Thanks for posting! I used to throw a tiki lounge club TABOO there in 1995 - 96...sadly what little you saw that is left above was only a stark memory of all its true splendor. After pulling 100s of people every Friday and Saturday for months.. some new guy at the hotel thought it would be great to destroy and remodel 90% of it. Killing off fish that had been in their tanks for decades and removing all the cool tiki stuff. Very sad. Now even sadder to know the remaining 10% is now gone too.
@chichimartini Thanks for the comment. Yeah the entire hotel is a sad reminder of what it once was. Again corporate dummies doing all they can to be another one of the gentrified hotel chains that have no hint of uniqueness or charm
Oh my god I remember that place. My parents used to take me there when we went on weekend trips to San Diego. It will be missed. Its a shame its gone.
Thank you for posting this! Truly beautiful, and ultimately heartbreaking. I won't even comment on the bleak "Islands" Restaurant that we now have, but I'm so glad you were able to capture the mood of the splendor that once was.

it seems that the only surviving record of the hotel's existance is this vt, you made on the foggiest day in San Diego history.
.
There is a nice Tiki room at the Hilton on Park Lane, London W1.
Tahitian not Hawaiian.
