Sad. It appears to be a most unfortunate situation for these families. It appears that they would be persecuted either way and sent to prison camps and it is now a matter of whether or not the defector is also persecuted as well. It makes me wonder whether or not the South should've sent them back immediately rather than give them a choice. They have good intentions, but maybe they could've softened the imapact of these people from the hand of the NK government if they did so.

"Detained" in South Korea? South Korea generally welcomes defectors from the North with open arms. I feel sorry for the relatives still in North Korea, but if I had to eat rice, rice, and for a change of pace, grass (and that kim chee grass is SO good; even cows like it), I'd probably do anything I could to get out of there.
