To seasidesea: I was at this gig also. But , the reason I'm posting this is because I was also at the Doors ('67 & '68) and Stones in '66. Saw Zepp Aug. '69 (Woodstock W/end, and then loaded into a van to catch the remainder of that show of shows).
My first experience with Convention Hall was Dave Clark Five in '65. Temptations, Dick Clark Caravan of Stars, The Who and so many more.
Convention Hall in the Summers of the '60's was a good place to be.
1 of the finest bands ever. but make keith richards look a nerd is just not correct .
dylan ???? jagger ??? keith lived the rulebook & you call him a "nerdy school kid" give over !!!!! read strummers auto & see what a nerd he really thought keith richards was ? he loved what he had done .
Joe Strummer: "Operation Julie was carried near Wales. They were manufacturating LSD. The only way for the cops to bust them was to put in some hippies of their own, who had to take acid repeatedly to mantain cover. The song is about that, imagining tripping policemen."
the clash are so cool that they're timeless. it's only when you see the crowd that this starts to look like it all happened a long time ago...which of course it did, more's the pity!
Asbury Park is one of the greatest places to see rock and roll acts anywhere. Within one square mile of the Convention center is the Fast Lane and The Stone Pony, legendary live rock venues...those were the days...
what happens to Mick (Jones) here, seems like hes pissed at one of the fans for something. Anyone have any idea? Oh and is this New Jersey concert available on DVD.
Mickey Gallagher. Played regularly with The Clash from '79 onwards. Was a member of Ian Dury & The Blockheads and one of the early incarnations of The Animals (I think....correct me someone if I'm wrong)
RIP Joe Strummer, Mikey Dread.

The origin of this song is funny:
Joe Strummer: "Operation Julie was carried near Wales. They were manufacturating LSD. The only way for the cops to bust them was to put in some hippies of their own, who had to take acid repeatedly to mantain cover. The song is about that, imagining tripping policemen."
