• Linnell looks so young and different. Except for his hands, which are the same hands today.

  • ...John Linnell's hair, it's so...blonde. O_O

  • John Linnell has....blonde hair....O.o I only bleach my hair blonde for purple hair dye.

  • Hey, if the woman wanted to go for the Rocky Horror Picture Show look, at least she could have TRIED a little harder to work on "Dr. Frank N. Furter," and worn a corset, ripped fishnet stockings, and metallic fleck heels. Right now, she looks like Tim Curry trying to dress like Cassandra Petersen as "Elvira: Mistress of the Dark," without exposing cleavage.

  • Hey.... I have this record! Always wondered what they looked like!

  • Oh yeah ...I remember. This was in the days before clubs started to allow "jam bands" to stink up their stages. I loath jam bands. Jam bands, with the front man, armed with a music stand.

    Music stands....that's just not right.

  • Workjobb please post Funnier Than Love! Thanks as I never thought I would see the band again. Didn't Andrews write for the Simpsons? Very talented group of folks.

  • I always thought he was blonde. Never knew he dyed his hair. Cool song though. Wonder what happened to them?

  • Went to NYC, John the keyboard player made it big with They Might Be Giants. Marsha the front woman became a vice president with a big toy company in Calif. The rest; I'd be interested to know...

  • JOHN LINNELL IS BLONDE.

That....kinda caught me off guard xD

  • Yeah. It's kinda scary to see him blonde. Still an awesome dude, though.

  • 1:04...WORSHIP HIM!!! =]

  • 1:01 scares me.

  • @valerie2776

    hahaha, I found it hilarious.

  • WOW, I never thought I'd ever see then again!! THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!! The last time I saw them was around 1980. They opened up for the B-52's at Alunni Hall at Brown University.

The show was great! These were the good old days with bands like THE HI BEAMS, PROBERS, SCHEMERS, RASH OF STABBINGS, ect...

  • Did you realize then that their keyboard player was going to change his hair color and become a genius? :-P

  • I know! Can't believe it!!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this...I never got to see the Mundanes...but have their single Make it the Same.

I was a huge fan of Marsha Armitige Gift Horse (I think that was the name) and Jonathan Gregg's Lonesome Debonaires...this is just priceless!

  • Needs more cowb... uh.. accordion.

  • Thanks for putting this up! This is why YouTube is truly invaluable--where else would you have been able to find this? I've watched this clip like twenty times. I was first interested in it to see the young Linnell but you know what? This song is really good all by itself. It has a Cars-like catchiness to it. In fact they were probably thinking of "Just What I Needed" when they did it!

  • To quote Flansburgh, "New wave will never die!"

  • O _ O that's funnier than Linnell's voice going high in the Ling Grift!

  • that was Flansy :3

  • Long Grift is sung by Flansburgh, silly.

  • She has nice lips. ...I'm just sayin'.

Oh, and that's pretty cool that John Linnell was in the group. Nice find!

  • I'm just glad that Linnell's not a natural blonde. See the roots?

  • Comment removed

  • And that hair cannot be written off as the wind and the natural oils that he has.

  • Wonder what else he lied about! :O

  • I like how the backing vocals are crystal clear, but the lead singer is completely unintelligible.

  • If you like this I'd highly reccomend you go here:

to download a bunch of Mundanes songs.

    Or here http://www.museumofidiots.com/john/mundanes

    for all things Mundanes-related.

  • you sir, have made my day.

  • EhMaHgOd. Linnell's blonde.

But that would mean that Linnell's blonde. eeeee.

  • bLonDE.

  • AHHH BLONDE LINNELL.

  • Wow. The quality is so much better than what people upload from late-1980's videos. I was sure you worked at the station and had access to the Beta masters. Thanks for posting these!

  • So where did this come from?

  • I transferred it from a VHS tape I had recorded from the original broadcast in '81. It was on a show called Boston: Live on Channel 68, out of Boston. They had every local band of the day playing live on this show, which was on daily. There are two other songs by The Mundanes that they aired-"Empty Boulevards" and "Funnier Than Love". I do have the other two videos and will post them soon!

  • @workjobb They were from Providence, RI and I saw them at Brown U. They opened for the B 52S

  • Linnell with blonde hair in 1981! ahhh!!!

  • WHERE DID YOU GET THIS OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

and also, can i mate with you?

  • My wife wouldn't like that, and there's two more clips I haven't posted yet. Stay tuned....
