  • subliminal message 22:21

  • 3:52 --- Bob Taylor's "Mating Call"

  • They used loops from GarageBand in this video...

  • for the price, i would want it to be handmade, a robot cant see inperfections in the wood as a person would, id buy one if it were handmade

  • cool....subliminal messaging at 2:21

  • its personal choice which guitar to chose...I feel as though martins have a lot more time consuming procces suring manufactuaring, as every step in the Martin factory is occupied by a person. On the other hand I feel as though taylors have a much more percise and quicker way to distribute guitar with less margin for error. I dont care...they are both top of the line profesional quality guitars

  • It cost a lot to engineer, design those machines and to maintain it too...quality wise, I think taylor can maintain a better consistency on each model.

  • why are they so expensive if they make it by machines?

  • i think all the haters hating on martin guitars are closed minded. taylors and martins are both top quality guitars. it just depends on which one you like better regarding sound, tone, etc.

  • Totally man. Its all about feeling it.

  • i agree

but just in my opinion i do like taylors better

  • Machining is found in all aspects of life as it produces efficiency in getting product the final touches and to market. The argument shouldn't be machine versus man...the argument should lie in Quality Assurance. If you're a good guitarist you can make either one of them sound good...if you're a crap guitarist you will make any of them sound like sh!t.

  • you guys talking smack are dumb Gibson and Martin do the same shit their guitars are built by machines and assembled by hand do some research idiots and don't go look at on little video DO SOME RESEARCH!!!!!!!

  • Lol at the facts that:

    1: Choosing a Martin over a Taylor.

    2:Taylors are shit.

I bet the guy who said that is tone deaf

  • Tailors are fantastic instruments, but i'd choose a martin over a tailor any-day... both for the fact that by owning a martin i feel like i own somthing natural, the finishes are very subtle and there built very traditionally, that makes me feel good ;) but also they sound supremly woody, perfect for the folk i play, though my friend used to have a tailor (before it broke in a truck) and they are indeed fantastic instruments

  • dude right about fenders, got dg7 and a ce 60 blueridge $600 seperation between them if fender had x bracing and other mod would prefer fender dog martin taylor larrivee all over priced put blueridge against any of their economy guitars your buying a name

  • Machine or no machine, I know at least half of the guitars I see on TV are Taylors, while the other half are made up of the rest. I doubt the artists playing them really care if a lazer ever touches their instrument, They just know what sounds good to them.

  • that's the first time I ever heard someone refeer to a taylor guitar as a shit guitar, I bet you'll find machinery like this in every major luthier factorys, even Martin's

  • I own a lot of guitars and once you get into the high end stuff they are all good. The difference is not how they are made but the design of the guitar and woods used. No major manufacturer builds guitars completely by hand. Everyone uses a lot of machinery. I have never met or known a guitar Luthier who does not make mistakes when doing things by hand (and then hides it). We are people and it happens - often. Computer laser cutters and automated spray booths rarely if ever make mistakes.

  • nice to see taylors are "hand made" ...or not... sticking to martin.

  • dont waste your money on a martin. the necks are shit.

  • Eh, Dont really like martins either, i gota ibanez acoustic i purchased fastt neck big body pplays like a jumbo' taylor its weird really.

  • gibsons are cheaper than these shit guitars!

  • Gibson's used to be good back in the day, but now they're just basically making TONS of high priced nobody except hardcore fans would buy, they're not easily accessible than Taylors. You can get a solid wood American Made Taylor for about 800$ what would a Gibson of the same characteristics cost? about 3K

yeah, like EVERY musician has 3000$ to blow on a guitar

  • ya, and u can tell when u hear it.

  • Taylor seems to be better at parsing words than Bill Clinton.

Even $79 guitars are "hand finished".

Music and guitars, to me, need be like workingmans dead.

Taylor is to guitars, like $5000 Beretta shotguns. A rich prick's gun... whowould crap in their pants while the guy with the $149 Mossberg blows a hole in your guts big as Texas.

So keep your overpriced , overrated snob guitars. Keep 'em shiny and pretty,on the shelf, right next to Taylor's attitude.

  • Funny how you can get so emotional about Taylors, sometimes hate and love are very close... Maybe they are a little overpriced ), like some other well known USA brands (Fender) but they do make nice guitars. (you can find them used at 1/3 of the price) The rest is a question of taste to me.

  • I'm not sure I like this Taylor guy. He seems full of crap.

He says how much the guitars are really hand-made. Then he goes and shows a bunch of machines "with the latest technology" (?)

  • Opdage, I think he said "essencually hand-made", I work for Taylor Guitars my job personally is sanding and fretting the fretboard and basically perfecting any imperfections on the fretboard, so before u comment with this whole " Im not sure I like this Taylor guy" bullshit, take a tour then comment, if i cant take a tour then dont responde with those kind of comments all of taylors emplpoyees are essentually trained professionals including CNC Fadal operators

  • Dude, hate to tell ya, but I can like or not like whoever the fuck I please and for whatever reason I like.

Now I'm SURE I'll never buy a Taylor guitar, thanks to you.

  • well I hate to tell u your a disappointment to guitar enthusiasts and honestly Im glad ur "SURE" your not gonna buy one cosidering taylor makes enough money without your help, Im glad you stuck to your baist opinion and you will never in your life understand the "Taylor" brand and what it takes CHEERS!

  • Taylor seems to be better at parsing words than Bill Clinton.

  • not a problem :P

  • Martin has a staff of 16 people, at least, in quality control. They also let their guitars rest for 10 days after manufacturing to settle in. Quality check is done again after the 10 days. They do not sell second quality guitars. If defects exist, they identify them and send the guitar back for re-work.

  • very informative thanks

  • It's true, just because something is hand made does not mean it is necessarily better. It depends on the machine and the hands doing the work.

  • watch the Martin video, ALL HAND MADE

  • but which is better handmade or machine made?

  • machine- les mistakes I reckon.

  • A few years ago I played a walnut Taylor "Cujo" model at Guitar Center. The Steven King Cujo association was cheesy; but the guitar was amazing. From finger picking, taps, pick & natural harmonics, top thumping, flat picking, driving palm-muted rhythms... anything I did, accidental or intentional, sounded absolutely musical. Played like butter too. I've never been able to milk so many distinct, complex, sweet &warm overtones from a guitar. I still dream about it. Love that walnut!

  • why do we pay so much for work machines do? Fuckin hate america but I'm stuck here till im 18

  • there are people that would absolutely KILL to live here. i think its very ignorant for someone to make a statement like that. you live in a free country man. learn to love that.

  • Wow they don't employes working there. Taylors are kinda high priced maybe cause the manufactoring is so expensive with all those machines. I prefer a Takamine or Martin.

  • I originally had a Taylor guitar a few years, eventually I got rid of it and ended up over the last couple of years getting 2 Martins. After seeing robocop build the Taylors im glad i did, its no wonder taylors sound so god damn precise.

  • Guitars, like anything else, are priced based on what the market will bear. The cost of manufacturing is only one consideration. SOMEBODY is buying them though not I. I have a Gibson and a Martin. I've played a pile of Taylors expecting to be blown away and they are just too "bright" sounding - not warm or inviting.

  • play a t5 before?

  • I don't know, I may have. Do you think they have a warmer tone?

  • "Killer Guitars" = Killer Profits, @ least they could charged less since its 95% Automated, He pulled a good one over the general Public! Isnt that why Henry Ford made the assembly line, and Companies integrated robots to save for the consumer??? Bastardos..

  • This guy is loaded, that's certain.

I always felt there already are much more guitars around than people who can play them. I personally never consider buying a new guitar and always find a good old timer at an amazing price. It takes time but over the last 15 years, without dedicating all of my time to it, I've got myself 4 very good instruments. I can not understand why one feels they ought to be produced like hot cakes!?

  • I don't care how a guitar is made and where. As long as it sounds great. Just wish they can make it more affordable though. If money's not an issue I would get one.

  • taylor are good guitars but faaar way overpriced. What is the point of having industrial automation/economy of scale if you don't pass its benefits to the customer by being competitive /cut guitar cost ? After seing this video, sure I won't even consider buying one Taylor. Overpriced.

  • That buffing Robot looks evil. It's the only machine locked away in it's own room so it doesn't go haywire and start killing people.

  • Fuck. They don't even touch it, till the end. I don't understand how this guitars sound so good when it is only machines making them.

Fender tend to work more on their guitars, but still most of their acoustics suck.

I bet the secret is in how much you are able to pay for hi-tech robots and stuff. Disgusting.

  • Dont u love how he tries to say even though its being made by a machine its still kind of by hand. Although the only time a hand touches it is at the last stage. Such a chump, good guitar but not even close for what you pay

  • they make you pay so much because with manual labor we would be paying 5 times more than with machines cuz they are that awesome

  • Look like the world of guitar is turning into a Brand Name Battle. I could sell a guitar for $1000 if it had the taylor name. the olny natural thing is the music.

  • Taylor guitars are mass produced, overpriced, machine made guitars. Why pay near handmade price for a machine made guitar!! A glued together 3 piece neck, come on! They should cost no more than $800. And yes, I do own one, which I am going to sell.

  • I have more than 25 years' experience buying and selling both current and vintage acoustic guitars. A lot of people here are making very typical arguments on man versus machine - but I think that misses the point.

The biggest issue I have with Taylor is this: If 80% of the instrument is made with 3-axis CNC machines and laser cutters, why is the instrument comparitively more expensive than truly hand-made guitars?

  • Because they are still much better in quality and playability than many hand made guitars?

  • They definitely are not. Have your hearing tested Frances.

  • I think they're overpriced, but the quality is unmatched. Nothing else comes close... Not a fan of the ES's tone, though... Just not for me. I kind of like smoother, processed tone. :D I wonder if I can get an L.R. Baggs Hex with an XLR... That would rock.

  • Nothing else comes close? You need to go to a shop and try a Martin HD28V. You need to do it today.

  • Believe me, man. Over the years I've played every guitar you can think of. For my fingerstyle playing, no other guitar is so focused, clear and playable. I pick up a high-end Martin (or anything else) and I play guitar, but when I play a high-end Taylor, it's so perfectly articulated to my style that everything just works and I play music. I've played some Larivee guitars that are better than Martin for fingerstyle or anything else... Martins don't have a very attractive tone to me.

  • Music wasn't meant to be made via machines =(

  • Mr. Bob Taylor, Thank you for making such an amazing little guitar! I just purchased a new Baby-M and bar-none it is the best 3/4 scale in it's class!!!

  • I just got a Taylor GS Rosewood/Spruce. You guys that insult Taylor because you think all aspects need to be "hand made" are kind of idiots. Do you think your car was hand made? They've been on assembly lines since Henry Ford pioneered that idea. Robots assemble them now. That's why they last forever. Or would you rather have a hung-over union worker putting your car half way together after he smoked some crank?

If you've played a Taylor, you'd know how awesome the neck feels.

  • taylor guitars are great but i think they are getting too comercial, they dont have almost any hand made that can be considered as a piece of art as gibson acoutic or martin.

  • OMG the t5 is the best taylor acoustic/electric EVER!

    <3

  • Taylor guitars rock. I got my first recently. Why have a human make a mistake making your guitar when a machine can be more precise? The machines are used primarily for cutting and shaping the wood with extreme accuracy. Each guitar is still designed by Bob Taylor and put together by humans. Each guitar is inspected and played before it leaves the shop.

  • They look ok to me,never heard of them here in Oz,could you send me one??

  • subliminal messages are put in the video

  • yeah i saw that too... hmmm..

  • He looks like Ed Harris

  • OK, so Bob says these are esentially handmade...I saw nothing but robots cutting and shaping...thanks to the guys that string the finished product. $1200 guitars made by robots...got to love 21st century manufacturing...Cough, Choke.

  • Well if I recall, the last taylor guitar I played sounded amazing, I wish I could afford one. I'm not a taylor fan or anything, seriously. I played one ONCE in GC and thought it sounded WAY WAY better than anything in there made in China costing $500 or less.

  • I don't think it's fair to downplaying the use of Robotics on Bob's guitars. If computers can reproduce the accuracy that hardly any human can match, why not apply it? It is like accounting. Why use pencil and paper to calculate when you have MS Excel to do it for you accurately?

My dad has a 415 Jumbo. It does sound amazing.
