  • Marvin played drums on "Please Mr. Postman", "Fingertips", "Shop Around" and many others besides that!

  • 7 JULY AT MONTREUX EUROPEAN TOUR 1980 ....... GREATEST MARVIN GAYE

  • Straight Funky....Nuf said!!!

  • *****Excellent!!!*****

  • Marvin Gaye, during his early days with Motown, was a studio musician for different Motown Groups and Sam Cooke. He played the drums, piano, Hammond organ, saxaphone, clarinet, electric and base guitar. He was right up there with Stevie Wonder (and Stevie was just a kid then) when it came to being an excellent vocalist and talented multi-instrumentalist.

  • Who is that monster drummer? Yikes!!!

  • Marvin could play a number of instruments, drums and piano being two of them. A true musician!

  • @kemetkat didnt barry white also play drums as well as his piano and vocals im not sure if he did

  • He's playing Timbales not drums...

    He doing pretty good too!!!!

  • I appreciate the correction.

  • Sheila E. was playing with Marvin during this time. There she is in the band!

  • @kalimaganeshshivan thats not Sheila

  • @PhuckHue2 Are you sure? That certainly looks like her. She wore an afro in her days.

  • @kalimaganeshshivan She wore an afro in her "early" days in music.

  • Marvin can play drums real good. There's a scene in his Belgium documentary where he's playing drums but for some reason that was cut out of the original documentary but he looked like he was grooving! lol

  • on my Stevie Wonder Anthology packet it said that Marvin Gaye used to do the drumming for stevie when he was first starting out, like after the" little stevie wonder" years. I didnt know that and thought that was awesome!. Just shows that true musical talent stretches farther than what the fans are getting, i love the drums!

  • He played on Stevie's first song called "I call it pretty music, but the old people call it the blues"

  • He used to do session drumming at Motown.

  • i would love to see marvin behind the kit, but damnnn his drummer is killin it.

  • he was the best. would have been nice to see him do all the drumming though!
