Few people know this but Order 66 wasn't made up during the Clone Wars. The Clones were always intended to kill the Jedi. Part of their training programs were to kill Jedi. That is why Order 66 succeded so well.

@TragedySoldier It was actually one of many orders that were pre determined. For example: (I think) Order 00 was an order for republic forces to retreat to Coruscant (or something along the lines of that. The clones were made to memorize all of these commands. So, in Palpitines plan, which was to eradicate the Jedi, he could just issue this certain order. I think there also might have been an order that said to arrest the Chancellor. :)

@Ryguy3800 That's about right. Order 66 was merely a sub-command to Order 67, which was to arrest Palpatine. Of course, the Jedi were (correctly) deemed too dangerous to be arrested by clone troopers, so Order 66 commanded them to be killed on the spot.

@Ryguy3800 There was no order of that nature because the Clones reported to not the Jedi but the Chancellor. In the Republic system of Order. the Clones saw the Chancellor as higher then the Jedi. That is what made Order 66 so successful. Also if this was like any other military. The orders were probably not all numbered in order. I have a sneaking suspicion Order 66 was only named such because it sounds cool(Like most things in Star Wars.)

This was the most kick ass scene in the movie. The newly annointed Sith lord, Darth Vader marching into the Jedi Temple with his Jedi robe flowing behind him as well as hundreds of Clone troopers ready to slaughter the Jedi to extinction. Sad but incredible.
