Marvin Gaye, during his early days with Motown, was a studio musician for different Motown Groups and Sam Cooke. He played the drums, piano, Hammond organ, saxaphone, clarinet, electric and base guitar. He was right up there with Stevie Wonder (and Stevie was just a kid then) when it came to being an excellent vocalist and talented multi-instrumentalist.
Marvin can play drums real good. There's a scene in his Belgium documentary where he's playing drums but for some reason that was cut out of the original documentary but he looked like he was grooving! lol
on my Stevie Wonder Anthology packet it said that Marvin Gaye used to do the drumming for stevie when he was first starting out, like after the" little stevie wonder" years. I didnt know that and thought that was awesome!. Just shows that true musical talent stretches farther than what the fans are getting, i love the drums!
Marvin played drums on "Please Mr. Postman", "Fingertips", "Shop Around" and many others besides that!
