When I first heard this album, the end of this track really grabbed me and left me hungry for more of this synthetic, funky but mournful sound. Then Kuedo's album came out and my wish was granted and then some.
This song is great. I'm loving Oversteps a hell of a lot, actually. I've been listening to them since the Tri Repetae++ days, but quickly after that I discovered their older stuff (Amber, Incunabula). I've run the gamut of their sound - from the nearly-unlistenable to the remarkable - and I can admit that this is one of their best albums. Yes, it might have notions of being accessible, but it isn't like Autechre haven't done anything that might come across as simple or easily-discernable before.
@F3udF1st "some of the music in the background of this reminds me of some of the music in the background of final fantasy 7, making me feel hella nostalgic"
Relax man, I was just saying what I heard. I think the music in FF7 is fantastic, so it isn't an insult. Clearly, being the mature music connoisseur you are, you can't fathom actually enjoying game music, because you set aside childish things when you sit down with your NAIM amp and B&W speakers and masturbate furiously.
@Funkingout I'm just kidding, :) haven't played it (and I do indeed dig game music!), though the only contact with the FF-series has been idiotic fanboys and atrocious storylines. There are some good games though, and again, I haven't played ANY of them! So don't listen to me ;)
Now if you'll excuse me, I have some Mocha Gloss wood I need to jizz on.
Seriously? Most people commenting sound like they've never heard of Autechre before. This song is amazing but they have other fucking astounding songs too. And to say this is easily their best is obviously a cue that you haven't heard much of their other albums. Autechre are legends and each work is brilliant in it's own way. They are masterminds at experimenting and creating music that is unearthly and beautiful, complex and demanding. Not for everyone but once you get it, it's amazing.
They always do what they can to protect live sets and play non released amazing stuff at live sets, I've seen them twice and had great nights - but I can't come up justification for it - if you don't do live events often, you don't release it - why protect it to the point that any recordings are done from within the crowd... just seems like an arsey thing to do.
In my top 5 artists though - amazing track, adore viral rival (yeye gescom w/e) and vose in - plenty of others too
i like how they design the complex reverb-effects.. very long tales... same time lfo scratching... slow this.. fast that... they nw even sound as good like the tunes i produce since years..

While this is undoubtedly a great track, 444 is in my opinion their absolute best.

This album bends my mind in an unfathomable amount of directions. I knew AE would return to pulverize my brain. I lost the game- and I love Autechre.

Erm, you all sound like non-Autechre fans.. while this MAYbe the best track yet, I can think of equivalents :)
