  • Hello,

about the sample between 1:15 and 1:40 "the voices". Where did you get it?

    Is it from Tesla's radio?

  • @AnasTangi

The voices are heard in real-time from the Tesla Spirit Radio through the computer software. In this case the radio was tuned on a radio station that had voices, but the sound is transposed a few octaves by the AUPitch software in Audio Hijack. Sometimes this method produces incredibly beautiful or strange sounds.

  • @MrfixitRick Thank you. So what Tesla was scared off perhaps were just voices from some radio station?

Does this device allow you to capture something elese, like paranoormal sounds, not from a conventional chanel? I am more interested in this, please give me any advices.

  • @AnasTangi

There were no radio stations when Tesla was doing his early radio experimenting. That's probably what freaked him out about hearing voice. However, there may have been transient radio waves inadvertently broadcast by long miles of telegraph wire at that time, or some waves found in nature including lightning which can reverberate and resonate in the ionosphere.. His apparatus, although primitive, was very sensitive.

  • @AnasTangi

I have heard strange sounds like music and voices, but they most likely come from garbled radio stations.

Keep in mind this amazing crystal radio "hears" a rather full spectrum of electromagnetic, magnetic, electrostatic, electrical and light frequencies...it is up to us to filter it the way we prefer. There seems to be alternate ways of listening with real-time sound enhancing software.

  • How did Tesla hear sound from the radio? Does it generate it's own sound, or is something else required? Basically, I'm asking without a computer, how else can you hear sounds from it?

  • @colemanrpatrick

The idea is a that a "LC Circuit" (L=Inductor & C=Capacitor) resonates at a certain frequency. A radio signal from the antenna resonates with the LC circuit and through the diode, converts the AC radio signal to pulsed DC. This makes a sound vibration in a high-impedance earphone. An added battery or dynamo can amplify the sound signal enough for speakers.

  • Waww!

  • i wonder what a crystal skulls sound is ...... -_-;

  • could it if you made the antenna realy big, and used a neodynium rod instead of a iron magnet rod andlots of that wraparound wire? sorry i just though you could cos i saw some other video where some one dun it

  • @theonelinerkid

There are folks who are experimenting with charging small batteries and lighting LED's using special radio waves.

Also, a long enough vertical antenna will pull power out of the atmosphere, which has a voltage gradient.

Nikola Tesla transmitted and received kilowatts of power over a 20 mile distance with his system, and that was well over 100 years ago!

  • how about one of them realy low prower hig efficiency ones?

  • could you hook a led up to this and use it as a portable light?

  • @theonelinerkid

There is not enough energy in the available radio waves to charge a battery or to activate a LED.

  • Another question came to me. What would happen if you put a tiny quarts crystal either at the center of the spiral or at the top, on both antennas or just one? If there is such a change what would happen if you used different types of crystal and or stones, since we know that these different objects resonate at different frequencies.

Also, could you please make a video on how to make the different kinds of radios that you have worked with.

  • @OnTheRideHome

Mr Gold uses quartz or tourmaline crystals in some of his antenna designs. He discusses various antennas and resonance in his book "Parallel Worlds Explored". Quartz is used inside the copper wire handgrips of his Beacon device, found at yoyodyneindustries(dot)com.

I have full instructions to build the "Spooky Tesla Spirit Radio" circuits at instructables(dot)com/member/mrfixits

  • Your radio seems to pick up low levels of energy in the atmospher, what happens when you place the radio ontop of someone who is lieing down on a flat surface? Will different body parts produce different sounds as the body gives off energy, the head might give off the strangest or strongest of sounds. Can you make a video of that?

  • @OnTheRideHome

    That's a good idea.

The human body can as a capacitor, a battery, a variable resister, or an antenna, depending on how it is hooked up.

I have tried placing the radio close to different body parts. Being close to or touching the antenna will increase the gain (volume) of the RF signal.

It may be possible to tune into the electrical field of the heart, but generally the background noise is excessive. The experiment would be best free from all extra electrical fields.

  • @MrfixitRick

Another question came to me. I'm not sure if you have tried this or not but what if you put a tiny quartz crystal in the center of each, or perhaps just one of the spiral antennas? does anything happen? This might be a silly question but do you have a video on how to make the different kinds of radios that you have worked on or with? if not, could you please?

  • I think it's the same way a Wah Wah pedal for an electric guitar works. The change in magnetic fields causes resonance changes. Do you process the sound in anyway? (i.e. reduce or increase the frequency)

  • @Nomoreidsleft

The sound signal from the radio goes through a real-time program called Audio Hijack Pro. The gain, pitch and reverb are altered in real time, to get the cool sounds. The AuPitch Control makes a huge difference in "fine tuning" the radio's signal.

  • 1:39 I hear the same thing sometimes when I'm layin in bed at night! Sounds like voices too low to make out what they are saying. I always thought it was some trick my ears were playing on me.

Never heard of this radio before. Tesla was a friggin genius. I hate that mythbusters episode about him...a travesty.

  • This is fantastic. Thank you for the instruction on how to build this as well. I think I was just directed to a website I will be frequenting often too.

  • @DreamPharaoh

    Thanks!

Folks can check out my Instructables website for info on this project and others. (link is in this video's "more info" box)

  • Thanks for uploading this video.

Minds like Tesla should had the gift of immortality too.

  • has anyone ever tried this in a "actual" haunted house?

  • THAT IS PERFECT FOR A HAUNTED HOUSE. THE ONLY TIME ITS SILENT IS WHEN THE LIGHST OFF

  • @SlyNicolai dumb ass. Genuine tard here fellas!

  • amazing

  • So is this device for real?

  • @mikesndbs

That depends on what you mean by "for real"?

The sounds you hear are recorded live in real-time.

There are some unusual effects that can be obtained from this simple crystal circuit.

Whether it can tune in spirit voices is up for debate.

  • @MrfixitRick Ah right that is the answer I wanted, any chance of sending me the circuit details I'd love to try this out?

    Thanks.

  • @mikesndbs

Check out the "more info" box for a link to complete build instructions for the Spooky Tesla Spirit Radio.

  • @MrfixitRick Cool! thanks

  • Good vid ! More Tesla in vid of HorizonDelta ;-)

  • @HorizonDelta

Thanks! I recommend folks check out HorizonDelta for good Tesla info.

  • Tesla, Forgotten Genius of Electricity!!!!

  • I've got a question for you: Does a crystal radio circuit actually involve the use of crystal? And if so, have you heard of the 13 crystal skulls? I may have just lost you with that one, but to give a brief summary: a crystal skull was found in the ruins of a pyramid in south america decades ago, it was incredibly odd because it had a full jaw, etc and resembled the human head perfectly. Rumor has it 13 exist, and when together, form a sort of.. database. Crystal can contain near limitless data.

  • @GotsTricks

Crystal radios get their name from the use of a 1N34A or 1N60 diode in the circuit. The diode has germanium crystal inside as the active element. Perhaps 13 crystal radios could form a data cluster.

Also, water is known to have crystalline characteristics. Our bodies are 70% water, so 13 humans would likely suffice...

  • @MrfixitRick

Thanks, the forest of questionmarks grow.

I definitely believe the answer lies within ourselves, aswell as perhaps these skulls. I love that you've gone out and made one of these, its inspiring you know. Alas one question: why do you think Tesla wrote down that he was unsure if the voices he was hearing over his [original] radio were from this world, or not?

  • @GotsTricks they were declared fake after recent advances in microscopy and forensic analysis revealed tiny traces of sillicon carbide from the cutting tools used to make them on the surface, which wasn't known or used until around 1920, sorry

  • @danobaka

You're not completely correct on that bit, I know that there are several fakes out there, as there are always a few groups of people who will move against productivity, but the original, found in a Pyramid on the expedition to south america long ago is infact something that is mind boggling. It's perfect jaw is something that no other carving or statue from history has ever produced, and the idea of making a fake one today would be damn near impossible.

  • So yeah there will always be a few people out there who will make a buck off anything, etc. The reality is though, there is at least one single skull that is, well, real. Key words there at least.

  • Haarp sounds like this and operates at 7.405 hz, coincidence...? i think not i think thet mess with maas population alpha brain waves, what do you think. and also your jar is powered by a crystal...? lke the piezo effect?

  • @altenative54

Not sure what to think about HAARP. Thinking just gets me into trouble anyway!

The jar is a crystal radio circuit. It has a germanium crystal in the diode. The circuit is un-powered except for the radio waves, which sets up a resonance between antenna and ground, and other waves such as magnetic or light which can influence the coil or diode and make power.

  • Not posible my friend.

It doesn't matter how powerfull the HAARP "Prototype" (Becuz, it's just a damn joke, compared to the real Blueprint Tesla left behind) it is, it doesn't have the ability to mess up with common joe's Alpha Brain waves. (At least, Massively, for its ground range of Efectiveness is quite low.)

  • The woodpecker sounds like an alpha wave.

  • @951mjc

Yes, it is about 10 hz, right in the middle of the Alpha brain wave frequency.

  • @MrfixitRick sounds like i'm getting an MRI

  • Can you post a tutorial on how to make one?

  • @modman1234567

Folks who wish to build a Spooky Tesla Spirit Radio should check out the Instructables link found in the "more info" box.

  • @MrfixitRick Well i'm sort a visual learner when it comes to things like this and thought it would be nice to see a video on how to make one.

  • Fascinating! I wonder if the sounds created by this device are affected by the observer? I've seen video examples about quantum physics, where little particles act differently if an observer is watching. So... I wonder, here, if the sounds sound differently depending on if there is a listener. Know what I mean? :-)

  • @TheCarolynMusic

That seemed to be the case as I was recording some of these sounds. It was an interactive real-time experience that seemed to change according to the quality and intensity of my attention.

  • the woodpecker effect sounds like the beacon for the wifi

  • I want one of these !!!!!!

  • this stuff is way over my head, but awesome none the less. nice work!

  • woah

  • The paterns formed between the coils are beautifull....The color test sounds similar because the intencity of them are similar except black, test a diferent % of black, 20% 40% 60%...100%, and probe how it reacts showing a spiral?...have you test touching diferent peope...good and bad health...maybe it works like a sick detector...tnx for share

  • Can this energy received by the antenna (RF pulses, light) be transformed into flowing electrons?

  • @methylik

The rf pulses are transformed from the antenna coil into flowing electrons by the diode, which produces a dc flow from the ac signal. However, the power is very low and is not useful for most purposes other than a signal.

The antenna does not pick up light. It is the 1N34A diode that is light-sensitive. It can produce power from a light source similarly to how a photo-cell can.

  • (machine translation from Russian)

Where it is possible to see the scheme of contents of your jar and why a jar have not washed?

  • @Shuspano

I used a new standard canning jar. The electrical schematic and building instructions are found in the Instructables link in the "more info" box to the right >>>

  • What does it really sound like without the reverb being added by the computer?

  • @ozebid

I add much gain and pitch control as well as reverb. Without the effects, it sounds like a normal radio with static.

  • Life is full of mysteries :)

  • I just made this the SPOOKY VIDEO OF THE MONTH at Horror Garage (dot) com

  • wild! Thanks so much -- I've always been a big radio, and Tesla fan. . . .

  • Sometimes computer or the speakers can combine in strange ways, once i had a setup, where i kept getting weak russian radio on it... WTF...

i would like to hear more recordings of those voice like sounds, i find them very intresting.

  • @paranoiadmin

This I can easily explain to you.

In my neighbourhoud there is an amateur marconist and if he transmits at a higher power output, lets say some 100 watt, the signals will be received by the wiring of my pc soundsystem that act abit like an antenna.

This signals will be amplified by the speakers amplifier, . It means I hear everything that the marconist says trough his mike!

and he is 40 yards from me.

ofcourse the soundsystem must be plugged into the grid

  • @215alessio

Yes, i am aware of this effect, but that still doesn't explain how i could receive a russian signal on my speakers, its like 3000km away, maybe more most radio doesn't really go that far, but of cause some of it must.

however the electronic voice phenomenon is very interesting, first of tesla discovered it, and i am a big fan, and at that this nobody else was using radio, so where did they come from?, and what is it... and i have never heard them, so i want to...

  • I mean honestly, it's hooked to a computer. so it could be doing most anything.

how about you do some tests with some analog amplification equipment, guitar pedals, distortion & fuzz.

  • @mtrucco

Sure, great idea...I will work on that.

  • in an alternative universe, I think this might be a prank video, where they have some springs in a jar, and there's a guy around the corner making spooky sounds. where's my theremin again?

  • Como se puede fabricar ??

  • @soydebadalona

Hice seis de ellos. Puedo vender por $ 130. USD cada uno.

  • yo quiero eso

  • I wish I grew up playing with rockets and electronics. I had NES lol. Im making one of these with your instructables.

  • I used to build no battery radios as a kid. I like the look of this!

  • @alanstarkie2001

I suggest that folks build one to find the missing child within!!

  • spooky

  • 6:55

  • Gotta build one of these!

  • Check out my Instructable in the "more info' for complete building info, and pics.

  • hey man you should test it under water. peace eh

  • Spooky inductive coil Durrrrrrr...

  • ahh how was you generate that at by 1:17 thats really intresting! wow (Tesla was not hawe at there time PC to modulate whit that the sounds) and normally are that reciver silent)

  • The voice sounds at 1:17 are real radio voices with pitch change and reverb added. There's no "real" spirit voices there, as far as I know. However, the same pitch alteration technique can be used to find sounds and voices that are not normally heard.

If the radio is silent, that means the gain needs to be turned up to make it more sensitive. When the gain is cranked up, the radio becomes more sensitive to radio waves, to things in its environment, and to the internal workings of the computer.

  • Thx for your ansver! I hear just comon station, and there chasting, (I think that is why I use just amplification and not sound modulation) . Just one question , was you hear a real lightning , or was just sounds like a one ? Aniway , its really intrestig :)!

  • Oh, it was real lightning! A storm was approaching, and there were very audible hits that shook my sound system every minute or two.

  • You know shomething what I dont. I have several detector radios , and was listening to there in storms too , but never was I hear lightning. Just awesome.

  • Normally lightning sounds like static on a regular detector radio, but on this one, the software is set up super-sensitive such that it sets off a nice resounding, booming, full sound.

  • Ahh well : ) THX! Sadly I hear in one time several ppl talking in it.I think I must doo shometing to mute that ,and just after can I gain the amplification .

  • Big thnxs for the info ...

    I take a look

  • Hey, nice to see you're work here,Tesla got my intrest also.

Mea i ask you where I can find the Tesla's Patents.....specaily the drawings of them.

(sorry for the poor english of me)

I really appr.. it if you can tell me where to find them.

Anyway thnxs for sharing and keep up the good work you're doing here on youTube.

    greetzz from Holland.

  • Search Google for "Pepe's Tesla Page" for a list of Tesla patents and view them. Use PAT2PDF to download any particular patent number you like as a pdf file.

  • Woah those voices are creepy!

    And nice iMac G5.

    

  • Very intresting, I am planning to make it and maybe even enhance it.

    Anyway, nice job *thumbs-up*

  • 7:00 ROFL!

  • Wonderful video, but more needs to be shown about the spirit voices part. How did Tesla hear these voices? Did you try it?

  • secret submissive female seeks man with a plan to eat a van, down by the river

  • how 'bout a how to vid?

  • Full build instructions are available at my Instructables site. See the link in the "more info" box to the right >>>

  • very interesting vid

  • 1:25 Is the best part

  • check out this very original instrumental band with a hauntingly beautiful violin. search for "Radium Karmara"

  • awesome sound

    Yeah Logitech x230 that's good !

  • Audio paradolia at it's finest!

  • what causes the second effect? sounds awesome!

  • The controversial "Disembodied Spirit Voices" is simply normal radio voices from the un-powered crystal radio that have been tweaked by the Audio Hijack Pro software to raise pitch, and add reverb, in real time.

However, the raising of pitch in real time does have a tendency to reveal layers of sound that were hidden before. If there was a way to really hear real spirit voices, that technique might be part of it.

  • very cool. congrats on being featured by instructables'!!

  • Thanks! I love Instructables...great site.

This device was also featured as the Gadget Freak of the Month in Design News magazine last month. (Link in the "more info">>>)

  • 6:55 onward = epic.

  • Dude, you receiver is set on amplitude modulation, its popular like AM ;)

Do you think, that you receive energetic levels from something or from somewhere?

If you show up colours from paper, the signal will be the same, now you detect a synchronization signal from computer to monitor :) Yes, you can detect a harmonic signal from light storm, which is a far, noise from the grid, potential from your body, white and pink noise, but colours...please :)

  • Yes Nikola Tesla is great inventor, but when he

is been tested various devices, the artificial noise

on Earth is been too low, I mean, then repeaters is not been used.

  • It's true the Spirit Radio does not detect colour frequencies on the screen per se, and would not pick up colours from paper. The screen synchronization signal sounds are "associated with" certain colours.

It took me a while to figure out what was going on, hehe.

Thanks for the right on comments!

  • In fact their is a very big explanation on the color detection.... The back light of LCD monitor is mad of tubes (don't know the lamp name) That operate a a frequency... LCD monitors display colors by choosing the colors that they will let through them, so with changing colors we probably hear something in between the backlight tube frequency and the refreshing frequency... :-P

    Peace brothers,

  • wayyyy cool

  • Awesome

  • Ostia! Pero si es Tao Pai Pai!

  • fantastic great going stuff your on target with this technology

  • thanks john, that means a lot coming from you!

  • Spooky! I love playing with my normal radio when I go on road trips and hear music fade-out and in... at a distance you can hear the effects of landscape and weather, who needs sound artists?

  • really cool.

  • TESLA=biggest inventor ever

    electricity

    radio

    x-waves

    .... many more

  • me gustaria tener uno!!!!

  • so THIS is how they made the myst soundtrack

  • Well.... I'd say this pretty much rules all!!

I wish I had the time, know-how and talent to make one.

  • OK, disregard the last... I just got caught up with the first video in the series... In the immortal words of the late John Denver... Far Out!

  • Hehe, you beat me to it!

So other folks know, the other video that shows the strange screensaver visualizer effect on the Spooky Tesla Spirit Radio is "Spooky Tesla Spirit Radio: Wormhole Voyage #1" YouTube/watch?v=P6f29cUhRxg

  • Ok how about this one... you play some music, but keep the volume turned down, but you put the spirit radio in front of the screen to react to the visualizer, record the interpretation that the spirt radio has of that, then compare the the original recording to that... huh huh wattayathink?

  • Yes, I need to do that video. If they turn out similar, it will be freaky!

  • No...... It'll be spoooooooky. May I suggest something like Parliment Funkadelic, or Jimmi? Something spacy.

  • cool

  • Rick, that is too cool! Do you take requests on your radio station? Seriously I'm wondering if you'd try something and then let us know how it worked out. Instead of manually moving large color blocks around on the screen, could you set up something like winamps random screensaver thingie, that responds to music, and see how it responds to that? Ok its really called visualizations, from the drop down menu. Thanks in advance Mano!

  • Can you explain why your own voice didn't effect it?

  • The AuPitch and Reverb modules of the Audio Hijack Pro software were turned off for that "microphone" test, so my voice input was not altered in that sense.

  • Pretty cool, but rather than record what your speakers output, wouldn't it be better to just record the audio out from the computer? I could barely hear your voice in the playback because the sound was playing from your speakers then being picked up by a mic and played back on my speakers. That's a lot more steps..

  • You look like Nicola tesla... hmmmm....

  • It's just a parallel life persona in an alternate universe thing.

  • looks like someone has AT&T Uverse! sorry, just an observation because I install it. cool vid

  • Hehe, do you know what the pulser does in the wireless modem?

  • i have no clue, other than make a woodpecker sound

  • Maybe it's a bug deterrent...

  • A couple of questions.

    1) Where did Tesla get a 1N34A light sensitive diode?

2)Tesla was a pioneer there would not have been any other radio transmitters at the time of his experiments, so the disembodied voices he heard could not have been just distorted radio tranmissions could they?

    3) The coils of your arial are not physically supported therefore they are able to flex. This would allow them to flex with sound waves from your computer speakers causing accustic feedback in the circuit.

  • The disembodied sounds could have come from the natural background radiation of the universe.

  • 1.) The 1N34A was only available to Tesla later. I doubt he would have used it. I use that diode as a substitute for the sensitive coheres and detectors that Tesla had in that part of the LC circuit. I can pick up two local stations; Tesla could listen to pulses from Jupiter.

2.) There were radio experimenters at Tesla's time, as well as possibility of crosstalk with no regulations. Perhaps it was distorted radio transmissions he heard.

3.) No antenna flex feedback, but electro-magnetic, yes.

  • Thanks for the reply & posting these videos. I have always thought that Tesla has done more to advance the quality of life for humanity than any individual in history. He is one of my greatest heros, not motivated by greed or money.

Quote:"Money does not represent such a value as men have placed upon it. All my money has been invested into experiments with which I have made new discoveries enabling mankind to have a little easier life."

Truely a great man. We need more like Tesla today.

  • very Interesting Nikola Tesla would be proud

  • The disembodied voices sound cool and I like that Tesla was thinking about an explanation rather than just saying he can hear spirits with it. Is there a simple explanation that we have come up with now?

  • Tesla, Edison, Marconi...all of the early pioneers of radio heard unexplained voices.

There is a simple explanation for the "disembodied voices" heard in this video...the AuPitch and Reverb controls of the Audio Hijack Pro software alters normal radio voices in real time to produce ethereal-sounding talk.

However, that does not mean that spirits aren't real. Perhaps they exist in a parallel world we cannot normally see or hear...See EJ Gold's new book "Parallel Worlds Explored".

  • Awesome, like any of your vids :)

Thanx for sharing! I have to build this thing - I think this "thingy" will give me standing ovations for my big EM Field at home *g*

  • Have you attempted to run one of these near a working Tesla Coil?

  • No, but I have run my magnetic Tesla Turbine beside the spirit radio, with an outstandingly cool audio effect! (video to come...;)

  • So bloody Cool! I have been watching this series of yours on the spirit radio. I have been amazed by the logic and science you used to unravel the mystery. And the science of it; is even more remarkable than the crazy claims made by those ignorant fools, that believe it was the voice of dead people. Outstanding job once again. You my friend, are a stellar example of the use of intelligence, logic and common sense. Keep it up man.

  • Nice :)

  • Great video, but could you send a schematic on how to build it........a modern schematic, that would be really nice......

  • i think they are only for sale

  • You can build this easily with my instructions. (see above comment)

  • The schematic and full build instructions for the Spooky Tesla Spirit Radio are available at my Instructables site (member/mrfixits). Link is in the "more info" box to the right.>>>
