if you are planning to surf start with "Surfer's Guide to Costa Rica", Author Mike Parise, I still use 4th edition, but I know it's been updated. It is all you need. after you review, if you need more info get back to me. Paul and I also highly recommend staying at Witches Rock Surf Camp if you are planning to surf only the NW corner of CR.

mostly sand bottom, but some peaks start breaking overlava rocks
