  • 70's 4 ever!!

  • I forgot that they had Jefferson D'Arcy in the show!

  • dionne is a dike, isn't she?.... eeeew!

  • @TracyAndersonFoxhunt it doesn't matter if she's a dike, the lady can sing!!

  • Comment removed

  • Larry played one of the hippies in the story arc "Hippies and Yuppies". Hence the look! LOL!

  • is that dionne warwick signing?

  • @preciousjey Yep that's her.

  • mmm vicki looks good

  • Now that I think on it, this instrumental w/o Dionne's vocals still works. This is a good sandwich.

  • torrent on the whole seasons please,

there is torrent on the whole seasons in german in 30 GB,

please do so in english to,

    thank you.

  • Ive never seen this version of the opening credits before, by this time

I had stopped watching the Love Boat.

  • @JSTONE9352 To be honest with you,I hadn't watched this in the last 3 seasons or so.

  • The old crew sure looks bored here

  • @pollard7545 after Lauren Tewes (JULIE) left the series it just wasn't that great anymore. 9 yrs. on the air. jack jones sang it much better. ****

  • I'm a fan of the 80's, but redoing the Love Boat song into 80's style was a fatal mistake.

  • So, where are the Lulz Boat nerds?

  • The drug boat...soon will be making another run...the drug boat...promises something for everyone... ;-P

  • OK First mistake was getting Dionne to sing a song so highly identified with Jack Jones.

  • @RJS3566 agreed but if any other person had to redo it I'm glad they chose Dionne.

  • Dionne Warwick did a great job with this though.

  • MELANIE CHARTOFF!!!! i remember her on "Friday's" - GOD SHE WAS HOT!

  • @ivegotalongdong Parker Lewis Can't Lose

  • Right

  • We need great shows like these back on TV!

  • this was a huge success here in Portugal

  • This theme is OK, but I like The Jack Jones version much better.

  • @Retrotv Yeah, Jack Jones voice is unbeatable.

  • This isn't as good as the original theme.

  • Its Arthur

  • This is so mid-80s, in the best and worst way. The only thing that might have made it more blatant was if they had Jill Whelan wearing a big fur coat.

  • Oh Shit. JEFFERSON was a Photographer on the LOVE BOAT and on HAPPY DAYS.

  • GORDON JUMP! - Famous for WKRP and the Different Strokes Episode.

    oh yeah and MAYTAG.

  • Holy crap it's John (Ponch's partner!)

Lookin like a Vato got into a fight with Colonel Sanders though.

  • Does it get any cheesier than that?

  • whats taking so long for the season to get released on DVD

  • @morgan8757, I think I can help ya on that. Form my understanding they need to find the episodes then tranfure them to DVD, but due to alot of film being old and the condition of the type episodes are lost forever. Another reason all the restictions they got to do to release it on DVD and talk to this company and that company and then after everything is done it comes out. That how I understand it correctly.

  • i miss these kinda shows. its ashame what they show now. a real shame

  • @113Ares It sure is my friend. I hardly even watch TV anymore because of all the crap programs and advertisements.

  • chi è questo cantante di questa sigla (The Love Boat Opening Seanson 9)

  • @Cesarexxx1 Dionne Warwick

  • Dionne Warwick made the intro shitty.

  • whats up with Larry Wilcox's "colonel sanders if he were a crip" outfit

  • What? Larry Wilcox was on this show? from Chips? And Ted McGinley was on this? Mr. Jumping the Shark

  • The Ted McGinley curse ended when he was on Married with Children as he was there for a large part of its run. However, for Love Boat and Happy Days, and perhaps also Dynasty, he was the human shark jump.

  • @forexrobots212 hahahahahaha actually by the time McGinley came on Married With Childrenin season 5, the show had already jumped the shark & became a more animated sitcom with over-the-top storylines.

  • @PopCulture20 Married with Children did run longer with McGinley than with the other guy (whose name I forget). Married With Children was always over the top, though it was after McGinley came that Al started his group "NO MAAM".

  • @forexrobots212 David Garrison who played Marcy's first husband, Steve, was the guy you were thinking of. I thought he was much better than McGinley's role, ''Jefferson'' because Jefferson was too much like the Bundy's & Steve was much more compatible with Marcy since they had a lot in common. But you're right..... MWC was already over the top since season 1, but it wasn't as outrageous like it was when McGinley came on there. He sort of made it goofier which is why his curse never ended lol

  • if you notice, one of the mermaids was none other than teri hatcher!

  • LOL! Officer Jon Baker looks like a cross between a biker and a porn star in that intro credit.

If they had a rotating disc around those guest shots, you'd think it was Happy Days. :)

  • I LOVE THE LOVE BOAT - ESPECIALLY JULIE!!!! :)

  • Wow. Miss Musso from PARKER LEWIS was on. And get of Larry Wilcox(John from CHiPs)! Why is dressed like that?

  • @Baldenlong77 Melanie Chartoff was also the voice of Didi on Rugrats.

  • I love Dionne's version of the song. It does take me back to 1985 where many shows were getting updated makeovers with theme songs and opening credits. Loved it!

  • They make much bigger cruise ships than the Love Boat (1970's/1980's). Look at Oasis of the Seas and Queen Mary 2.

  • Usually, I have a problem with new versions of TV theme songs, but I didn't mind this one......it was the mid 80s though.

  • oh yea Ted Mcginley is has been a curse to a number of good shows- he was at the last seasons of Happy Days, Love Boat and Married with Children

  • @monkeychunks1000 Now that you mention it, he seemed to be a filler-in or a replacement actor.

  • Yeah, but to be fair, he was on Married With Children for a long time. Way longer than the guy he replaced.

  • what a great group of guests...

melanie chartoff: the principal from parker lewis can't lose

gordon jump: gm of wkrp and the grandfather on growing pains.

    larry wilcox: "chips"

never heard this updated version of the theme, but by 1984 the same theme from 1976 just sounded out of place...

  • Amazing!

    xoxo

    The Clarences

  • fantastisch!!

  • It's Ze Love U-Boat!

  • Ted McGinley! what a guy! The kiss of death for any tv show!

  • I was gonna say the King of Jumping the Shark.

  • fantastic! someone else is aware of jumping the shark!

  • Whoever doubts Dionne's artistic ability has no taste. Yes, it's different from the original, but it's an incredible rendition.

  • I thought it was better than the previous versions.

  • MELANIE CHARTOFF!

  • Look closely at the 2nd "mermaid from the right"- its really Teri Hatcher from "Desperate Housewives".........really!

  • @grease58 yes it was her

  • OMG, Dionne Warwick did ruin the theme song! And why did they keep showing London in the opening credits when there's no way a cruise ship that size would get up the Thames? Oh, give the Love Boat circa 1978-81 any day!

  • @ambermum I wish you people quit criticizing Dionne Warwick for something that YOU CAN'T DO!!!!!!!!

  • I'm not criticising her singing talent, but feel that the original was much better.

  • I thought pat klous was on the love boat

    in the last season

  • Oh my God. What did they do to Larry Wilcox?

  • @Grygazol he became a hippie haha

  • WOW!! They were really reaching for guest stars in the ninth season.

  • Look how small that cruise ship is! By today's standards, would not be very desirable.

  • That was terrible. Dionne Warwick ruined the song. no wonder the show got cancelled after this season!

  • This is the worst Love Boat opening ever. Dionne Warwick ruined the song.

  • You gotta love Ted McGinley. You also gotta love that anything he is in is a death wish for cancellation.

  • i love this opening aswell as the original Jack Jones one! did anyone notice that and Dionne Warwick and Jack Jones also did covers of the song 'Wives and Lovers'??

  • That's my favorite version of the theme song! Dionne Warwick rocks!

  • What language are the roles under the names in?

  • German. Hope this helps!

  • german language

  • Who is singing?-she is great-hits those high notes effortlessly-thanx for this :)

  • it's the fabulous Dionne Warwick :D

  • Wow...I TOTALLY forgot about this particular opening!...Strange...maybe I had stopped watching the show by this season!

  • after julie had left the show in 1985 or so everything went dull. ****

  • McGinley= cancelation

  • I never figured out why Dionne Warwick sang the word "love" twice. When Jack Jones sang the original version, it began, "Love....Exciting and New." When Dionne Warwick performed her cover, she sang, "Love, love exciting and new." It seemed slightly redundant. While Dionne Warwick is usually an excellent singer, I did not care for her version of the "Love Boat" theme. Jones's was superior.

  • larry wilcox looks funny on the show i guess being use to seeing him on chips

  • WTF was he going for with that get-up?

  • Ted McGinley.....AKA Jefferson on Married with Children.

  • You know what happens when Ted McGinley appears on a TV series...

  • The show jumps the shark per say. Then cancellation;)

  • Omg is that Dion Warwick singing this intro?? it sounds so much like her.

  • Indeed it is. According to wikipedia, Dionne Warwick replaced Jack Jones as Your Ship's Crooner in the final season.

  • when tv was fake not reality. The good days of tv.

  • amen to that man...todays Tv can`t hold a comparism with the good old days

  • I remember watching the Love Boat (and Fantasy Island) on a regular basis every Sat. night back in the early-mid 1980s when it still was originally on the air. There was and is something so SOOTHING about the opening theme as well as each and every episode. Entertaining too. Saturday nights are just not the same these days without The Love Boat (and Fantasy Island) airing on its usual channel (ABC) in its usual time slot (Love Boat: 9pm est, Fantasy Island: 10pm est). Its a crying shame, really.

  • I couldn't have said it any better!

  • @classicphile I fully agree.

  • @classicphile don't worry there's geog☺dley's misadventures..

  • i just love watching the love boat alot.

  • in 1:05 is it hong kong??

  • skip stephenson was on "Real People" with Sarah Purcell, Byron (sp?) Allen, etc.

  • I had such a crush on Vicki

  • Yeah,Jill Whelan sure was sweet then and still is!

  • 1:15 there he is.

  • i used to look forward to watching this every week to see what celebrities would be on. Too bad there isn't anything today except "(un)reality" shows. Best thing I like to watch today is Dancing With the Stars.

  • sublime music et video !

  • Good work dione!

  • good old TV times very very nice memories what a nice song, Dione version is as good as the older sinatra like jack jones theme--both very sophisticated old good american enteruainment sounds--todays TV and moviesounds suck completely compared to this laid back songs

  • Except Gordon Jump and Larry Wilcox, I never heard of these "Stars"!

  • I can tell you Melanie Chartoff was from the short-lived show "Fridays" on ABC in 1979, and Carlene Watkins was in the series "The Tortellis", a spinoff from Cheers. James Houghton does not come to my mind that easily.

  • James Houghton was on "Knots Landing" and "The Colbys".

  • Melanie Chartoff was also in "Parker Lewis Can't Lose".

  • He was on the first few seasons of Knots Landing. James Hoghton, that is.

  • He played neighbor Kenny Ward on the show from 1979 to 1983.

  • Cmon, Ted McGinley was on later seasons of both Happy Days and Married with Children

I think he was also in the Revenge of the Nerds movies

  • 'Touche! I'll give you that one!

  • and Grease II; just before a series would end, he was there!

  • Ted McGinley was most certainly NOT in "Grease 2". I think you'll find by actually seeing the movie that the blond fellow you're no doubt thinking of was English.

  • That was actually Maxwell Caulfield, who played Miles Colby in the Dynasty spinoff "The Colbys" and also is still married to Juliet Mills - 20 years his senior!

  • He was Roger Phillips on "Happy Days". When Fonzie and the gang, called it a day. Ted was still under contract to ABC, so they stuck him on the Love Boat as Ace, "your photographer."

  • yep, he was Stan Gable, the leader of the rival Alpha Betas on there. He was in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th installments of the 'Nerds' movies.

  • Julie cracked out by then.

  • Great vid! Dionne sounds awesome singing the theme song, it needed a vamp up to bring it into the 80's! The sound quality is brilliant :)

  • I love this music and the video is great !

  • Was Vicki the cruise director by this point?

  • I miss Dionne Warwick's psychic network

  • Ive adored the love boat theme for decades and this is the first ive heard it sung by a female vocalist, its fab even more fab coming from Dionne Warwick!!! :D

  • Sounds like the theme singer to the James Bond movies of the 70s!!!! Seriously, this sounds good.

  • I don't understand why so many people do not like Dionne Warwick's version of the theme song. I can understand that the original version was better but I believe that Warwick's version best fits the time period. I guess it was a way for the show to update itself because it was the mid-1980s and the original theme started to sound old. Today, the original is grand but consider how they felt about it in the mid-1980s.

  • I actually remember the love boat from when i was younger. I was born in 1983 to give you an idea, and i remember liking Dionne's version better it just seemed more upbeat than the original version.

  • Whoa dude, take a pill. It's an old TV show.

  • Und Die Mermaids!

  • I've been looking forever now, for the Love Boat episode starring Hulk Hogan. Was this the season he was in?

  • Hulk Hogan was in episode #1 in the 1986 season.

  • Americas best times...I love this kind of quality entertainment smart themes :)

  • Dionne Warwick did a pretty good job here very 80s but I like this synthy sound plus her voice EXCELLENT and SOPHISTICATED---it makes me feeling good smiling :)

  • Yeaaah baby, Bernie Kopell can "auf shiffshzart" me any day.

  • McCaineis4me is very rude and perhaps to young to know that Dionne Warwick is a noted singer and icon. I hope that this person will take the time to find out about her before insulting her voice and persona.

  • Fuck you asswipe. Dionne Warwick fucked up this song so bad I just puked again.

  • TED McGINLEY!! HMMMM HE WAS ALWAYZ MY SEXUAL FANTASY !!! AHHHHHHHHH

  • Gay is good, mmkay?

  • I can't imagine anyone singing this song other than jack jones but dionne warwick. what class and style.

  • hate this version

  • Let's all be thankful Dionne Warwick is not singing this theme song in German!

  • I miss Julie! Where is Julie? :-(

  • Here's your answer: After the 7th season, Lauren Tewes was dismissed from her role as Julie McCoy because of substance abuse problems. Her duties on the show were taken over for the remainder of the show.

  • cool.I luv this show. somebody buy me the DVDs!!!!

  • Does anyone have the version with the US crew titles?

  • Melanie Chartoff was in this episode. She would go on to provide the voice of Didi Pickles on "Rugrats".

The cast titles are in German.

  • German intro ;)

  • Love this intro especially the beginning. It's jazzed up but the original is AWESOME. hope all seasons come out on DVD.

  • I always thought that the Blue thing surrrounding the words "Love Boat" Looked liked "Dennis the Menace's Head" when I was a Kid in the 70's.......Look close !

  • The original theme from the earlier seasons was much more beautiful.

  • I always thought it was whitney houston singing the theme song. It was her aunt then. I remember this opening when I was in junior high in 1987

  • Apparently people on here don't know how to use a computer to look things up. The Love Boat aired Sept. 24 1977 and its last episode was on Feb. 27 1987 with it's original pilot movie Sept. 17 1976 with a different cast all together. All in all still a great tv show.

  • i'm going to get all these shows on DVD! I LOVE this show!!! :)!

  • you're a text book fuckwit

  • so why don't you jack off somewhere else asshole!

  • It's sung by Dionne Warwick. Yes, she does a great job with this! She has a lot of famous songs, such as "That's What Friends Are For."

  • God I love this singers voice !!!!

  • I guess I never saw these episodes. So they got rid of Jack Jones singing and the female cruise director? I guess they wanted almost all guys on the show. Did they do all rainbow cruises at this time?

  • they also brought in that guy from 'married with children' as a photographer, but these shows never got bad for me. i luv the show. gotta get them on DVD!

  • My fave show! Weeee!

  • Those guest stars were nobodies...

  • Wrong... James Houghton was starring in the first four seasons of Knots Landing and today he is a writer for f.e. "The Young and the Restless" and "The Bold a
