most basic parts on a 3000GT, especially the turbo and AWD components of a VR-4, are greatly more expensive than they are for your average car. For someone your age, I would recommend a 90s or early 2000s Subaru for an AWD car - wait till you have plenty of money for an AWD 3000GT/Stealth unless you want to spend all your money on it.
@3kgtss Yeah, I love my VR-4, but I am glad I didn't end up buying one as my first car when I was 16 (I had the chance to get a R/T TT Stealth), I wouldn't have been able to afford to keep it. These cars were $40-50k brand new and the cost of parts still reflects that. People don't buy old 'vettes expecting them to be cheap cars, but they buy VR-4s and are then shocked at how much it costs to keep them running. Can't deny the love for it when it is running in top shape though.

My second post, I was saying that I love my VR-4, but I'm glad I didn't buy it as my first car. I'm just about to turn 26, I wanted one ever since I was learning to drive, I didn't buy one until just a few months ago though - I'm glad I waited, otherwise I would have hated the car due to how much it costs to keep.
@Dreznin Then again, I still don't have the one I wanted - I have a VR-4, but I wanted a Stealth RT/TT. While they are the same car, I like the less aggressive side trim and the roof line of the Stealth (how it arches all the way back to the rear deck, as opposed to how the 3000GT has the rear quarter windows behind the pillars). Still love it, plan on finishing up my restoration of it and then selling it or trading it to get a 94+ Stealth and doing a 99 front end conversion and bigger turbos.

a little trick I've seen with 4g63 , get an additional injector, and activate via a pre fuel pump , you have to make a special housing for to locate it where the trotter is the you need a fuel regulator and boost control , and a good mechanic to make the setting and you can go as high a 20 psi with original turbo and it won't break the engine because your are sending the additional fuel needed for the air you will be inducing (premium gas 93+) it's cheap but fun

wll the GSX can take hard launches better because it has a better tranny and helluva lot lighter but the VR4 can take em also if you took it to the shop and had the tranny built like it was suposed to. the tranny put in the 1st gens were great just the contract mitsubishi had with the tranny maker sucked. Getrag (tranny maker) had mitsu contract to where no parts were made for the tranny you have to get a new on if somethin broke. but now (after law suits) there are helluva lot better parts.
hell naw the trannys arnt weak just the contract mitsu had with Getrag made everyone think they were lol hears a site i learned about it at 3000GTVR4(dot)com i learned about the tranny, recall, all kinds of usefull stuff. check it out
@xzeratarx Not in this case, but the 4G63t is highly mod friendly (plus the talon is about 1000lbs lighter)... If the 3000 stays mostly stock it wouldn't be hard to put together a Talon that could beat it.

Im just saying your getrag gears are about 2 or 3 times anything in a t/e/l tranny. Any talon running 400 or more is on borrowed time. Sure, shep and TRE do some great work. but when it comes down to it, they are just blueprinted stock trannies with better synchros.

I can't say much for vr-4's cause I have never had one. As for dsm trannies anyone can definitively say that they are the worst part of the car. Spend 2 seconds on dsmtuners and you will know. There are probably a handful of dsm's that dont have synchro issues. That is fact.
I don't even own a 3000 and every one I have looked at/driven has had 3rd gear synchro problems. And as for the DSM trannys, I own one, and know 2 others who do as well. One is 16G built, and all three of them are on the stock tranny with no problems.
Just ask the owner of 16g car how much time he thinks he could shave if his tranny liked high-rpm shifts. Stock they are fine, I was only stating they are a weak link overall.
speak for yourself. I've had 2 3000gt vr4s a 5spd and a 6spd. no tranny problems... I've owned about 10 dsm turbo cars, and only 1 of em had a smooth shifting tranny.

Agree to say the same,I got a 97 eclipse with the 420A basic but im building it,it already has 200 hp,im not dissapointing V8's i like any certain engines.
i havent hade the car all that long, 6moth, but im in a 3000gt network and i havent heeard about any "car problems" only prblem i know about it the problem the comes with bad treatment. like going 60mpg and shoffling in the 2nd gear and stuff like that. as long as you dont do any cheap mods to it, it is allmost bullitproof. best car i ever had! (my 5th car)
The problem with the SL is that they are FWD. Putting to much power to the front wheels will help you do burnouts even when you do not want to. However, there have been a few people who have managed to pull off putting a turbo in their SL. It would mostly depend on your budget and usage of the extra power. Biggest trait the VR4 has over the SL is the AWD, which will help them pull their cars with all that power, less skidding when pulling from a dig.

becaause if you break boost instead of wating that 1 to 1 1/2 seconds of waiting for the turbo to hit full potential it will hit almost right away and the talon woulda been maybe even with that 300+ hp car because its light and that gto is over 3200 lbs and the talon can hit down to 2500 lbs

So, DSM Manufactures the talon, and being as DSM is a joint venture you can only call a talon half Mitsubuishi and half chrysler not a mitsubishi with a different badge. They are different, the valve covers are different and they have a 14g turbo etc..

wll the GSX can take hard launches better because it has a better tranny and helluva lot lighter but the VR4 can take em also if you took it to the shop and had the tranny built like it was suposed to. the tranny put in the 1st gens were great just the contract mitsubishi had with the tranny maker sucked. Getrag (tranny maker) had mitsu contract to where no parts were made for the tranny you have to get a new on if somethin broke. but now (after law suits) there are helluva lot better parts.

@xzeratarx Not in this case, but the 4G63t is highly mod friendly (plus the talon is about 1000lbs lighter)... If the 3000 stays mostly stock it wouldn't be hard to put together a Talon that could beat it.

Im just saying your getrag gears are about 2 or 3 times anything in a t/e/l tranny. Any talon running 400 or more is on borrowed time. Sure, shep and TRE do some great work. but when it comes down to it, they are just blueprinted stock trannies with better synchros.

I can't say much for vr-4's cause I have never had one. As for dsm trannies anyone can definitively say that they are the worst part of the car. Spend 2 seconds on dsmtuners and you will know. There are probably a handful of dsm's that dont have synchro issues. That is fact.

I don't even own a 3000 and every one I have looked at/driven has had 3rd gear synchro problems. And as for the DSM trannys, I own one, and know 2 others who do as well. One is 16G built, and all three of them are on the stock tranny with no problems.

speak for yourself. I've had 2 3000gt vr4s a 5spd and a 6spd. no tranny problems... I've owned about 10 dsm turbo cars, and only 1 of em had a smooth shifting tranny.

i havent hade the car all that long, 6moth, but im in a 3000gt network and i havent heeard about any "car problems" only prblem i know about it the problem the comes with bad treatment. like going 60mpg and shoffling in the 2nd gear and stuff like that. as long as you dont do any cheap mods to it, it is allmost bullitproof. best car i ever had! (my 5th car)

The problem with the SL is that they are FWD. Putting to much power to the front wheels will help you do burnouts even when you do not want to. However, there have been a few people who have managed to pull off putting a turbo in their SL. It would mostly depend on your budget and usage of the extra power. Biggest trait the VR4 has over the SL is the AWD, which will help them pull their cars with all that power, less skidding when pulling from a dig.

becaause if you break boost instead of wating that 1 to 1 1/2 seconds of waiting for the turbo to hit full potential it will hit almost right away and the talon woulda been maybe even with that 300+ hp car because its light and that gto is over 3200 lbs and the talon can hit down to 2500 lbs

I do think though that a 4G63 is a better engine to build though so i agree with you on a bit on 4cyl being better than 6

not to be a douche but your wrong again, Eagle is a division of chrysler, so is DSM. DSM is the company that manufactures the 4G63 thats in lasers and talons. DSM is owned by Chrysler and Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi manufactures the JDM 4G63 not the north amarican 4G63. So, DSM Manufactures the talon, and being as DSM is a joint venture you can only call a talon half Mitsubuishi and half chrysler not a mitsubishi with a different badge. You shouldnt get so mad because your wrong, and im right.

I have a jdm 4g63t in my talon, I know for a fact that its a jdm.. they had bigger turbo (16g) and some other things. Im pretty sure mopar43v3r is thinking about the same jdm engine witch was found in the jdm mitsubishi galants. But you are right about the talon, eclipse and laser engines being built in illinois. They are different, the valve covers are different and they have a 14g turbo etc..

i agree that they are both rivals....however the tunning statement is unclear...sure the dsm has near unlimited part vendors. However to say one or the other is easier to work on/tune i disagree. once you get around the fact that the 3S-GTE is located in the back of the MR2...tuning each is just as easy...just have to do a little maneuvering that's all..
