You really do have a beautiful voice. I hope you find a way of continuing with singing and playing. Seriously - I've sung in quartets and such and I can recognize a good voice. You have one.
@enaletheia Thank you SO much! I really apologize for the late response...I didn't realize how long it had been since I checked in on my channel. In my defense, I've been working on recording a CD, which has taken up most of my time. :)
You should open for Roy sometime with this. Really. It is great as always! :) Also like the mentioning of Molly Ivins - gives one strength to keep on - "Satire is traditionally the weapon of the powerless against the powerful."
Hey, thanks! ;) I love the Molly Ivins reference too...in fact, the "bridge" of the song is really my favorite part. Well, that and "Jerome the Jewish Unitarian born-again Wiccan Agnostic." ;)
Joan--I was fortunate enough to take Roy's songwriting workshop this past weekend, which was really great (and encouraging!). I told him I'm gonna find one of his songs to cover on harp soon...just haven't figured out which one yet. :)
Oh, so cool that you got to take a songwriting workshop! He gave one recently near me, but I didn't go because I don't write songs. Big mistake. Turns out only two people went, and I know both of them. It would have been fun just to go and watch. Oh, well.
As far as an RZ song to cover on harp, here are some possibilities that might sound nice:
Yeah, there were only two of us at this one too! :( But I selfishly benefited, with lots of great personal feedback. I brought the only song I've ever written...God, I felt like I was showing a finger painting to Van Gogh or something!
I'd LOVE to do "Thanks for the Support". Not sure if I can pull it off without lever-flipping though. I'm almost tempted to try "Dick Cheney"...:D
Wow! I'm usually annoyed when my Roy Z. Utube subscription sends me a cover instead of the original-- tend to straight up delete 'em. (Sorry, folks, but Roy IS Olde French for King!) But that dulcimer on "Summer of Loving" drew me in. It was so good I faved & followed the prompt to this one, which is an even more amazing demonstration of your beautiful voice! Brava, Molly!
Thank you so much! I totally agree that Roy's originals reign supreme--my covers are just for fun. That said, though, I really appreciate your kind words and I'm glad you enjoy them!
You are very gifted to be able to sing like that and also play those instruments. But what is this bout you threatening to stop making Zimmerman covers. I sure love it. 5 stars.
I know, I know! it's a fantastic little instrument, but I just couldn't master the strumming and singing together on this particular song (as I pointed out earlier, lines like "Jerome the Jewish Unitarian born-again-wiccan-agnostic" are hard enough to sing without horizontally strumming at the same time (uke is a little easier). I'm working on it, though...maybe I'll do another Roy Z cover on the dlcimer! (and then he'll get a cease and desist order...;))
Thank you! I just sang this tonight at a little employee talent show for my work, and what surprised me was how much people actually laughed...I've always thought this one was more poignant than funny, but they were giggling like mad. Good stuff. :)
Molly, thank you for sharing your beautiful singing and playing. I just spent a couple of hours listening to all of Roy's songs (still exulting in the glory of Tuesday's result) and clicked on your videos. Loved 'em! Thanks!
Heh heh...yup, Roy certainly has that effect. You listen to one song, and suddenly find yourself embarking on a three-hour marathon. He's like the Gilligan's Island of satirists. Um, in a good way. *grin*
Tee hee...I love how many people are managing to migrate from my harp stuff to my other stuff. Thanks! I was nervous about this one--it's more or less my first ukulele performance. But Roy writes such brilliant stuff, I couldn't help myself. :)
Thanks! I don't know why strumming horizontally is so much harder than strumming vertically, but it is...especially trying to keep up a constant strum pattern while also trying to sing "I am Jerome the Jewish Unitarian born-again Buddhist Wiccan agnostic." Can't imagine why. *big grin*
You really do have a beautiful voice. I hope you find a way of continuing with singing and playing. Seriously - I've sung in quartets and such and I can recognize a good voice. You have one.

Thank you! I managed to improve my dulcimer playing a bit for "Summer of Loving." ;) Glad you liked it!
There are about six more Roy Z songs I'd like to cover, but I don't want to wear out my welcome. *grin*

You won't wear out your welcome with me! Please, more Roy Z covers! I just watched this video again, and your beautiful performance gave me chills.

As far as an RZ song to cover on harp, here are some possibilities that might sound nice:
You ("Homeland")
What If ("Comic Sutra")
My School Prayer ("What's Left")
No Shoes ("Folk Heroes")
And maybe "Thanks for the Support"

I'm a big uke fan, of course,
and I'm delighted to see you playing it.
But the dulcimer-
PLEASE do a dulcimer post soon.
Something nice and long...
You're the tops!

ps-
I couldn't see the peg head
and the resolution is too poor to see the strings
so I have to ask-
is that a 4-string dulcimer?
shas1814 3 years ago
Hey! that's not fair! Your cover has more views and ratings than mine! And mine has been out for twice as long!
(starts crying...)
