@MrSmokinhotdude please... their marketing sucked so bad, people now cringe when they think of atari and laugh when they think of sega releasing another system.
@gcastro44 i was actually one of the few who bought sega nintendo and atari and honestly they have better games than these so called xbox and ps3 games u guys clame to be hardcore but i know what games are and donkey kong mario zelda are just that maybe sony and microsoft will one day get creative with there games and make they more like games instead of fuckin movies
got one for christmas!!!! the joysticks are kindof un responsive, but over all its amazing! got all of the expansion modules too in the box! no booklets tho :/
One thing ruined this system: the controllers. They're almost as bad as the Intellivision disc controllers and in some ways worse. Worst part is today, almost 30 years later, finding a system with responsive controllers is even harder, and if you have decent ones you never know when they're going to fail. Pain in the ass and one of the more expensive retro systems on ebay. At least the 2600 has tons of replacement joysticks available dirt cheap (or you can just use a Sega Genesis pad)
The very first videogame I ever remember playing was Lady Bug on the Colecovision thanks to my dad. When I was around 5 years old he introduced me to his Atari, Colecovision and Intellivision WAY before I even got into Nintendo. I will be doing the same thing with my kids one day. When they are old enough they are going to be playing the CLASSIC games first
@jack555233 The interesting thing is that, factoring in inflation, the ColecoVision cost more when it first came out compared to the XBOX 360 when it was first released. It was the best of its time.
I would guess the vents are to allow hot air from the vintage linear regulators etc to escape.. not knowing what something is for doesnt mean its pointless
The reason your controllers aren't sitting flat is they are backwards. The joysticks should be outside. You can even see the little diagram embossed in the base in your clip when you lift controller 2.
"You can't see what you are playing unless you look above it"... Do you usually look at the cartridges when you play a game? Or do you become confused about what you are playing during the time from when you insert the cartridge to when you stop playing? Does my not being impressed by the possibility of putting a numbered card over the already numbered control pad make me high-maintenance or simply a person living in the 21st century?
I just love how Coleco stands for Conn. Leather Co. Just shows you how in the 70s and early 80s everyone and anyone was jumping on the gaming bandwagon
My dad bought a Colecovision when they came out, and he had every single accessory for the system. We used to store it in a cardboard moving box that I labeled back in 1991 when I was five. And I played it all the time. Even after we got a Sega Genesis.
But then one day my mom threw the entire carton in the trash.
The Colecovision's graphics are very impressive. Almost as good as the NES's. I think had it not been for the crash, the Colecovision would've been a major competitor for the NES.
@exposed97 like french people designing things.... Sir you have just earned my respect. I'm not even being a jack ass. I'm seriously going to friend you.

I'm proud to say I just bought a Colecovision with 2 controllers and Expansion Module #1 for $34.00 plus 6% sales tax today (after 15% discount). CCG sells expansion modules for $10, but they cost $20-$30 on eBay and Colecos sell for $70-$90 online so I did pretty good, eh?
@WebVMan I got a colico complete with the expansion module 1 and 44 atari games and 40 colico games with a bunch of accessories for a $100 on CL ill be posting a vid. up about it soon
@Yakky97 You forgot N*Gage as the PSP Phone will totally pwn the N*Gage. You alslo forgot Atari 7800, 3D0, and 32X. Jaguar's awful lineup killed it, not bad timing.
This is the one thing I always wanted so bad but could never have as a kid. Oh well, that's life, you can't get everything you want. When I was 5 my parents told me I could get a videogame system and everyone I knew had an atari 2600 so I got one. One year later coleco came out and I could not get one because I had an atari. I for the next five years regretted getting the atari and wanted a colecovision. I was jealous of any kid who had one (very few did). Colecovision was great.

This review is awesome. Only thing I have to disagree with, it's not ugly. The ColecoVision is probably the coolest looking game system I've ever seen.
Awesome system! Never had one back when it came out. Used to camp out at Target down the street and play theirs until a clear would kick us off. Got one now with an A/V mod and really like it. Games are cheap and very good. Looking into getting a multi-cart for it.
@devuurheer The colecovision is so superior to your rudimentary antics it haas ignored your claims. The colecovision and the atari 2600 have now gone to the bliss of gaming paradise to play pac - man based games and rejoyce at the beauty of the world. Bye!
I found a this system at a antique shop in a box full of old atari and colecovision games and a bunch of controllers along with the expansion module for it all for 30 bucks! He didn't even know he had it down their and it was in rough shape to but i cleaned it up and I was in heaven when i discovered that it worked. Great Review!
Yeah, i'm another 33-er and have many fond memories of playing Colecovision. We lived in Denton and my uncle had one, but he lived in Arlington and I remember begging my mom to go visit my grandmother so we could play the Coleco all day while she did. We had an Atari and later a Nintendo, but we would still beg and beg to go play that monster of a game system. Good times. I still remember going to Sears, Beals, and K-Mart trying to find "Ladybug" for my uncles Christmas present, it was $65!!!!
it might look solid, but my colecovisions would break after a while, had to replace several times, only once was during warranty. bought several refurbished systems before quitting. loved the games though while I had a working system. i still have one of the controllers!
I think I would rather have the colecovision over the atari. The 2600 is a good looker but I do like the colecovison look better. It does look like it belongs hanging upside down in the millenium falcon...and I like that.
this is one of best classic gameconsoles i buy colecovision with two euros cause seller does not know does it work so i get sewen or ten games with it and it works
Wicked review man! I had one of these as a kid! Short story: I sold off my 2600 to buy one combined with my X-mas present that year. My friends all said i was MAD! Then when I got it and we put in Donkey Kong everyone FLIPPED! It was like the Arcade, not at all like Atari! Everyone was blown away with THREE different screens! Atari had 2 pitiful attempts!
That console was such a great advancement. A magic time in gaming. I still wonder at it all. Once all said it was a fad! HA! WRONG!
My friend told me about how his cousin's colecovision melding. Those vents didn't do crap. That thing burst into flames. Nick and his cousin literally ran outside with it and threw snow on it to put the fire out!
I used to have a ColecoVision back in the 80's on my native country(Mexico). I have the Smurfs game and I really remember how impressed I was from the graphics even after laters Genesis years. In the 90's emigrated to Los Angeles and when I came back for my collecoVision someone else disapear my game.
We played this at our dentist's office back in the 80s. I think I broke it when my brother wouldn't let me play. The receptionist had to break up the fight. Memories!!! Now we murder people on PS3. lol
playing atari 2600 as a small child of 5 years of age i really miss those days!

HA! WRONG!

It ripped off Atari 2600!
Hell, it even had an expansion that played Atari games!
You reviewed it yourself!

What do you do for a living? i mean, you have a lot of money for the console itself, and a good game library.

Acually the coleco vision rivalled the 5200, not the 2600.

I still have a complete CV system in the box. It was found on top of someone's trash (along w/ 3 games) in the summer of '98.

Memories!!! Now we murder people on PS3. lol

i loved the Intellivision,it bring's back good memories for the 80's ,i think it was better than Atari and Sega,
and unique with the phone controllers. u just cant compete with Nintendo
i think intellivision was more affordable
because we had all the game's
