Bruce Bowen...the Bill Laimbeer of the perimeter. Dirty Mother fucker. I can't believe someone never got fed up and just clobbered the fuck out of him like Robert Parish did Laimbeer.
Don't get it twisted. Over the course of his career, there is hardly anyone that was a better defender than Bruce. He was a big part of the Spurs success because. All great teams have under-the-radar guys that play big roles and Bowen was one of those guys. He was dirty, absolutely. His job wasn't to injure players, but his frustrations got the best of him a few times. But let's not get it twisted, he was a great defender regardless if he was dirty. And this is coming from a Spurs hater.
most of these plays were normal no big deal penalties which probably would have not been such a big deal if they werent made by Bowen. He still is a dirty player though. Couple of biggies though like the kick to the face.

Cp3 was on fire that series on offense, defense, and especially his passing that's where he did the most damage. Bruce was already 37 in that series, he wasn't as good as he used to be but he still did as good a job as anyone could. The problem was that they set way too many screens for Bowen to fight through freeing up Cp3, that's the only way Cp3 would score. The same with Nash, the only way Nash could score vs. Bowen was off of screens and pull up J's in transition.
When they picked off Bruce all Cp3 had to do was score against guys like Finley (horrible defender), Oberto who was their center (even worse than Finley) etc. Vaughn/TP also guarded Cp3 quite a bit. The guy Bowen defended the most was Stojakovic, he didn't get a lot of heavy minutes against Cp3.
Ridiculous fade away jumpers, pull up 3's that only Superstars could do or if Bowen got picked off on a screen. Bowen is the greatest perimeter defender of all time, I can't think of another guy that shut down guys year after year consistently as Bowen did, he shut down MVPs, PG's, SG's, SF's, some PF's, Bowen was INSANE. If you watch some of his lockdown defense, you'll see one of the staples of it is running under a player while they come down from their shot in an attempt to purposely injure a player. Bowen places his foot underneath the jumping player and as the player comes down, they land on his foot causing the players ankle to roll.
Think as a coach, you have a great bum player who can play some defense, but who sucks on offense, you just make him hurt the key players and you win games, aint that a smart tactic.

from someone who has a history of ankle problems and rolls them often and have taken every precaution (soles for better arch support, braces, ankle exercises, and better core body exercises) to avoid spraining them, putting your foot under a jump shooter's foot when coming down is about as chicken shit as you can get and I would def why try to hurt Bowen if I saw him do that to a teammate of mine.

i always felt conflicted about bowen. on the one hand, few players showed that much effort hounding the man with the ball. but then, i remember when he stomped amare's foot as he went up to dunk or when he put a foot in a jump-shooter's landing area. or when he kicked chris paul.

I'm a die hard Spurs fan and I know Bruce Bowen is dirty but other players would start shit to. Ray Allen was the reason he got kicked he was dirty and also was saying Bruce Bowen plays "sissy" defense.

from someone who has a history of ankle problems and rolls them often and have taken every precaution (soles for better arch support, braces, ankle exercises, and better core body exercises) to avoid spraining them, putting your foot under a jump shooter's foot when coming down is about as chicken shit as you can get and I would def why try to hurt Bowen if I saw him do that to a teammate of mine.
