Omitting and/or compositing minor characters in books-to-film adaptations isn't unusual at all. We can't have every single detail remain the same, otherwise we would have five-hour films on our hands.

I'm more concerned about the watered-down rating this new new film is getting. I mean, the sectusempra scene alone merits a PG-13 in my opinion. And that scene IS in there, because I've seen it in the trailers.
